Best option for a tablet pc?

Have any Tablet Pc's reached a level of quality where they're worth buying yet? I'm looking for something that will outdo my current intuos3 + laptop combo.

I know the older tablets were pretty bad as far as precision, latency, and pressure sensitivity were concerned. Have any companies come out with a product that's closed the gap from the standalone Wacom besides Axiotron?

I can't speak from experience because I'm using a 2 1/2 year old crappy Gateway Tablet PC. But I've been considering an HP. I couldn't find any information on HP's tablets, so I asked, and this is what they said:

Thank you for contacting HP Total Care.

I understand from your email description that you are looking for the HP TouchSmart tx2z-1300 CTO Notebook PC information.

I completely understand your concern about the Digitizer pen and assure to provide enough information.

    1. The pen uses technology from a company called "Ntrig"
    2. It is pressure sensitive, however we dont have information on the levels of sensitivity.
    3. No it does not contain battery.
    4. It does not have any buttons which add any kind of functionality.

For more information, Please click on the below weblink:

Ntrig's digitizer has the advantage of multi-touch in addition to pen. That sounds potentially helpful. Ntrig claims a precision of ~0.4 mm, while Wacom claims ~.25mm for Intuos 4 tablets and ~.5mm for Bamboo pen tablets. So they're probably similar in precision to a Bamboo. Not bad.

They don't give information on pressure sensitivity. I'm guessing it's present but not all that impressive... it certainly wouldn't be better than an Intuos 3.

The first thing you got to ask your self... How much money do I have for a realllllly good tablet? If your low budget like I am then your going to have to shop around.

PC tablets are small, they have yet to really make them big because of the cost involved. If your going to spend that much money, save a little more and buy a Wacom Cintique. They are bigger and the most accurate things out on the market.

on the plus side, you could buy it, take a picture of yourself with it, post it on PJ and make everyone instantly envious.

Take a look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMUUDYiKEKA

Most Tablet PCs use Wacom technology at 256 pressure levels and they don't have tilt the N-Trig tech is not supposed to be as good. And I don't know that they don't come in big sizes because of the "cost" more, moreso a) They're a niche market and b) wacom's got a monopoly. If you've got the know-how you can make your own cintiq. I was going to but I needed a laptop anyhow so I just ordered one.

Well, that's the issue. I was going to buy a Cintiq 21UX, but the whole point for me is to have something that's portable. Carrying around a 22 pound display in addition to a laptop isn't really what I'd consider portable, which is why I was hoping for an all in one tablet. Money isn't really an issue.

Yeah, the Modbooks are the nicest thing I was able to find on the market, but I'm apprehensive about jumping platforms when all of my image software is currently on PC.

I think I'm gonna hold off until something new hits the market, maybe the whole iPad business will rekindle the interests of the electronics industry for tablets. Thanks for the responses everyone.

Just got my tablet pens for my PC. I gotta say it's pretty nice. I wouldn't say I like it more than traditional or anything but it works pretty damn well imo. I was a little worried about getting one with a glossy screen but it works fine.
