Milo Croswell is the awkward and quite frankly goofy 14 year old son of world renowned scientist Oswald Croswell. Your job is to draw what happens when Milo discovers and steals his father's experimental jet pack, which was created for the military.

I'm always running late with these, but again I am really enjoying the idea of a weekly topic to sketch. I was really trying to tighten this up more, but here I am again tossing out the rougher pencils.

I'll most likely ink this one. More practice with the brush pens. Looking forward to the Ironman week 59 sketch. THANKS again Manji-

Not quite goofy and not quite 14 but:

and the sketches for a jet-pack that made sense. These were mostly bastardizations of other folks' rocket packs:

These are really cool, man, but the jet pack designs would really benefit artistically if you used some circle and ellipse templates, a french curve and a straight edge to tidy things up a bit. Some people shy away from using such tools, but an artist who can use those tools well always produces artwork that's more impressive, I think.

Another thing to consider when drawing something symmetrical like the jetpack is using the flip method. Basically, you draw one side of the symmetrical image, then you flip it over and trace it off so that both sides will be an even match. When I'm drawing symmetrical objects, or faces facing straight forward, I frequently employ the flip method. It really works out well to keep jaw lines eyes and cheekbones aligned, for instance. Sure, it's sometimes a bit mechanical, but it does work out well 99% of the time.

Just thought I'd mention that as food-for-thought.

Thanks Loston. Your crits are always helpful. I bought the tools a long time ago and never use them. I think I'm afraid of them but I'll definitely dust them off for the next time.

Did this as a warm up today. I just can't seem to let this jetpack thing go.
