That's all we get? No pics, no in depth detail? For shame.

Also, what will happen with that studio now that they're closing? How did the artists feel about that, and what were they saying they'll do next?

C'mon man, you can't start a thread talking about how you went to a major studio and took a tour and talked to people, and then cut off your post right there. Double-shame! SHAAAMMMEEE!!!

sorry sorry. I only took one picture.

So when I went alot of people were at the New York Con. So it was kinda half empty. but I did get to speak to Scott Williams who was awesome to. We talked about training your brain to view things in 3d so that no matter how you can the angle of an object you will always be able to draw it correctly and fit properly with its surroundings.

I talked to another guy but I cant remember his name. We talked about how hard it was living in San Diego. One of the only places that still charges close to 500g for an old house built in the 60's newer houses cost even more. So I was giving him advice on how to look for homes in SD to make it more affordable so he could stay.

I spoke with JJ Kirby who was a really deep guy. we spoke about character and idea rights. we talked about creator owned properties as opposed to working for an major company.
for instance ( did you know you only need to change an idea by 30% and it will stand up in a court of law). Talked about networking and man alot of other things but its hard to remember right now. oh and he invited me over to his place to have a Jam session. so its was a pretty cool productive day.

    Jim Lee was not in

but i did get to see alot of Alex Ross artwork and og artwork for various titles.

An editor gave me a free trade of Powergirl

and about the artists state of mind. All the artists seemed to still be working very hard. and they seemed to be in good spirits. Saying anything other than that would be assumptions on my behalf because they were all still working very professionally. They were all talking about plans for what they were going to do after they were released but every artist varied widely.

It was a very productive tour. I really liked it. Im sad its going to close down. its one of the reasons I moved to SD to begin with.

This is very good advice. Combined with a mastery of perspective drawing, there's nothing you can't figure out how to draw.

And now you know why there are very few deeply accurate adaptations of books/comics/etc... because if you change the property by a certain amount, it becomes in effect a "new" property which can be managed separately from the original.

I'm more than a little skeptical on this point. There is no magic number that determines the amount to which a work has been derived. Infringement cases are decided on an individual basis by the presiding judge. This 30% idea may well be a guideline for them, but it's ultimately their opinion that counts -- there's no guarantee that it will "stand up in a court of law" just because you think you've met the threshold.
