I can barely look at anything at work...they block everything on the web including all jpegs, gifs, etc.

I can't even look at cnn.com

PJ is one of the few sites I can actually look at, but I can't see any pictures or even the smilies.

It's complete and utter bullshit.

Try doing research on a computuer that won't let you look at anything.

I land up having to do work at home because I generally cannot find what I need when I am at work. Go Figure.

There excuse is that their filter pretty much blocks everything and you have to request that the Tech administrator unblocks specific sites...but you still can't look at any jpegs or gifs on those sites.

Some of the art posted here is MUCH better when you can't see it.

Oooh. Did I really say that?

Nasty. >D

Is the research and the ability to see graphics on the web part of your job? Tell them what you need to do your job.

If not, get an iPhone.

Just use a proxy server.

yeah...that really doesn't seem to matter to them.

I teach and for projects, I sometimes need to look up material, or students need to do research...but they really can't. If I find a cool online tutorial, I can't access it at work and show it to the class. It's all B.S.

I was talking to my grandpa the other day, and he was like, "When I was a kid, we didn't have internets in school and neither did Neil Armstrong or Harry Truman or Alexander the Great," and I was like, "NO WAI!" And he was like, "Totally wai."

For reals, my mind was blown.

Well, if you didn't look at Porn on company computers, they wouldn't have to block everything. :skull:

I don't look at porn, and at work I'm usually searching thru the internet for work related items, and that crap pops up on almost every search I use.

My company used to have that probably but they eventually turned it off, due to people having to call the techs every few minutes, just to access company site log on page & etc.

I'm a network admin so I'm getting a kick out of these replies.

Honestly, it sounds like you have lazy admins and they've got an out of the box solution that just blocks everything by default and they aren't getting any granular checking out of it. We're using Websense and it's very easy to go allow ebay or target or store sites and still allow a good level of porn/malicious/gambling/gun blocking.

We've got streaming media locked down, so no YouTube or podcasts, but blocking jpgs? That seems a bit draconian.

My grandpappi was the same way. He was always like "at work, you're supposed to work, not waste time seeing if you can get a tittie shot past your internet filter."

Old folks are such luddites, whistlin' while you work just ain't enough these days. :(

What they didn't tell you is when they "worked" it was in smoke filled rooms with whiskey lunches and 2 hours around a water cooler talking about the Bears game.

Well, if you don't want to use a proxy server like was suggested twice...then just do your internet research at home and bring it to work on a thumbdrive. Always works for me...since the school I work at has all the important stuff blocked at the district level.

Proxies won't help if they are blocked and all graphics are blocked anyway.

If a proxy server that isn't on their block list is used, it should work without a problem. I doubt they're blocking images at the browser level.
