I would definitely be interested in participating in an anthology type comic, but paying to include any pages I did would probably leave me out. (The economy has put the kibosh on my extra cash for things like this across these last few years.)

Somebody (who is smarter than me ((just about everyone)) ) ought to figure out an App for mobile phones and have the anthology available in that fashion, and anybody with a cell phone could pay for it. Then everyone could split the payment 8-10-20 (or more) ways and nobody has to pay to participate . I keep seeing those commercials where Stan Lee has some kind of cell phone comic out there. I realize that Penciljack doesn't have the same name recognition as Stan Lee, but it might be worth a try ?

While they do have an audience, in my opinion mobile phones are a horrible format for comics, they just plain aren't big enough. I personally won't even look at the scanslated manga I read on my phone, and that's smaller format than standard comics already.

The Kindle Fire rejuvenated my idea that mobile comics are feasible so I pre-ordered one a few weeks back, though I'm holding final judgement for mine to arrive. While still a bit smaller than US comic format pages, they come in at a more consumer friendly price than the previous android/apple tablets and are sporting Comixology out of the box; it just might be the digital market comics have been waiting for.

Both Marvel and DC have picked horses in the Fire vs Nook battle through marketing deals, which shows that the big boys are banking on them as well. For an affordable way to reach the mass market in color, it's probably a good option if the work measures up to Comixology's submission standards. And if it doesn't, it probably didn't have much of a shot in direct market either.

Found a nice little write up and videos of the nook/fire comics applications at enGadget:

A Comixology submission write up over at Newsarama:

it’s as if he figured that sheer repetition would wear them down, forcing them to submit to his strange, incompetent genius.

I've always liked the idea... but organic democratic type things tend to degenerate into a mess with no money in sight and very little visual appeal. To my way of thinking things like this work far better with a benevolent dictator. One chief and a lot of Indians. Anything else becomes watered down and goes nowhere.

The numbers that Blamito put out there are serious food for thought. If you're going into it as a business venture then it has to be that. Anything less and you are throwing money out the window. Which is fine if you have it to throw.... but my guess is that's not most of us on here.

As for mobile phones... ugghh... Agreed... terrible format for comics. Great hype surrounding them might be able to be twisted into some sales... but even the largest mobile screens (iPhone etc.) are just too small IMHO. Great for gaming on the go... not so great for enjoying comic books. Much prefer a traditional ink/paper format for anthologies. Especially when I consider the size of most European BD comics... far better for enjoying the art and story than the standard American size comic.

Short of anyone with a chunk of change they want to put into a project with a very low (if any) return... I can't see it making any sense. It's a nice idea... sort of like working in a chocolate factory staffed by large breasted hookers... but that also isn't going to happen any time soon.

Out of curiosity... what are your favorite anthologies out there?

Indy or majors is fine. I'm just curious what people are thinking of when they talk of anthologies... (will def. check out the Inkpunks Quarterly!!)... the one I seem to remember picking up back when I actually bought comics was Dark Horse Presents... if I recall it was an interesting mix of unheard of artists and non-traditional styles and stories (eg. the focus wasn't steroidal jocks in tights and capes).

I don't think that's true. You may half ass some of your stuff, but your blog is one of the few that I check on a regular basis. You have a simple, dynamic style that I like. If you would push yourself to finish some sequential pages and tighten up some of your lines then I think you could make a worthwhile contribution.

Nickguy should do the cover to this imaginary anthology that will never see the light of day.
