    How PUMMEL is doing...

Just thought that some of you might find this interesting..

Currently we have 61 ranked and "active" fighters.

In January 2010, we had 67. And for the initial weigh-in of PUMMEL, there were 48.

Looking back through the months, it's surprising to see how consistent it actually is. Sure, it ebbs and flows a bit from one class to the next, but overall, it's pretty much the same, high-quality effort that people have been putting in over the years.

    Good job everyone.

Now go and knock someone out!

The success of this is actually why I haven't held a tournament in years, but I decided to make a new one anyway. I hope I don't steal too much "thunder" from Pummel, but at the same time hope people aren't too tied down by Pummel that they aren't willing to participate in my little tourney. That's why I rejoined Pummel to show that I can be done. I hope I don't burn myself.

what tourney? i'll join, because honestly, pummel and other great artist have inspired me to at least sketch things on a daily basis. and with well spent time 10 sketches can turn to 10 drawings easy
My style? You could call it the art of drawing.......without drawing.

Competition is what I love most about this forum and why I began posting. Iron sharpens iron and I’ve honed my skills against some great talents here. PUMMEL gives me a deadline and, whether I win or lose, I do my best to put on a good show. When all motivation leaves me (as it sometimes does) I have this competition to force an effort out of me.

I’ve not posted much on forums. In fact, aside from dA, this is the only one I submit art to. I’ve not yet experienced the wane of forums but am pleased at the level of commitment of PJ’s members in general and in PUMMEL. It was nice to return after my months away and find it still up and running.

Whatever successes I experience artistically, I’ll have much to be grateful for here. Not just to Mr. Bovey for its inception but for the MODs and members who carry it on.

I think PUMMEL is doing rather well.

Glad to hear that PUMMEL is doing well. Thanks for the info, Juggy!

I've been involved with PUMMEL for one year now and agree with g0bl1n that the competition is a great way to improve your skills as an artist. I never would have learned to color digitally if not for joining PUMMEL, and I still feel like I've got a long way to go before I'm doing the sort of work I'll even be partially satisfied with.

Thanks to the genius of David Bovey for coming up with the concept, putting it into action and then passing the ball to others to advance up the field!

It's great that it's still going strong. I'm not quite sure what I expected when the idea of Pummel formed in my head but I'm glad it's still giving a good chunk of people motivation to churn out work on a regular basis. Looking back at my first entry against Dri in the tournament compared to what I'm doing now, I know it's definitely pushed me to improve.

Tournaments are always fun and I would bet that a lot of people would welcome the change of pace. IMO, the most popular segment of pummel was probably the initial tournament that established the initial rankings and champions.

I'd like to thank Juggs, Spidey976, JCImmortal and Blamito for stepping up to the plate and running the show. You guys are doing a great job!

It's always interesting about this time of the month... things are quiet, and it's easy to think that PUMMEL is dead. But without skipping a beat, the 25th rolls around and there's a flurry of activity.

In my observations it's always, ...

25th-2nd... lots of activity and street fights.
3rd-16th... a fair number of street fights, call-outs and weigh-ins.
    17th-24th... silence. lol

    I think it;s because of 2 things:
    A. 17th-25th there is actually noting new to see on the Pummel boards, cause there are no entries and no new art.
    B. Bad time planing, i don't remember who said it here but there is actually no need in 20+ days to finish a pummel piece, but most people just leave it to the last week or so, when the pressure to finish is much higher than at the start of the month and they don't have time to post.

EDIT: ...gotta get back to work on my own entry. :P
