Hi guys, I thought I'd ask you here.
For everyone living in Southern California, what comic book stores do you recommend? I'm in LA right now near the Beverly Center but we got a car and can drive down to OC or something if it's really worth it.
I want to experience comics in the US before I head back to Montreal.
Thanks!

The Golden Apple is comic Mecca for those of us in L.A. It's on the corner of La Brea and Melrose and has its own parking lot.
I live in the San Fernando Valley and go to Collector's Paradise which is the only other store that comes close to it (I think it surpasses it but not by much).
What you should really check out is Frank & Sons near City of Industry. It is a collector's warehouse that has hard to find items like Transformers, Robotech, Gundam, etc.

...drive down to OC...
Don't call it that.

I second the Frank & Sons suggestion. They also have a lot of movie and sports memorabilia, paintball/airsoft guns, swords, video games, toys, cards games, anime, indy books, you name it. They also occasionally have B/C-list actors and athletes show up for autographs. There's even an amateur wrestling organization that puts on shows regularly across the street if you're into that.
Otherwise The Golden Apple will do.

Hope it ain't too late for my two cents....
I'm a big fan of Hi-De-Ho in Santa Monica on Santa Monica. They have a really wide variety of comics, which I appreciate even if I don't buy them. The layout is more conducive to browsing than finding exactly what you're looking for though....
Meltdown in Hollywood (on sunset I think) is another good stop close by ya. People do seem to love or hate it though.
I'm a big big big fan of House Of Secrets in Burbank on Olive (close to NBC). Every time I have to work in the valley, I get some peace of mind knowing this is close by. A really good trade selection, and just a cool staff. That's pretty important to me, 'cause I REALLY hate browsing while hearing people talk WAY too loudly about comics in a show-offey way *cough* golden apple *cough*.
And a shout out to my local comic shop, Comics Ink in Culver City. All the pros of House of Secrets. Again, great for browsing atmosphere.

Eyedraw: I stumbled across Hi-De-Ho today by pure accident! Good place, a little eclectic, but good service. The adult section surprised me.
Crimson Spider: Hey, at least I ain't calling it THE o.c.. Stupid television.
Thanks for the suggestions guys, it's awesome. LaBrea and Melrose is actually pretty close to my hotel (élan) and we'll be shopping on Melrose Wednesday so I'll look it up.

House of secrets in Burbank is pretty cool. I've seen Bruce Timm in there a couple of times.

Yeah, I managed to go there on Wednesday before leaving. I completely understand what you mean. I've never seen a place like this before in my life! I mean, wow... a *clean* and *orderly* comic book store.
Who woulda thunk?
