I'm sorry Nickguy, but they're beating up Popeye. POPEYE.

pop, why is he beating up popeye? popeye has done no wrong to no one he's like everybody's grandpa on steroids/spinach. Really like how you did popeye and Robin though sound effect is stellar too.
Strange how the compositions are similar. Guess it makes it
easier to compare.
Nick - cool image and a nice tribute to ASBAR.
Pop- Although not as ASBAR as Nick's, Batman and Popeye pop
off the page. You beat Nick at his own game of energy to sell the work.
Popeye was just the cherry on top.
Well done, gents.

I voted for Pop. Had more energy and better composition. Only thing I didn't really like about it was Batman's huge head.

Im immensely unhappy with my entry. I really had no inspiration for this at all, and i feel what i ended up with was terribly rushed and sloppy. Id love to rematch pop someday when i have better motivation.
that being said, i love the classic vibe you're going for, pop! Although i agree with everyone, why is popeye getting beat up? lol

You have no idea...
I actually redid mine once I saw what Nick had done because they looked too similar.

I'm actually very surprised to hear that considering how much you love what Miller and Lee are doing on ASBAR. Truth be told, I don't think I've seen much of your work that doesn't look rushed and sloppy. Sorry, I've told you this before, so I don't feel that I'm being too harsh. I would love to see what you could do if you would give yourself just an extra couple of hours on any given drawing.
Whenever you want that rematch, though, just let me know. I probably won't do anymore street fights for a while, but if you come calling, I'll take you on again.

yeah, i mean im not unhappy with the asbar vibe, but rather the quickness of the background is what bothers me the most on this. I feel that ever since PUMMEL started ive gotten way better, (i feel that my boxers piece is probably the best thing Ive ever done) but for this one i just couldnt get it going. I had a drawing halfway finished before i threw it away and did this one super fast.
Im going to take a break from Pummel too for the grand championship this month (ive never drawn Green lantern before) so once i do that, ill let you know!

nice stuff both of you.
Oddly I started my batman and robin piece for my Street fight before I saw these. It looks like we were all on the phone when we decided what we were doing because I have them swinging in on ropes left to right exactly like you guys.
Oddly number 2, In my current street fight with Shawny we were supposed to do Inhumans. Any of them any number and we both picked 3 and the same 3 at that........weird. Like when girls live together and they start to cycle at the same time.

some pretty good stuff from nick here. one of the better pieces I have seen in a while.
But had to go to with POP. The piece is just way more dynamic.
My one crit is I would have left popeye's good eye open. It not only would have made the impact look more shocking but it makes it obvious who the character was.
being that his signature cap is cropped and his pipe is no where to be found. with out the spinach crate I had no Idea who it was.

Hmmm ... you know it is interesting you say that because ... and I don't want to sound harsh ... but I have been feeling that you have lost a step since PUMMEL started. Your finshes look cleaner that is true ... but I have ALWAYS felt that your strength is in your gesture ... the energy you put into your pics. I STILL think that your PUMMEL seeding pic is your BEST work to date ... and it is why you are currently a middle weight. Everything I have seen lately is static ... anchored to the panel ... or rushed out... accept your Street Fight with Jared ... but then again IMHO that was an Homage piece where Joe Mad did the heavy lifting for you.
Nick I don't want to sound harsh ... but this was an opportunity to BANG out an in your face Dark Knight ... coming out of the shadows ... right at the camera ... Robin screaming with excitement ... use of positive and negative space piece that would make US all go ... THERE YOU GO ... that is why he is a middle weight. But ... and I am sorry to say ... this just isn't it.
Pop your piece is amazing ... gotta say I do think Bat's head is a little large ... but as always ... I love the fact that you are bringing finished work of this quality ... there is a lot to learn from your rendering.

i would agree with the majority, I think what was lacking in my earlier pieces was finishes...i think ive stepped up my finishes a great deal, but i dont know whether its the topic or what, ive seem to have been massively uninspired when it comes to the topics ive been drawing. im going to take a break from pummel and do this months green lantern...then hopefully come back and kick some ass! :)

He's not beating up popeye. It's Nate B. It's funny how similar both of your compositions came out. I like Pop's a little more. I like the stubble on your Bats, Nick.
