    Weekly Sketch Group #226

    Weekly Sketch Group #226

Welcome to another weekly installment of the Sketch Group! Manji instituted the weekly sketch group some 226 weeks ago, and I'm filling in for him while he's away. If you would like to join the weekly sketch group, please do! We'd love to see your sketches! If you have any ideas for topics you'd like to see in a future sketch group PM me the details and I will endeavor to include them in a future WSG.

And now, on to our TOPICS du jour:

    1. The Super Skrull: Has all the powers of the Fantastic Four and the face of a Skrull! What's not to love ?

    2. Squadron Supreme: Draw any or all members, and any version, of Marvel's evil knock-off of the Justice League (Hyperion, Dr. Spectrum, Nighthawk, Power Princess, Amphibian, etc...)

    3. Original character or concept:
    by Comrade Hero

    Comrade Hero

    Power and abilities similar to:
    Captain Atom (DC): http://bit.ly/prQKY8
    Juggernaut (Marvel): http://bit.ly/mQSE9U

Aleksandr Alexandrovich Biryukov was born with latent metahuman potential but this did not manifest until he was in his mid-thirties. Aside from being slightly healthier and fitter than most men his age, there was no indication that Aleksandr was anything other than a normal human.

It took massive exposure to lethal cosmic rays and radiation, exposure to the extreme environment of space, re-entry into Earth's atmosphere from Low Earth Orbit, and crash landing in Antarctica, to activate Aleksandr's metahuman potential.

As Comrade Hero, Aleksandr's Powers are derived from his unique metahuman physiology and the unknown cosmic energies surging within him. So far Comrade Hero has demonstrated a degree of imperviousness to harm, regenerative and recuperative abilities, and enhanced physical attributes and sensory abilities.

The massive exposure to cosmic radiation permanently affected Comrade Hero at a cellular and genetic level. He is constantly absorbing and storing energy and radiation that is used to support a variety of powers. The full extent of this potential has yet to be realized and whether Comrade Hero's abilities are completely terrestrial in origin has yet to be answered.

    Four Five Two
    Image References: http://bit.ly/o9UPKA

    Powers and abilities similar to:
    Cassandra Cain (DC): http://bit.ly/rh3r1z
    Laura Kinney (Marvel): http://bit.ly/9DJNIT

Four Five Two is a Fourth Generation Thesan Protégé, the engineered 'daughter' of Comrade Hero and the main antagonist, Operations. Like all of the Thesan Protégés, Four Five Two was tank-bred and accelerated to late adolescence over a period of weeks and days.Four Five Two is one the few Thesan Protégés to survive the Ascension Protocols without permanent physical and psychological damage.

As an Ascended Thesan Protégé, Four Five Two has been enhanced physically and psychologically, and has only just begun to explore the potential she possesses.

The downside to being an Ascended Thesan Protégé is that the 'genetic memories' of Comrade Hero and Operations are more pronounced in Four Five Two, and directly affects her personality much more heavily. As such Four Five Two exhibits traits and behaviors that are one part her own, and two parts those of her biological parents - Comrade Hero and Operations.

Four Five Two exhibits the same resistance to injury, regeneration from harm, and enhanced physical and mental attributes characteristic of all Thesan Protégé’s. Since surviving the Ascension Protocols it is unknown how much further these metahuman abilities will develop and evolve.

    Operations:
    Image References: http://bit.ly/pu37PO

    Powers and abilities similar to:
    Cyborg Superman (DC): http://bit.ly/qJ2nLm
    Sage (Marvel): http://bit.ly/peaRBf

Operations is director of the Thesan Project and 'mother' to the Thesan Protégés, most notably Four Five Two. Operations physical and psychological makeup, including her appearance has been genetically engineered by the Danica Foundation.

Operations has displayed Computer and Technology Manipulation, Mind, Body and Emotion Control (Others) and possesses a monstrous intellect with a photographic, photo-reflexive, and eidetic memory.

Operations can remotely access, manipulate and control technology, machinery, and electronic devices as easily as she can invade, override and dominate the human mind, making her a particularly dangerous opponent.

Operations has demonstrated the ability to remotely 'interface' with and control and operate equipment and devices like surveillance cameras, computer systems, cellular phones, and semi-autonomous defense systems.

Operations has also shown that she can take over the minds and bodies of the Thesan Guards and assume full control over a large number of them at once.

    Anderson:
    Image References: http://bit.ly/obj9aW

    Powers and abilities similar to:
    Deathstroke (DC): http://bit.ly/q40oHr
    Taskmaster (Marvel): http://bit.ly/n9iT7y

Anderson is an employee of the Danica Foundation's Health and Safety division, assigned to the Thesan Project.

Anderson fulfills the role of executive assistant to Operations and acts as her personal attaché, confidante, and bodyguard. Anderson has a diverse skills set that combines scientific, legal and business expertise with extensive military and intelligence experience.

Anderson has shown that he can hold his own against a variety of opponents, including the genetically engineered Thesan Guards and Protégés with apparent ease - matching the physical abilities of the genetic constructs with apparent ease.

Anderson utilizes a variety of firearms and melee, ranged and improvised weapons to take down opponents with a lethal degree of proficiency and expediency. Anderson is equally as dangerous an opponent to face unarmed as he is armed.

Anderson moves with surprising speed and agility, and can calculate and react to an opponent’s actions (and reactions) with a degree of timing and accuracy that borders on the preternatural.

Here's the quick pencils for a Super Skrull. Kinda light, but I liked how things were working so I'm gonna ink this one. Very inspiring character reference sheets. I think I'll give some of those a try this week too.

I may not be able to participate this week as I'm still buried alive in commissions, but I just wanted to cheer everybody on! Nice choices this week, Sean!

@Hyde: Wow! Those both came out great! When I saw Comrade Hero I thought I was looking at BatHill artwork, man (yes--that is meant as a compliment! Love ya, Bat--no, REALLY! lol) I would have to say that you really upped your game with both of these, dude. Bravo! Love that you took extra care to outline Super Skrull's Thing-arm so that it had a more rocky appearance, and I have a special love for you doing the old-school dot outlining on his leg for the Invisible Girl invisibility effect!

@Epic: Nice expression on Super Skrull. He looks like he's having a bad day, and he's therefore about to make sure that someone else in the Marvel Universe is about to have a WORSE day! heh. Nice job!

@g0b1in: What else can I say, man? Your skills are shining here! Nice lighting and a very cool pose. And it's not symmetrical!!! Love it!

@scmarooney: You continue to get better with the figures, dude. I think the WSG has been extremely helpful to you. Each week you bust ass to do all the entries, and each week your drawing becomes more and more impressive. Your work ethic and determination to get better is elevating your work, and you're inspiring others with your growing skills and enthusiasm towards drawing. I can count on one hand the number of PJers I've seen improve as dramatically as you have. I can't pay you a higher compliment than that.

Oh yeah...your drawings are nice too! Nice Kirby Krackle on Comrade!

Hope I find some time to contribute, but if I don't, here's an iscribble doodle I did using a mouse and iscribble.net's limited program. Catch you guys later.

@hyde: Cool Comrade Hero! That Super Skrull is super-awesome looking with those inks, nice job!
@Loston: Thanks, man! And that is a great looking Skrull you did there, I like it a lot!

And here's another one of Comrade Hero. (BTW those character model-sheets CHero provided in the links are pretty cool!):
