Really amazing stuff, as someone who has aspirations of writing and drawing a childrens book, I can say that I'm very impressed with your work. I love your characters and your art is perfect for a childrens book. How far off are you from finishing your book?

Paladis: erhm, y ou're looking at it :P I'm a visual development artist, but not really a writer....so I basically set up this framework, and take it from there. I do want to dive into storytelling and writing, so it's a nice learning project :) I'm also planning on putting together a little artbook thingie, which'll probably feature some of this stuff aswell:)
Gloomy: thanx, they're my favorites aswel! :)

O :) then it's perfect. I really think you got something there. I'm hoping to be able to both write and draw my story. But this is something i just came up with a few months ago...actually...about 6-8 months ago, man where does the time go. I have a long way to go, someday I'll get there :)

Paladis: My method is to come up with a basic outline of the story first, and then just start sketching, looking for cool compositions and character ideas. It also helps to pick a story you like, and incorperate elements from that aswell. The girl in the picture is a leftover of re-designs I did for Dorothy for the Wizard of Oz (another personal project), and the whole 'venturing into another world'is something I grabbed from Alice in Wonderland. :)
Good luck with your project!
MilkMan: As for layouts and visual developement, check the blog of Hans Bacher, I learned alot from this guys Blog and his book 'DreamWorlds'. He's a key disney visualdevelopement guy, having worked on beauty and th beast, mulan, etc. link : http://one1more2time3.wordpress.com/

Some really amazing stuff here. Love the Hand Critters. Super creative.
I think the first giant would be my favourite. He's got that crafty, wizened look about him.
