This is going to sound crazy, but the issue isnt *when* the deadline is...it is the fact that there is a deadline and currently it is a HARD deadline. If you cross it, you forfeit. Because it is human nature to procrastinate, we could work with this.

Why not just institute a sliding penalty? In the real world, the penalty for missing a deadline is not always "yer fired." what about penalizing the vote count of a person by (say) 2 to 5 votes per hour late? Depending on how many votes we choose as the penalty that could be reasonably severe, but still allow people to compete. As it is...we dont know how many no shows might just be people saying "Damn...didnt make it in time. Oh well."

That doesn't work at all. If you have someone who's really really good, no matter how many votes they're "docked," they're still possibly going to cremate their opponent.

And when you say "hard" deadline, do you mean hard to make the deadline, or a hard deadline, like set and that's all their is to it. Because there is nothing hard about a month deadline. Most of us wait until a day or so before deadline to even get started, so the deadline is really easy. If you looked up "procrastinator" in the dictionary, under the definition it would say, "See image at right," at which point you would look to the right and see a picture of me.

I don't think there should be any rule other than, barring something literally stopping you from posting, you either make the deadline or you're a no-show. Period. It's not rocket science.

yeah i didnt mean that it was a difficult deadline, just that the penalty is you are out. I dont procrastinte and the deadline is a breeze for me, was just spit ballin to suggest alternatives that might be worth considering since we do seem to have a lot of people who really like to wait too long and then get burned. But I am a big fan of the late and youre out (although I have seen at least 1 instance where a minute or two late is ignored ( which I think is fine.)
