29 sequential pages and one pin-up. So about half the book.

Straight from the horse's mouth:

Okay, it seems the cat is finally out of the bag and I can talk about this. I started working on this book over 6 years ago, the original idea was for me to do the pages in pen and ink and have them colored. I got it in my head that although I wasn't a painter and hadn't ever painted a comic, I would paint this one. Big mistake, a distaster. It took forever to get a page finished, I was redoing pages, changing the paints, a nightmare, by the time I'd left Paris and moved back to the USA I only had a dozen pages to show for nearly 2 years work. Since coming back, the pages haven't really come any faster, and after all this time, I've only produced 30 pages of Dreamshifters. It wasn't a case of screwing the pooch or anything like that, I've always worked hard, I just had a laborious process and a dismal understanding of how to really paint. I haven't had any new script for a year or so and I figured something like this was happening but I found out like you did, someone mentioned the article to me and I asked my editors about it. I can't blame them, if the book ends up being around 48-52 pages, then at the pace I was going, they'd be waiting another 4 years for this to be finished. If anything they should be applauded for being as patient as they were, especially Jodo, a wonderful, generous man who only wants to see his book finished and deserves more than I've been able to give him. I've wanted to talk about all this for a long time but wasn't able to. I may stil do more pages and the cover, but other than that I'm not sure. Now you know everything I know.:)

So...30 pages in 6 years. 5 pages a year. 1 page every 2.4 months. Assuming he's not able to sell the pages until the book is done, how does one make a living? Or does he sell them as he finnishes?

I had the chance to skim through it, and Charest's pages are pure beauty. They constitute roughly half of the book, the center.
His color choices and lines have become even more bold and assured than before.

The rest of the art does its job, but isn't spectacular.

What Rich Friend posted on DA the other day;

Eddy Choi ordered a bunch from Amazon.fr (they show up in about 3 to 4 days and it's the same as ordering on the US site) and he gave me one yesterday....

It's the same for me when I order from the US Amazon and have it shipped here. They just send the stuff from warehouses here in Canada.

Also, good to see European BD get some love on PJ :)

Well, Humanoids was really the only people bringing that stuff into the states and it seems that company is almost dead. They stopped publishing the regular Metabarons series awhile ago.

But maybe Charest's name alone might get this brought over here.

Is there actually a printing of Spacegirl? I've only ever seen it on his MSN group page. I'll have to check that out if it is, cuase it was a good strip he had going.

It was from Travis and his wife. He had a table, was signing and selling the books. It's a hardcover, light grey on the outside and printed on nice paper.

And what is Metabarons? Is it a tabletop RPG?

Gotcha, thanks. I was perusing Charest's work and saw a few covers that said RPG, but Judge Dredd has spawned a few different games as well. I'll have to look it up - it seems interesting (especially with Charest's art).

Thanks to this thread I got a copy of Space Girl ,and this might be the most beautiful thing ever. I like it WAY better then the metabarons painted stuff. Travis is a master of pen and ink with washes.
