He's like any of the creative minds. You either love him ,or hate him.

To his name tho, He helped write one of the most popular 3d animated films of all time.

Created 2 Successful TV series/ IPs, 2 other TV series that have insane cult followings, and conventions devoted to them.

One of the most popular web series on the internet.

O and a hit comic series

And we will see how the Avengers does, but I'm pretty sure it will do fine =P

    Pretty good career imho

His only real big hits are the Buffy universe and Serenity/Firefly. Nerds love him for some reason and so they try to support everything he works on. He's a success in our community but maybe Avengers will finally get him mainstream appeal.

Firefly wasn't a hit hence fox canceling it, and it bombed at the box office. Didn't even make it's budget back.

Both Firefly and Dollhouse have went on to cult status.

And toy Story wasn't a hit??

Most people know who Joss Whedon is if there into TV or Film.

He's never going to be a household name like Lucas or Spielberg even with Avengers.

I bet most people don't even know who directed Iron Man.

Toy Story had like 6 writers.

And the people kind of into films know directors like Tarantino, Scorsese, Zemeckis, Lucas, Rodriguez, Spike Lee, Bay, Cameron, Stone and Spielberg and a few more Im forgetting. Nerds love him but he's still unknown to the rest of the world.

    Thats of course wrong, haha.

Angel and Buffy alone hes known worldwide. There in syndication.

Angel and Buffy will surpass anything he does in his career, they are just that big.

Hes been a name in Film/TV for years for people in that industry, they even gave him a stab at the Aliens franchise.

Hes a well known Sci Fi / Fantasy creator.

This didn't just happen lol, and in some ways his creations are bigger then some of the directors you mentioned.

Only reason I bring up Toy story is Lasseter said he was a big reason that movie turned out so well in one of the behind the scenes books.

Nerds live in other countries too. I know they have buffy in china or wherever else. Im talking about mainstream appeal. If Whedon keeps doing movies like Avengers and bigger, he'll become well known.

Like I said people don't even know who the director of Iron Man is.

Whedon would have to have a highly successful regular movie to be a name like you are talking about. His Pulp Fiction

I also think you grossly underestimate how big Angel and Buffy were in there prime. They were way beyond the comic book, and sci fi world.

They hit one of the biggest demographics , women. It was the True Blood of there day.

I just saw it and ...

    It frakkin blew my mind!!

Yes, there were a couple things that I thought could have been better, but there were at least a half dozen moments where I was physically moved... Either laughing or cheering.

The whole theater was reacting...and that was here in Korea!?!

    This movie definitely impressed me.
