I know, right! Just as he started working on the "Soul Train" biopic too. It was going to be "54" for the first syndicated show in America. Thoughts and prays to his family. Total bummer.

2 suicides in 1 week. Since the saying I've heard is "people die in 3's" I'm wondering if there'll be a suicide trifecta.

I always had the feeling that Don Cornelius had an increasing disdain for rap and hip-hop; I think he was expecting the African-American music scene to evolve/extend from Motown.

Don C always struck me as a classy, old-school guy who was become increasingly disenchanted with the music on his show (say from 1989 -on) and having to interview the new artists of the time (especially the early gangsta-rappers).

EDIT: The increasing frequency of violence at the Soul train Awards probably didn't help.
