dont u sometimes wish that for swimming there really was a 800 meter pool? no splits just one straight race.?

or in track and field there really was a 800meters straight track.no ovals just one straight race..

what got me thinking what would happen if swimming adopted an oval swimming pool like it is in track and field.

and track adopted a split like it is in swimming where u have to do suicides and go back and forth. u can use crash pads with sensors for each end.

which would look prove more disastrous...

My money is on running into a wall.

None of these sound particularly weird when you consider there's a sport where you ski and shoot.

I think a really long swimming pool would be cool but you have to factor in the building size. The Water Cube in China is huge for just 50m of lanes and a diving pool. Imagine the lap pool being 16x that long. That's a lot of water. You'd have to trade the event in for a sort of cross country swim type thing in the same place they do sculling, just swim 1500m down the river.

How about swimming on the white water course, that'd be fun to watch.

I think they are introducing more open water swimming events into the olympics. Which is cool.

Swimming in an oval hands down. I don't even know how someone would regulate that...
