You should post this in the bulletin board.
Hi, my name is Thanos and I am looking for artists to collaborate on a couple of my projects.
1)The first one is a parody type comedic story. A comic strip with everyday people. I would like to at first create the opening chapter/introduction (about 10 pages or so) and then continue with probably a page every week, or more if you feel like it. Since this is a parody, I would prefer someone with a comedic style, but not too abstract, since the characters are everyday people.
2) The second is a teenage adventure (like Runaways) with supernatural elements. I have plotted the opening chapter (probably 20 - 30 pages), but it is still in a developmental stage. We can work something out around your schedule, like 10 pages a month, or so. The style I'm looking for is anime, with romantic and sensual elements, but not pornographic. Also, the overall story is supernatural, so you should be able to draw those too.
I don't have script samples for you to see, since I'm just now getting into comic-books, but I'm using FinalDraft for my scripts and a general graphic novel script format.
Since both those are new ideas, I am still developing them, so I am open to someone being both co-plotter/artist.
Please PM me if you are interested and we can discuss more specific about each project.
Send me a sample of your art and also specify which project you are interested in.
Thanks a lot,
Thanos...
P.S. This is my first time posting, so cut me some slack if I haven't included some kind of information...
You should post this in the bulletin board.
And youd have a better chance of getting some bites if you contributed to the forum and maybe threw in some writing samples
Not being smarmy, thats just the cold truth
I would, but as I say in the post, I'm just now getting into comic-book writing and I don't have samples resembling the tone of any of the 2 projects. I don't think anyone here is interested in my spec-screenplays, or my novel manuscripts. I have only written a short comic-book story (8 pages), but it was as practice to get learn the shortcuts in FinalDraft. I have entered a couple other short stories in some contests, so I can't post them here (contest rules). What would you suggest I do?
Write a couple self contained story 5 page scripts and maybe a 10 or 15 pager.
Maybe something with superheros and something more dramatic and realistic to appeal to the many genres that appeal to the artists around here. If your a writer of any ability that shouldnt be much of a feat.
Again, im not trying to be cute, its just the truth
Welcome to penciljack, and hope to see you participate in the many things to do around here!
OK, thank you very much for the suggestion.
One question: when you say superhero stories, you mean with established characters, like fan fiction, or original stories?
I don't think it would matter either way, just something for an artist to see what you're capable of writing, there's pros and cons either way,
pros, an established popular charecter will have a lot of appeal for an artist to draw simply becouse they like the charecter, and so they can have something extra for their portfolio,
you could use it to solicit yourself as a writer to the company that owns it
wheras an original charecter will be something you could potentally publish or use for a series or maybe an anthology, providing the artist is agreeable with it
cons,
if it's an established charecter, it's benefit for you, (aside from making nice with artists) is minimal as you can't really publish a charecter you own without facing potental legal action
as an unknown writer, your own original charecters will have limited appeal unless they and the story are damn good.
really hope you have luck finding an artist! the fact that your graciously accepting suggestions and willing to ask questions really speaks well for you.
Then I'd better write a couple with established characters and a couple original.
Where would you suggest I feature them for others to see? I don't know of any website for writers...
Also, in your first post you said I should be involved in community projects. What kind of projects are those and where do I find them?
Sorry if I trouble you with all those questions, but it seems I don't have a clue :-P
Not a problem at all! Glad to help.
Im not terribly familiar with many specifically writer based comic book influenced forums or sites, but besides this fantastic community, there's (in order of my personal favorite)
uggabugga.net
Outcast studios
digitalwebbing.com
Im sure there are others posted ob this site, you might play around with the search box, its tricky to make work, but you may stumble onto something, check the tips and tech section of this forum as well check the writers section for leads too
As for community projects, there is a monthly writers contest here, as well as PUMMEL! a monthly competition for artists. Your best bet is to just wade through the forum as a whole and jump in on the discussion. Check out the artwork and comment on it, bear in mind that this is primarily a forum for artists wanting to improve, so just "ya, looks good man"wont get you much action in the collaborative area. Thoughtful critisism and constructive comments will.
Itd be nice if you could just post an ad and artists would swarm you but sadly its really quite the opposite the artists are the ones whos ads get swarmed, and unless your mark miller or robert kirkman, an ad offering no pay up front will not get any hits.
But there is hope!
Take time to develop some contacts and rep around here and your chances of finding an artist will improve this is one of the most civil and amiable forums around, and unless your just a complete tool, youll do fine
Wish there was a quicker way for you, but its a long proccess. Lots of unbelieveably talented people spend years trying to break into comics, takes time and effort
Hope that makes sense, lol ive been up thirty hours and am on a lot of redbull
If you want to discuss realtime ill be in http://chat.deviantart.com/chat/theunofficialpjchat off and on for the next four or five hours. Stick around and ill be there eventually
You're kind of already in one, or at least a forum for comic writers. Go into the writing section, just a step back, and look for the monthly writing challenge. It's open to all. The instructions are clear in the post. Writing prose or screenplays is pretty different than writing comics in how you pace things and even in descriptions so it would be good to get some actual comic scripts under your belt before soliciting artists.I don't know of any website for writers..
Welcome aboard!
