So, I've never much cared for the character up till resently. I bought vol. 1 (when he still was being published through Dark Horse) and---I was worng. It was amazing.
Keep in mind, the kind of comics I buy are Deadpool, Invncible, Booster Gold, stuff like that---so Madman is a world away and I honestly didnt think I'd like it. But when I say the first TPB for $3 I said what the hell. And bought it.
The first thing I noticed was the art. Simple but detaild at the same time. Honestly it was somehting I havent seen before and I at first (like the first few pages) thought it was...alright...but as I kept reading I started to really like the art! The writing was funny. I'm not sure if it was unintentinle (by that I mean some of the diologe like 'dig', 'daddie-o', and 'nifty') but I ever supprisingly enjoyed that!
You can really tell the pride Mr. Allred had and put into this book. He wasnt afread to write what he felt would make a good book, and it worked. I'd be lieing if I said it was a constant thirll and action packed but it was still a good superhero book, and it was a superhero book, that didnt press that it was a superhero book.
All and all I think this book was amazing and I'll be getting some more of the TPBs and it makes me wish I had started collecting eairler (since the series is ending soon) and its amazing when you think the character has been around sicne roughly 1994.
If you wanna check out this book I'd say go for it!
