    Marvel/DC Writing Contest #6: "Haven't We Teamed-Up Before ?"

Hey all, this contest is just like last month's except the theme involves writing a 5 page script (or excerpt of one) having an obscure character team-up with a mainstream character or another obscure one; all characters to be part of the same shared universe (Marvel Universe or DCU).

The Rules Specific To This Contest:

    - Ideally, the two characters should be unconnected to each other by previous history/continuity

    - Don't use any of the characters that were used in last month's contest (even peripheral ones)

-In your story entry, try to include a picture (or YouTube clip) and a Wikipedia for the obscure character(s) you're using.

    - The script/excerpt should be something acceptable to show to an actual DC/Marvel editor, so use common sense in regards to graphic, political and religious content.

    - Have fun.

    DEADLINE: Sunday, JULY 17th

July? Wow. Even Greg should have no trouble making that one

Quick question - Is a crossover between Marvel/DC characters acceptable ( I don't actually have an idea on that just yet but wanted to be sure just in case ).

Nope, no Marvel-DC x-overs EVER. Simply because those type of stories are of no value to a writer or artist trying to get work with DC or Marvel.

The basic idea behind these contests, is that ideally, an artist will use one of your stories as a portfolio piece and that might lead to your work being seen indirectly by a Marvel or DC editor, who possibly might become interested in the writer as well as the artist - very much a long shot, but right now it's the only way an editor for the Big 2 is going to get exposed to your work (unless they happen to visit this part of the PJ site, but I have no idea how likely that is).

An artist showing his portfolio work to a Marvel or DC editor, is only going to show work using characters of that respective company (and maybe some personal work); showing a DC editor work with DC characters in it would be a pretty big faux pas on the artist's part.

    Fair enough so....

It might be interesting to tie these competitions in something competitive with the art guys... I'd like to see a "winning" script get the pencil treatment.

Are we to assume that "July" was a typo or am I completey lost in space time thanks to my airline secretly testing FTL engines?

There has been plenty of mention of trying to get the artists to do a competition between the Marvel/DC contest or even the regular WC. but I don't think it has ever stuck or interested anyone enough to want and do it.

I spoke with one of the Art Mods about doing some sort of cross-contest. He had some good ideas, but the whole thing became a lot more complicated than what I wanted to do.

My idea, was to let the artists choose a panel or page from all the writing entries as part of a separate art contest.

I didn't want to limit it to the winning writing entry, because frankly, I don't think there'd be a strong enough turnout of artists for that at this time.

As these contests go forward and build momentum, I think we'll be in a better position for joint writing-art contests.

And it goes without saying that if any artists out there want to set up a contest, I'd be up for it.

I know they were both Avengers, but never at the same time, right?

    Are Beast and Swordsman acceptable?

How about Disney characters, since they own Marvel now?

That way, I can just repost this gem - I did it for the LOLs
