Has anyone else read this short mini-series? i found the art work which is less drawn in " the marvel way " and much more cartoony-steam punk style to be refreshing and unique.
Story itself in all 3 issues is really good and i have no problems with it, although i felt the ending was a bit of a let down and felt rushed or just incomplete.

Thoughts on this? Marvel recently ( within the last year ) published the 3 issues in english since the original is in Italian and was published by a french company in europe

SkyDoll was AMAZING!!! The artwork was sooooo good. I loved it.

Do you mean Skydoll? there is a TPB ( hardcover ) but it's in french and Italian at this point unless someone somewhere has done it in english?

Huh, I'm pretty sure an english version was published... I remember Heavy metal Magazine putting out a summer issue with the 3 volumes published in english.

Marvel put out the english ones last year ( the whole thing ) so you should be able to get it in your comic store

A lot of European comics that I read seem to have huge story gaps and issues.

I think part of it is a cultural issue. American writers are so obsessed with the pièce bien faite that it really stifles literary voice but that is an entirely different argument.

I think the biggest part of the problem is that a lot of the books don't seem to be translated all that well. Translation is not an exact science and it is made even harder by the finite size of speech balloons. Almost every translated comic that I've read has had at least one place where I was fairly sure that there was a huge mistake made because there was a reference to something that made no sense or an awkward nonsequitur.

The only thing I can say is that this gives me even more incentive to master French so I can read French comics in the original and not have to rely on half assed culturally insensitive translations.

The worst translation mistake I ever found was in a fairly acclaimed book translated by someone who should have known better. They had translated parlement as Parliament.

Maybe it's because you didn't describe the context in which it was used, but the French word 'Parlement' is translated to English as 'Parliament'. No mistake there.

It means that in modern French.

The book was referring to the Parlement of Paris in the 16th or 17th Century. There was no need to translate the word, just add "of Paris" to clarify. The Parlement of Paris was more judicial then legislative.
