Howdy everyone! It's the start of another new week and boy is it getting hot outside already! Well the start of a new week means a new sketch group and that means a new original character or concept as written by some of the great writers here on Penciljack! If you would like to have one of YOUR original characters appear on a weekly sketch group please PM me the details and i will include it in the order in which it's received!

And now here's a good one, Barry Hutchinson's The Beef Chief!
After being trampled by a herd of radioactive cows, farmer Hector Young became THE BEEF CHIEF, and turned his back on farming in favour of conquering the world.

Possessing mental command over cattle and beef-based food products, The Beef Chief rides everywhere on the back of an enormous bull named Russell. He has the strength of a whole herd of cattle, and wields a mighty beef truncheon in the name of evil.

And now here is this week's entry by Fimarch:

In early 19th century America, the loyal bond between three brave swordsmen is all that stands between a burgeoning young country and that long dark night. One part bodyguard, one part spy, one part Marine they must battle the storm of thieves, spies, and traitors to show that they and their country can remain - Indivisible!
All three characters wear a uniform of a dark blue frocked watch cloak and navy blue tri-corner hat. All also bear a small golden coiled rattlesnake pin, as a mark of their time as US Marines. Above that is pinned a copper US Marshal’s badge. They each bear a brace of 1805 Harper’s Ferry flintlock pistols, in addition to their sword.
SAMUEL STRONG, “THE LIEUTENANT”; SAMUEL has blond hair that is very wavy and flairs dashingly in the front. He is a born leader with a strong chin and proud green eyes. His posture is always excellent and suggests his nature which is forthright. SAMUEL believes in doing what is right and good. On his hat is a yellow cockade (a symbol of his officer status). He bears the original Mameluke Sword of Prince Hamet (viceroy of the Ottoman Empire) given as a gift of honor of the day an American flag was raised in victory at Tripoli.
JAMES DRAKE, “THE FIFER” ;. JAMES is dashing and handsome with a lithe build. His long queued red hair is kept tied neatly with a black ribbon. He is prone to lacy cravats and expensive silk garments. JAMES is a romantic of the first order, and prone to getting into troublesome romances. JAMES is a talented musician, particularly with the Fife, and can usually be found with a Fife, pipes, or other instrument at any given time. He is an affirmed believer in liberty and the rights of the common man. JAMES fights with a French foil , however he is the least skilled fighter of the three, and often finds himself in trouble.
THOMAS BLACK FOX, “THE KNAVE”; His black hair and dark eyes compliment this dark nature, and his hair is unkempt. He is often sporting a five o’clock shadow and bears a sword scar on his left cheek. There is a bit of a dangerous feel about THOMAS. THOMAS usually goes only by his first name or uses the name THOMAS FOX, but he is the son of Cherokee Chief Black Fox and a white woman (Lily Thorpe). He seldom wears things that encroach on his neck, and is often wearing a dark pair of leather moccasin boots. Thomas is quiet, pensive and brooding with a dark and bloody nature. He is concerned with justice more than law, never asks permission, and believes the ends justify the means. THOMAS fights with a Colichemarde blade, but is also known to carry a steel tomahawk that he is quite skilled at throwing.

Here is this week's written sketch by Ermol:


Brute is a 9+ feet tall massive heavy man-like creature. Dark brown skin, red tattoos on his face surrounding his one eye (as in the species only has one eye not that he lost one). He's wearing a horned helmet, has fairly long black hair tied behind his head. He's wearing a piece of chainmail covering his chest and torso over a brown short-sleeve tunic. He has some dulled metal plates covering his thighs, and short black pants. He's barefeet. His feet are freakin' huge. He's holding an unnecessarily massive triple-headed axe.

Elf is a about 7 feet tall, very thin, white-furred creature. The fur is quite thin, but it's there, less in the face and palms but he is a "furry creature". Like I said, he's practically snow-white. He has slits where a nose should be. He's wearing a belt and straps holding up his weapons but no actual clothes. (Maybe some thing covering the crotch area because everyone else is wearing clothes, though I reckon the fur is enough). He is holding a long slim sword in his hand. Behind his back he has a bow and arrows, and in his belt there are some small pouches and a pair of sheathed daggers.

Human is only about 6 feet tall, 30something, average build, short red hair. There is a long scar running alongside his one cheek, and a crescent tattoo on another. He is wearing a kind of a magician's outfit. There's brown hooded cloak with some ornate arcane coloured designs, like patterns and stuff, full length but not too big so we can see what's underneath. He is wearing white tunic and black trousers and black leather boots. In one hand he is holding a short but broad sword, in another a short staff with some sort of glowing gem at the end. Depending how much detail you're going in for, you can throw in some necklaces and rings under the assumption they are magical artefacts.

The three are standing back to back fighting against a group of enemies, even though they hate each other's guts. They are all angry as hell, and want to take it out on the enemies. The enemies in this case are a bunch of dog-like creatures, picture the biggest dog you've ever seen and draw that only evil, i.e. red glowing eyes, teeth in the style of Rob Liefeld and two heads. Their fur is black with black smoky wispy cloud surrounding it on all sides. The setting is broken medieval city, stone pavement, some houses in ruins.

I'm not exactly reinventing the wheel here, but I reckon I'm just pushing the wagon a bit back on the path.
P.S. Enemies and setting is optional, the goal here are the heroes themselves. But I thought I'd provide some background.

Here's Shaun's Sovereign:
Ben Bronsky is a man’s man. Thawed out from the 1950’s, Ben is the superhero known as the Sovereign and he’s blessed with the ability of flight, super strength and stamina. Ben has a steak for breakfast and whiskey for lunch. He would glady lay his cape over a puddle for a lady, then ask why she isn’t in the kitchen. He’s in the wrong era but he’s Marlowe City last hope.
He wears a dark blue suit with knee-high brown leather boots, elbow-high brown leather gauntlets and a brown leather chest padding. Emblazoned over his chest is a retro futritistic S with a star in the upper semi-circle. He has a flowing brown cape and wears a brown leather half mask, which should appear a little padded like an old football helmet. He fights with a 5 foot boa staff. He should have body proportions similar to Superman.

And now, here is Favorite-N's Cala Escort of the Dulcet:

The lands of Terran are lush and rich in culture and resources and presiding over the land are the mythical creatures known as the Golla. Once feared the world over the Golla have mended their image and now protect the land of Terran from those that would corrupt it or taint it. The Golla have separated into five caste groups that help delegate responsibilities throughout the kingdom. Cala is an Escort of the Dulcet Caste which primary function is ambassador to the other kingdoms that inhabit Terran but aren't under Golla protection.

Cala is reaching her 20th birthday, has an exquisitely appealing figure, but it his hidden behind a heavy cloak that drapes over her unique clothing. The Golla are a race of beings that are deathly allergic to sun and so wear a full body suit at all times. The suit is dark black like fresh soil and made up of flexible yet thin plates that cover her whole body, because there are so many plates it almost gives off the impression that she is spiky as they poke out at joints and bends. The chest emblem is that of the Seal of Terran, a circle with a triangle in the center, which also acts as the locking mechanism should she ever want to take off her armor. On top of the armor she wears a heavy cloak and cowl that goes over her head to cover her face. But even that isn't enough as they have a special mask they wear to protect their skin even more. The mask should be very medieval with two thin slits for her eyes. of course she doesn't always wear the mask and when she doesn't she captivates people with her beauty. full lips, dainty nose, perfect skin. Another key feature are her gauntlets she wears. Think of a cross between fingerless gloves that have a circular patch on the palm. This is where a trained Golla feeds...I'll explain later. Back to Cala---

Besides being nimble and fast, she carries three weapons. A curved dagger much like a Kukri; a standard longsword, the blade of which should be half her body size and a small round shield with a triangle in the center much like her emblem. It is the escorts job to protect those she is sworn to accompany on travels to other more dangerous lands. Alright to give some idea of the Golla and their whole eating through their hands thing. Golla steal time from other living creatures and plants. So their hands can be very deadly weapons. Some Golla are able to consume life just from concentrating hard enough but generally their hands have to grip onto someone.

An (as yet) Un-named Superhero Team

The following characters stand together, “assembled”. Looking at them, Lance stands at forefront. Torrent and Say’Vek stand on his either side just slightly behind his shoulders. Directly behind him towers Jai, arms crossed, with forcefield shimmering around his body, grinning widely. Phil is leaning on Jai’s left side, right arm around Jai’s shoulders, Phil’s left hand holding a gun. Behind Torrent stands Grace, her back to the group, looking at us seriously. On the other side of her Crimson hovers about 3 feet above the surface. So it's kind of a triangle, an image that would look good on a cover of the team comic. Char descriptions follow:

LANCE: His weapons of choice are a short broad sword and a just-under-a-foot long staff with a round thingie at the end holding a purple glowing gem. He is pointing the staff at “us”, and the sword in the other hand ready to fight. He is average height, slim but broad shoulders, blonde short hair, blue eyes, just hit 40 or so. He wears a kind of a black pseudo-military uniform: t-shirt, vest with a gun strap and some pouches (only a couple, not 90’s OTT). So it’s kind of an urban fantasy character.

TORRENT: Late twenties, chin-long brown hair, conservative superhero outfit. It is more functional, i.e. we’re talking jacket and trousers rather than pyjamas and underpants. Subdued blue and green colours, a couple of lightning bolts here and there, and I like the DCNU collars )).
He has a crackling static electricity field around him, and in one hand he has a "lightning sphere in it".

SAY’VEK: She is about 7 feet tall, very skinny but quite muscly, with thin white fur covering most of her body. Though she is mostly snow-white we could maybe do some light brown or orange patterns in her fur. She has slits where a nose should be. She isn’t wearing much, essentially some form of clothing to cover her chest and groin/upper leg areas to appear civil. She has bow and arrows strapped behind her back, and she also wears a belt with (now) empty leather sheaths. In her hands she is holding daggers, she is tensed, slightly crouched and snarling ferally.

PHIL: He is thirty-something genius eccentric scientist. Tall, weedy, scruffy short black hair, wears glasses. He is armed with a short, thick, black gun. Also wears a labcoat, anything underneath is not important.

JAI: He is a former soldier in late thirties. Tall and heavy build, very short black hair, Indian ethnicity. Whenever I imagine him, I kinda see Luke Cage sort of clothes, but I don't want that, I want something unique about him. He is surrounded by a forcefield which kind of shimmers blue.

GRACE: She is a bit short, medium-length black hair neatly tied in behind her head, brown eyes, glasses. She wears a stylish business suit, very sexy, a naughty secretary kind of thing.

CRIMSON: She is a “human torch”y kind of character. She can change to and from fire form at will. Here her lower body is made out of fire, but from about mid-chest upwards show the human bit. Tha goes for arms as well, so the hand is aflame, and the shoulder bit isn't. Or maybe one hand is fully aflame and the other one isn't. She has long brown hair, and is in mid-30’s. The top bit that's not on fire is wearing a tight lycra-like costume of dark green and purple tones.

LanceCo Logo: The basic design is a lightly curved “L”, which straddles a golden circle with image of Earth inside the circle. Each of them who have a uniform (apart from Grace) has the insignia on it.

Another week means another new Weekly Sketch Group here on PJ. We're up to #270 now, WOW! For a good while now I have been including original characters and concepts as written up by the good writers here on PJ and it's been a big hit! MARLOWE -

Tall, grey skinned and spindly. His nose is pointy, and his fingernails are slightly too long for a man. He wears a stove pipe hat, blazer, buttoned up shirt and a jacket. He is Jack the Ripper meets Jesse James. His features make him look sly and beneath his calculated demeanour is an edge that could explode at any time. He carries a medium sized worn leather case.

Captain Hieronymus Whizzbang is the master and commander of a privateering airship. He plies his trade mainly as a typical adventurer, doing his best to seek further fame, fortune and thrills.

He is stockily built with rather short reddish brown hair. He typically wears a side buttoning uniform style short tunic (green) and navy trousers with gold piping down the legs tucked into black engineering boots. He wears a heavy utility style belt and has reasonable sized cargo pockets on the legs of his trousers.

He typically wears a set of goggles which are (fashionably) asymmetrical. He occasionally is depicted with an additional pair suspended around his neck. He either wears the goggles in place or pushed up on his head.

He has a bandolier which contains vials of bluish "glow juice" a short-duration performance enhancer which Alan be drunk.

Over everything he wears a crimson great coat which has gold accents. Additionally he typically wears brown leather gauntlets and carries a steampunk style sidearm.

A 13 year old Bantu girl, she is attending a 14th century school for D&D style adventurers. She has twelve fingers, a round face, is 4'8" and wears simple white sarong. As a bard, she uses a long reed-flute (ney); her specialties include illusions and domination.

Late Sunday night always means another new sketch group just went up for those of us who like to draw. Tonight is no different and WSG #273 just went up. With it is another written original character description for those of us so inclined to attempt to illustrate. This week's contribution is from Nectar Ace:

3 characters. 3 very different personalities. The King, The Guardian and the Goat.

The trio are standing under a large tree, oak or maple, you know a huge oxygen tank of a plant. Their proximity to each other is a slightly staggered triangle with the King on point facing the trunk of the tree.
The King is seen head and neck and hair [think either Slaine or Conan] and the only eyecandy on him is a leather thong looping through his pierced ear to end in a little bronze pomegranate. The King has a look of concentration on his face as he is obviously fidgeting with something at the roots of the tree.

The Guardian is standing, apparently nonplussed staring at us at the focal point of the page, behind the King on his left [your right].
She's got an elaborately designed metal girdle from which hang a couple of killing tools -your call - as well as a crossbow strapped to the outside of her left thigh. the girdle acts as belt and pelvis armour. She wears mid-calf length pixie-ticklers done up in bronze armoured leather.
. She's of medium height and heavy build and wickedly sensual- think of harems, steam baths and musk. She has a lot of tribal tattooing on her thighs and shoulders.
Her armour is asymmetric - heavy right shoulder jointed plates leading into super-deadly gauntlet. Her left arm is well rounded -not too much muscle tone apparent, but hefty and has a slight silver shimmer which disappears into the breast plate which has overly stylized titty armour. You don't see her behind, but you can imagine it if you like.
The breast plate ends just below her bosom and a her tummy is also tattooed.
Her body stance is that of the chick you meet in the bar who has an all-fun-and-rumble type attitude but then suddenly freezes over as her hormones kick in after one too many drinks... [I'm not being chauvinistic ladies, its just that I've met the type]
Her Hair is very very very long and black. Reaching to her calves. It protrudes from a small helmet on her head to form a braided hair and metal chain from which hangs a heavy vicious mace.
All her armour is in bronze.

Behind the King's right shoulder, [wider off center than the Guardian] is the Goat.
Not too tall - he IS the center of gravitational cool -perfectly balanced. He is standing facing the Guardian with arms folded but his head is turned towards the focal point.

He has a cape curling up in the slight breeze. He's wearing leather padded full length pants and only has one leg. The boot on his right leg is knee length - black leather -no studs - chain armour over the knee and ankle parts.
His left leg ends just below the knee and he has a paraolympic type running blade in place -but infinitely more deadly. You get the idea that this blade would slice through rock like a blender through ripe bananas.
He has a five o'clock shadow and a goatee. He also has a red goat some where on his attire.
Give him a layered look. He has brown hair -not too long. He wears a white jacket beneath the cape and chain mail beneath that.
he has 2 other blades -one strapped to his back and one on his right thigh.
You are free to do anything with any piercings or tattoos if you wish.
His look says - just another trip to hell... he is laid back smooth and cool.

Their positioning and stance is super important and I'd like for you to focus on
their body language.

Remember the Tree.
