Really awesome street fights going on. Electronicon, I love the finished piece! Lingling, I like your closeup, too.

Wow, really shocked at how the voting is going on this one. Lingling's piece- the eyes, the expression- although not done with photo quality rendering, is probably one of the most living breathing portrayal's of the Thing I remember ever seeing. This looks like a character that could actually exist. Nicely done.

Not that I don't like Lingling's, it has character. But it's more of a sketch compared to what it's going against. There are no real glaring issues with E's and it's much closer to being a finished professional level illustration out of the two pieces. Technically sound. Tells a story. I'm not surprised by the results of the poll so far at all. A finished illustration of that level will beat a sketched headshot pretty soundly every time.

Both did an awesome job, but I like Elec's more. His full body capture and awesome smooth colors really blend well to give us a mellow personal intake on this troubled little guy. Ling's brings out more of the human in Grim, but I need more than a facial although the colors are nicely executed!

I don't get what's going on with Electronicron's piece at all, but it's clearly the better piece so I voted for it.
Money can't buy you happiness, but it will pay for the search.

    My breakdown:

    Lingling's:

PRO- The eyes say it all: "tortured, sad, determined, intense, powerful, etc". Though not drawn with a surgeon's precision, they emote very well to the viewer. In fact, you almost were able to tell just as much of a story as your opponent with a simple glare (assuming that the viewer is familiar with Ben's background story though). Also the distance between the nose and the mouth is just about dead-on for The Thing.
PRO- The choice to place the head off-center is a good one here.
PRO- The soft shadows really lend to the implied "stone-like" surface.

CON- I seems a little underdeveloped. A polished or cleaned-up presentation would have skyrocketed this piece for me.
CON- The Thing doesn't have ears or any remaining form of them, but your depiction seems to have some residual ear mass left. Not a sin, just a little strange looking for the character if we are going for an on-model Thing here.
CON- Though also a pro in some ways, this is still just a dead-on shot of Thing's face with little else to offer the viewer other than a very well done stare. In the way of being dynamic enough to compete with another piece, such a static shot is oftentimes a risky choice.

Overall: This is a strong close up of Thing that definitely is not empty of emotion or intensity, but sharpening finishing-skills will add so much value to your already fantastic piece!!!

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

    Electronicron's:

PRO- Good scene that shows a little of Ben's background (Yancy Street) and personality/interests (the coat, the cigar, the dropped paper about Doom).
PRO- You show him in mid-stride which gives us the feel that he is headed somewhere with a purpose.
PRO- Good that your line weights are heavier at the bottom of his "rocks" to show the light source from above (outdoors). It gives him a 3D quality.

CON- I'm not a fan of how muddy/blurry the colors are. Thats just me.
CON- Is that a shadow or just the street below him? It's not really clear to me so that seems a bit underdeveloped either way. A hard shadow would have looked nice.

Overall: I really like the scene here and your more polished illustration!!!

So the "W" goes to Electronicron for me. Great work from both artists though!
