Latino's still looks butch ( :D ) - but the colours and the over all 'look' of the pic are really cool.

Thordad's pose is greatly improved from the sketch he posted - and the flow of the character is far more evident.

Gotta vote Latino.

haha, yeah I know. I erased some of the hatching lines from her face as you told me but I couldn't lay off the idea of her looking badass and tough. sorry

Latino's is well done , maybe a little to much detail around the eyes, gives her a drugged out look. But the colors are well done and good detail.Thordad's has a bit more action to the pose.

Even though I dislike the interpretation, I'm much more inclined to vote for a piece that is more finished.

I would suggest both of you invest in some french curves and/or a flexible curve if you don't have them already.

Hey Latino I just got up . Wanted to tell you nice piece man ..I love the choice of colors ( and do I see a subtlety placed naked breast in the piece ? That got my vote )

Pop , please clarify . Most finished ? as in colored ? ( I for one am simply not comfortable going to color and didnt realize I joined ColorJack Forums )
And why a french curve ? I feel guilty enough using a ruler here and there . ( though I will use a cup or glass to make circles at times ) You saying I aint curvy enough for your liking ;) ?

Anyways your propably right and I should go to color soon and I maybe should use tools that would certain things crisper .

when you don't remove your pencil lines 100% and you don't up the levels on your inks so they're 100% black that causes it to somehow look unfinished.

try something more like this

as far as crisper I acctually find its too crispy your pens look like they're not doing much for your inking technique what exactly are you using?

Gotta go Thordad on this one ... mainly because he did a full body posse and his looks womanly.

Now ... Latino ... take this as it is meant, but the general rule for women in less is more when it comes to lines on their face. Also, right now the hatching makes it look like Electra has a 5 o'clock shadow. That is really influencing the "butch" factor that everyone is talking about.

TK , I did up the levels a bit , but I found if you up them to the level you did they start to make the ink lines muddy in spots is there a way to avoid or correct that part of upping your levels ?

Black one controls the darkest points (mostly the blacks) the gray controls the grays and the white controls the whites.

very easy if theres too much muddyness then that muddyness is probably the grays.

To my eye, in terms of presentation, Latino's piece looks more finished. It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with color, since I've voted for non-colored over colored in the past. Your piece just doesn't look completed, imo. Also, I've seen colored pieces that just look like someone slopped color over a rough sketch, so color does not factor into my voting. How far you take a piece is your prerogative. I'm not an inker, as we've previously discussed, so when I want my work to look finished, I make sure I have the cleaniest, most concise pencil line I can muster. Speaking of which...

Re: french curves. They're great for if you don't have the steadiest of hands when you're drawing a woman's curves. I usually will use a flexible curve on a large piece I'm working on so that my line is perfect. It's something I typically do with commissions, but I've used them here in competition too.

I hear what you are saying POP , I did concede that in my ending statement on my post . My style has had a slight angularness to it and I have to fight it sometimes , please dont think I was taking your crit too badly , I just was looking for clarification of it.
I have fought very much going other than au natural ( I just started inking stuff for example )
I was fighting more myself than your advice . Your advise is not only welcome its greatly appreciated ... Thank you POP ( you might not think so but I really do love your work and respect your opinion )

TK .. I think thats the part of it I was missing the grey levels ... Thank you so much .

Well this is hard for me, I would easily vote for machete if I didnt know this was sposed to be electra, I guess I should be open for different artist interpretation, but Electra is sposed to be sexy. Love the inkwork though, love the pose, love the colors.
Thordad: In a way the better drawing, she looks sexy like we all know her. I often see you just draw sweet poses like this, I dont know how much time you had for the draw off, but I've seen the same qulity of work in your one hours. So why wouldn't you use the extra time to go for that little extra. Add in more characters, let the character interact with some object. Electra sitting ona chair like Sharon Stone in basic Instinct? Pole dancing. Again I don't know how much time you had. Another thing what pop was suggesting is that your lineart is good, but it doesn't pack any drama. Like machete used crosshatching in his favor, he aswell added some dramatic light. You could try to add lightsources and and draw some dramatic shadows (I love doing that :D). Anyway thordad, over and over you proove that you are very capable of drawing characters in pretty much any pose, just try to experiment a bit more in packing punch into your work. You are still growing my friend!
