Welcome to the CBC&CA board. This is an experimental group dedicated to analyzing and discussing current and past comic books and graphic novels.
The Comic Book Club will be run (at the start) by moderator volunteers. They'll suggest books to be read and the discussions that will take place every two weeks will be about those books. The current book will be stickied. Everyone is welcome to attend, but please at least give the book a read first.
The Comic Analysis forum will stay as it is, an open area of discussion for anyone willing to give a critical eye to a recent issue of a comic. In this area, try to pick books that aren't more than a couple months old at the most.
During the course of open discussion, the ideas of race, politics, religion and sex are bound to come up as a majority of comics deal with these issues. Please keep in mind that penciljack.com has a "no religion, no politics" debate policy. Given that, feel free to discuss any themes you may find in the books as they pertain to the stories themselves and avoid attaching personal subjectivity to the conversations. Moderators will have the authority to prune or close entire discussions. Let's all be civil.
If you have any questions, please contact any of the moderators. Have fun!

The first book that we will be discussing on Monday, August 4th is Maus, volumes 1 and 2. I'm really excited for this.

Isn't that a little too soon? I thought it was every two weeks.

The first one will begin August 4th. The next one begins two weeks later on August 18, then September 1. We wanted to jump right in though, which is why we're starting with the very accessible Maus as it's a book that many own and pretty much every library will have.

I like his information, too. Xadrian is quite prolific and handsome.
I'm afraid I won't be participating in the first discussion as I have yet to read that book.

Well if you haven't read Maus before, wouldn't this be the perfect time to ;) I'm sure your library has a copy.

I'm sure it doesn't. We don't have shops dedicated exclusively to comics here, remember?
Technically, I can read it. I have a "digital" copy of the book. But I really hate reading comics on a monitor.
By the way, will we be discussing specific comic runs in future discussions, or will this be limited to GNs and single issues?

We're starting off with GNs, but may try runs in the future.

I was wondering what will be the next book. I think advance notice is a good idea, so that we can try to find and read the book to discuss it.

From the Maus thread:
Reminder: Two weeks from now we will start our second book in PJ:CBC on August 18th. The book will be City of Glass by Paul Auster, Paul Karasik, and David Mazzucchelli.

On the first day of a new discussion, we'll be announcing the next book. That gives you 2 weeks to order it from Amazon or find it at your library, or maybe find it in your own collection. If 2 weeks is too short, let us know and we'll reconsider.

thanks, I'll try to pick this up.

Two weeks is somewhat short for me. Shipping takes an average of two weeks, sometimes less, and on occassion a lot more.
One month advance notice would be ideal, I believe, especially since most of the books we'll be discussing I probably don't own if the first two are any indication. I'm more into mainstream superhero comics to be honest, and Image is the most abstract I get ;)
However, this is a great opportunity to discover new books.

Well we've got the first set books and dates planned out, but after the first few are done we're going to talk about if anything needs tweaking, so we'll definitely keep you in mind. To help the ordering process, after City of Glass on August 18th, we'll be doing Pride of Baghdad by Brian K. Vaughan and Niko Henrichon beginning September 1st.

Okay. So, okay. I spend sixteen of my hard-earned American dollars on a reprint of the Pride of Baghdad hardcover and this thread dies? What gives?
I'll take my compensation in the form of Absolute DC: New Frontier, thank you.

I think it'll only work if we have a few people running new threads. I thought we had enough, I don't know what happened.

Hey, I'm really sorry about that, Eb. I should have continued it after DJ did Maus. I'll try to write one for the beginning of next month. I'll stay with PoB.
