I hope I'm doing this right. I want to weigh in for the next PUMMEL, which starts in July? I think? Cool. Here's a burly barbarian. :-lml:

I think you should chose another representative picturet hat gives us a larger idea of your capabilities, because its clear that you can draw to a certain extent but its just a sketchy barbarian standing completely still with no expression or anything.

Yeah, I agree with TK. Based on this image, I would suggest we open a new weight division. Featherweight or Flyweight.

Yeah, that's just a sketch and not worth voting on.

I'd kinda prefer that people not be so... I don't know how to say it without being harsh. Dicks?
Just vote on the classes that are available, without being borderline insulting with your comments. Not everyone is going to be of high skill level and I don't want these kinds of comments detouring people from participating.

I wasn't being a dick it was a really rough sketch, I was just being helpfull because I thought the person could draw but didn't showcase it too well.

Why bother competing when you've got nothing to compete with? I don't want to detour people, but at the same time, I would rather work towards making competitions that are actual competitions and not clear-cut KO's. Or worse, competitions made up of art that just isn't that great to look at. If that makes me a dick, then I'll make sure I pull out a condom the next time it's raining.

You're right man, lets cut everyone off at the knees because they're at a certain skill level. That's brilliant. There's no way that if they try and put forth an effort, that they might improve.
The whole point of this site and the general premise of PUMMEL is to encourage improvement. That's why there are weight classes, to give people something to shoot for. Maybe that idea is lost on some people?

Whatever you say, Dave. I merely made a comment based on the first image that was posted here. Seeing what some of the lightweights had done during PUMMEL, I didn't think it stacked up...at all.
Notice to artists in general. If the comments of an anonymous board poster deter you from doing anything in life you want to do, you might as well go jump off a bridge now.

I'm not a dick thanks, Dave, and I think what I said was valid.
The image that was posted was nothing but a sketch. The construction underlying the figure showed that AP Hilliard has more skill than he was presenting with that particular pic.
He has now replaced that little sketch with a more accomplished image - which PROVES that his previous post was not his best work.
So, ........whatever.

Look I know that at first glance his piece screams Lightweight, but if you just take an extra moment you could actually see a sleeper that has Middleweight potential. And I'm not being a smart ass or a Dick either.
Take a close look at the first character in the green. It shows guts that he's willing and able to try new ways of composing a piece for competing. Hell I think he'd give Popninja a run for his money.
And that explains my vote for middleweight for AP. Let's see what the kid's got......

Voted lightweight. Competition brings out the best out of some people so you never know. Good luck. There are lots of really good artists in the lightweight division so you will have to try your best.

There are definitely some lightweights that I personally feel should be middleweights , There are some very excellent people to compete against in all weight classes . And I for one know you learn a lot from these challenges.
I went light weight , but as Doomsmith said I to see potential there.
Good luck AP and welcome to the fray :)

PPl shouldn't get to bent on what Weight class they get put in. There are some ppl in lightweight that would pummel some in middle weights and there are some middle weight that could put the hurt on some of the heavy weight. I think this is just to push you by competing.

I'll enjoy my ascend from the bottom. I'd much rather bring some serious beat down get really cocky and then get struck to the ground.

I agree, and that's not really the issue I have with any of the comments in this thread.
I don't think anybody should be telling anyone that they aren't good enough to be placed into PUMMEL. Which is what I take exception to.

Take exception if you will, but based on the first image that was posted in this thread, I didn't think it fit into any of those weight classes. Sorry if you take issue with it, but that's the way I saw it.
This new image is better than what was posted, but it really just looks like color slapped on a quick sketch to me. That's my opinion. That's not telling anyone "that they aren't good enough to be placed into PUMMEL;" that's not even up to me.
But I understand where you are coming from, and I understand that what I said initially may have coame off a bit dick-ish. So, I apologize to AP Hilliard.

Thanks for all the comments. I can handle criticism, so no worries. I never expected anything other than "lightweight." I was just trying to do things official-like so I could take part. Yeah, my stuff is very amateur and sketchy, but I don't think it's any worse than a lot of the lightweight stuff I've seen so I thought "what the heck?" I'm in it for the fun and challenge. Heck, it gives me a reason to start drawing again after many of years of setting the pencils down. Looking forward to the competition.

AP , its heady but its also a fun ocean your diving into . Im only starting to learn to doggy paddle myself . And you know , there are many here that wont let you drown.
So sharpen those pencils , say your prayers , and BRING THE PAIN !!!!
( a member told me some great words of wisdom " have fun , when drawing becomes a chore ( now mind you he didnt say quit) " Turn it around " )

I'm glad you haven't taken offence, mate. Certainly none was intended.
I, personally, was unwillingly to vote on your first post because it gave me the impression you were not presenting your best work.
I get the feeling from looking at your sketches that you are someone who can draw - but who almost 'chooses' not to get everything perfectly right.

i voted lightweight. the midleweights (myself not included, idk how im even still in that division...wtf?) are really good. i mean, you're talking about guys like Archerion...Jared Lee...asaru...Taro Mochi...Spidey....Popninja...Johnny Blaque(who was my pick to take the middleweight division till he disappeared lol)..GadgetWK...Breck..Deth.. no disrespect to AP, but this pic isnt on the level with what those guys have been posting lately.
