I am amazed yet again. I like the dynamic imagery and shadows in Undies... and while I am a sucker for good ol' comic action. I have to go with Morg on this one. I love the concept of the gamma transformation.
Both really fine pieces. Underwear's got a well done figure, but Morg's got a real nice concept AND execution.
Gotta go with Morgan Welborn.

Wow you guys! I like them both, love morg's concept but his hulk doesn't quite look like hulk to me in the face. Went with underwear

Morg for me. These are both strong pieces!
Good job Morgan but Underwearhero was genetically engineered to the draw the Hulk.

So much to like about both of these. I really like Morg's colors and concept, but I preferred Underwearhero's Hulk - I just thought it looked more like the character. With that in mind I had to vote for Underwearhero.
Best colors I've seen from Morgan though - that entry is no slouch.

Dang, this is too bad, because they are both great. I love Morgan's idea and effort, however, underwear's is just awesome. Great job.

I like Underwearheros Hulk the best, but Morg's composition and overall idea are superior.......the atomic blast won me over in the end! Nice job guys!

Both fantastic pieces. Conceptually, I give it to Morg, and while his execution was also terrific, I gotta give UnderwearHero my vote. His piece visually is more impressive.

Why is this your last Pummel piece Morgan?

UH's Hulk is more in-your-face, but it has some wackiness in the foreshortening and anatomy (great hand though). I went with Morg's in the end. A very close call.

It stopped being fun weeks ago, I'd rather put all my energy into practicing and becoming a better artist, also my ego doesn't need to be any more deflated.

Figured there would be attrition for various reasons. As people leave, there seems to be people wanting to get in on it. But it's not for everyone. This whole thing is done with the thought that it will motivate people to improve, but it's also supposed to be fun.
Sorry it wasn't fun for you Morg.
I'll use my vote with that in mind.

Voted for Morgan. Better composition, better lighting, the colors are awesome, and I like his Hulk better (although he's a little slim). Underwear has that in your face action shot going and the proper bulkiness to the Hulk, but I couldn't get past the really haphazard hatching. Also, I don't like the Alfred E. Newman/George Burns/chimpanzee amalgamation going on with his face and head.
Also, as far as competition goes, it's definitely a blow when you lose. But, once you swallow your pride, I think doing draw-offs ends up being very beneficial in the end. You have a deadline, you don't always get to choose the subject matter, and you get to see the reaction of the public and see what they do/don't like about your work and compare it to their reaction of another artist tackling the same subject. There are growing pains to be sure, but in the end it's a learning process and it helps you evolve in ways you couldn't on your own.

I know all about the benefits of drawoffs, I've been doing them since 2002, I've lost more drawoffs than anyone here.
And I don't really care for the public consensus of artistic ability, I know my art isn't up to par thats way I need to concentrate on it more.

You've won more than most as well. I think you're being too hard on yourself. A lot of guys around here wish they had half the skill you have.

Morg, come on man! I'm not buying your pity party, you have to accept the good critiques with the bad and suck it up. Your art rocks, dude. If you make a committment to something you have to stick it out. Hang in here, bro.

I don't even know where you are coming from, if you think I am seeking your pity then you are wrong, I am more critical of my work than anyone here, so critiques are not an issue to me.
I don't need a drawoff to gauge my ability against other artists, I've learned a lot in the past couple of years, I know where I stand and where I need to be.
The main reason I like drawoff's was the fun factor, and somewhere in the last few weeks it has stopped being fun, so there is no point in continuing.

I've felt the same way for a little bit, it doesn't help that I've been busy every day drawing other stuff in between my entries. But I think once this initial starting period gets settled, maybe it'll get more fun and less chaotic.
And I don't think you should give up so easily, this is one of your best illos so far, you might not have won in votes, but I think you've stepped up tremendously with this picture.

Yeah, draw offs for me are just fun to see what other people come up with. That's the part I enjoy the most. And I think everyone has stepped up their game for this. So I'm pleased overall with the way this has turned out.
If I lose to someone, It wouldn't really mess with my morale, because I know there's a ton of great artists here at Penciljack.

Hey man... I have a 100% losing streak here ever since I registered in 2000 and you don't see ME quitting anytime soon. ;P
But seriously, if you don't think it's fun... no one's forcing you to. However, it does give you some kind of deadline and accountability to finish something. I got two of my buds irl to join up the PUMMEL thing because they weren't being nearly as productive as they could be without any supervision. At the same time, if you are pretty good about being self motivated to do stuff on your own, it's cool.
Final point... if you're gonna do anything artistic as a main source of income, there are gonna be a decent amount times in your art employment where you'll do stuff that's not fun. That's when creativity kicks in, and you make your topic fun to you. Even though at the moment PUMMEL isn't "fun," this is your chance to work through a motivation block. Good practice for real work doldrums.
Probably all stuff you know already, but I wanted to bring it out to the forefront for you to keep in mind.
