Ever since that "talk to some fish" sketch on tv. I never liked Aquaman very much to be sure, but I'll take him over the flat-headed, wife stealin', assholio jerkturd Namor any day. The JUSTICE LEAGUE animated show version of Aquaman was also pretty cool. Sort of the Conan of the sea.

I gotta say, Buscema did make that character a lot cooler just by drawing him. I was never partial to the little wings under his arms that came along with that black Namor costume though, but it did look pretty cool on the Bowen statue that came out a few years ago, based on the Buscema Namor:

I guess they just scream '70s costume to me. With Namor's shirt open like that, the fins just sort of convey Elvis to me, I guess. Hey--maybe he really is "the King"! Man. Now I wish Namor had some big honkin' sideburns. Hehe.

I admit it. I'm doing my best to make this into a fun discussion and vote, because we all know that Namor's going to run away with any sort of vote. Aquaman's a favorite whipping boy for fandom, so I'm gonna stick up for him. They chop off his hand, Superman denies him water in the desert, and his best friends are fish, but dammit, I'm going to give him some props. He's a character that shouldn't even exist in these cynical times, but he just keeps on keeping on.

I'm not going to talk about him riding sea horses 'n' dolphins though. Heh.

On one of the Super Friends assignments I was asked to draw Aquaman riding "horseback style" on the back of a whale. So...how does one do that, considering the width of most whales? He'd have to be doing the splits like Jean-Claude Van Damme, right? :D I got them to make it a Killer whale instead though, but I can tell you that there's nothing goofier to draw than a guy riding on a big fish....

Yeah I never was a fan of those wings either. But I like Namor. I also much prefer the bearded and gauntleted prick-of-a-Aquaman in 2000's JLA title over the clean-cut, no-bearded and regal one.

But it's obvious Namor's attitude and elitist demeanor rubbed off Aquaman in publication history.

I'll go with good old Arthur Curry any day of the week, Namor is way to moody for me, sure Aquaman had his moody period but the fact that he can convey many emotions and not just "I hate all and am superior to all" makes him such a better character.
