Idea for additional writing challenge: The Crossover

The basic idea of this would be a writing challenge where two writers would work together on the same story, maybe one writer handling the 1st part of the story with the other acting as co-writer and in the 2nd part of the story, the writer/co-writer roles would be reversed with both parts of the story having the 5 page limit rule (10 pages total) and adhering to all of the regular contest rules where everyone would vote for the story of the writing team they enjoyed the most.

I figure the deadline on this would be about 6 months (or earlier if all the teams finish ahead of schedule).

First off, is this something that you guys would be interested in and if so, would there be other/better ways to do something like this ?

Would you want the teams to be decided at random or let people choose their partners ?

Let me know what you guys think.

    DEADLINE: APRIL 15TH

I would certainly be interested in participating regardless of the formal set up.

Timeline: 6 months seems like an unnecessarily long amount of time. A month should be sufficient, but I might have more free time than others.

Partner Selection: Letting people choose partners would probably be the simplest thing. If someone had two people who wanted to work with them, would they be able to make separate submissions? If pairings are not made by choice, you'd probably need a sign-up period prior to the contest to ensure you'd have an even number. You could use a RNG initially, and perhaps use a round robin system later on (with the winning team gets first choice of partners.)

Responsibility: The way you've phrased it, you've made it sound as though the co-writer is a junior partner or editor. What is the difference between the writer and the co-writer?

Agreed, 6 months is too long but maybe a month is too short for a creative pairing to get their act together.

    6 weeks?

As for the pairing - I'm easy on how this could be done. Although I do think those interested should register that interest first and then we could work on pairing people up.

That said, I really would like to see Jeremy putting one over on Ontopah (sp?)

Another question - Open topic or usual theme approach?

It's a good idea and has potential for a learning exercise... So count me in.

I guess I figured that Writer "A" would handle the first 5 pages of the story with Writer "B" as the co-writer and then from pages 6-10, Writer "B" would take the lead with Writer "A" being the co-author, but that's just one example.

Really, I figure it'd be up to the team how they want to do this; maybe one writer would handle the main story, detailing plot and descriptions and the other writer would handle dialogue & captions or however they want to collaborate together.

I figured on 6 months, just because this challenge would run concurrently with the other writing contests and between those and life in general, I'd like each team to have as much time as needed to make this work.

Again, 6 months was pretty much a ceiling on the timeline; if the teams finish earlier than that, we could at that point, just move onto the voting round.

I was thinking the exact same thing, with Tableau engaging in weird alien sex and then pissing off those jellyfish guys...

I figured that for the first one, each team gets to write about whatever they want, with future topics being chosen by the winning team, like how we do with the regular contests.

LOL Fiendishly perverse and uncomfortably accurate!

I'm in! And because PJ requires more words to post, I'm looking forward to it!
