Then I decided to add some color... this is where things go bad.. so critiques are most definitely welcomed.

...Ray, Green Halo, and flare. Kinda got the effect I wanted on the blast finally but the execution is piss poor... oh well. I'll probably stick with my pencils with the background for the pummel contest.

It's cool seeing an interpretation of Rom the Spaceknight. He's due for a comeback. As far as your drawing is concerned, I have a couple of comments. Something is askew with Green Lantern's Face. I think it's his pesky domino mask. Maybe we're seeing too much left eye. Those masks are hard to nail down accurately, especially at that angle.
Now about your figures. The composition looks good and posing is dynamic, my biggest hurdle is the sketchy look of the figures mixed with the finished look of the effects. I'm guilty of this myself being a novice digital colorist. Maybe if you hit your drawing with extra contrast before adding the color and effects it may help the separation issue. That or ink your drawing first. Overall, it's a good effort.
