If caught voting with multiple user accounts, I think the guilty party (or parties) should be blocked from all future draw-off voting and participation. There are no excuses for such poor sportsmanship and bad behavior. It's not fair to those who spend valuable hours producing artwork to entertain us all, if they don't receive adequate punishment for violating the rules in this manner.

Loston

Agreed. It totally goes against the whole idea and principle of the draw-offs. It's a shame.

Wow. I thought voting for yourself was as uncool a thing as someone could do in a draw-off. Not anymore

Cheating to win a draw-off is extremely sad, and the cheaters deserve punishment.

I'm really hoping it's not any of the actual participants! Surely not...but immediate DQ if so.

We couldn't tie the multiple accounts to any existing members just new accounts.

I'm really pissed off about this. This draw-off was one of the most positive morale boosters on PJ in a long time, and now it feels spoiled. I was so enthusiastic about the draw-offs for the first time in years, staying up late just to see the entries posted for vote. Now my enthusiasm is seriously diminished. Cheating to win a draw-off is extremely sad, and the cheaters deserve punishment. If caught voting with multiple user accounts, I think the guilty party (or parties) should be blocked from all future draw-off voting and participation. We couldn't tie the multiple accounts to any existing members just new accounts.

This situations really blows. The last time I participated in a draw-off. I was ahead on votes by a landslide for two weeks of voting, until the last day. Then, the final minutes of voting, I watched my opponent demolish my 60% of the vote lead, and turn it into a one-point victory. I was pretty stunned, to say the least. Looking into those people voting, there were a lot of new PJ members accounts created that day, with these new members seem to post only once. Yep. The voting post. None of these new members ever posted again after the draw-off was over.

I don't mind losing a draw-off, but I was pretty miffed at how this one ended. It was all very suspicious. I complained via PM to the person in charge of the draw-off, point all this out, as I recall. He responded that there was nothing he could really do about the situation, and suggested I just tried to forget it. I did just that, hoping that this was just a "one time" occurrence on the draw-off boards, and just moved on.

Fast forward, and I'm seeing the same thing happening again, and I'm angry and very disappointed. The same pitt in my stomach feeling has returned again.

This tournament started off as a real inspiration. Now I'm just very disappointed in the pettiness of people... :(

Spidey
04-19-2008, 04:56 PM
Unfortutantely there is no way to tell Morgan as I didn't enable the public vote for the first round. The best option now is to carry on the tourney as is. Boy, lesson learned!

Yeah, Loston I know what you mean, but we did deduce our findings to one existing member. You can't trust people even on something as easygoing as an art forum. I think I may have make somekind of rule for voting on draw-offs in the near future where registration date, IP address and forum activity come into play. I feel like an airport screener now. It's sad really.

Wow. Whoever did this is somewhat of a sociopath.

I guess this is all heading to some sort of post count to be eligible to vote in a draw off (if that's possible). 'Sorta like getting an avatar or something.

Shame.

Dude ... I know he is a competeter ... but I don't think he would would like to come back in much right now ... also .... how do you know he won ... you put it a great piece. I think the only way you should back out right now ... is if you knew for sure ... and I don't think that is possible. Morgan your stuff is top notch ... I also BEG you to stay in ... hi there guys!

i'd like 2 publically say tht since i am new here, i have nothing 2 do with he whole cheating thing.

i came here 2 help me improve my skills and not 2 cheat my way into it. i feel shame on the person who has gone out of their way 2 do something like this.

i am loudly speaking 2 the newbies like myself and cold-blooded-angel.

as 4 the people who r in this tourney i feel either way they have earned their spot. so no one should forfiet it anytime soon.

i am really sorry 2 hear this and hope it gets resolve soon.

Hmmm ... what about having the guys who were eliminated in the first round ... come back and have a shot at the guys who were eliminated this round??? I don't know if that would create some three or four way battles ... or big semis ... but it could make some for somebig battles ... and some fun. Maybe someone smarter then I am at this stuff could figure it out ... lol.

Mana ... don't sweet it ... just because you are new ... doesn't mean we are looking at you ... my guess is ... it has nothing to do with anyone it the tourny ... artists of this caliber usually have integrity. At least I hope so

Spidey
04-19-2008, 05:23 PM
I could add a losers bracket making it a double elimination tournament just for the sake of fairness, which will also extend the dates ,but right now I'm concentrating on the charlaton, how I want to deal with him and how it ultimately affects the tournament.

Morganza
04-19-2008, 05:27 PM
.... how do you know he won ...

What made me suspicious was, near the last hour of voting, Dr. Baltar was 3 votes from winning and suddenly i got 10 votes to win.

So I have my doubts, and it's really unfair to everyone who participated, it is a real mess now IMO.

Spidey ... dude ... honestly you are the man. I trust everything will be done in a fair and just manor.

Morgan> I know we haven't chatted much since I joined ... and I am still a newbie relative to some ... BUT ... in my oppinion ... and I hope everyone who competed reads this ... THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPRESSIVE DISPLAYS OF ARTISTIC TALENT I HAVE EVER SEEN. If you back out now ... I will have a VERY bitter taste in my mouth about this thing because I have always loved your work ... and as much as Dr. B did a great job (I did vote for him myself) ... I didn't get any hint of sour grapes from him. Also, everyone here is stepping up there game and ThreeEyes came with an amazing piece. If he is going to beat you ... let him do it straight up ... I can't speak for him ... but I would hate to "win" by default or concession. Let Spidey work his magic ... you never know ... we might get a Dr. B & Morgan round TWO. :D

TO: All involved

The work has been beautiful; please don't let this overshadow your amazing artistic achievements.

Can't believe this wasn't caught sooner. I had suspicions when I noticed votes dramatically turned in the last rounds.

Some people have way TOO much time on their hands. Just yesterday I checked names on the public poll to see the legitimacy of their profile. Whether they have posted art and so forth. Not hard to tell the fake accounts.

In the end best of luck to advancing combatants because they deserve it. that's the bottom line now.

This is an unfortunate situation. However it simply reinforces the kick ass talent we have on this site.

The quality on this draw off has been unbelievable.

So there was some goofiness. Its not the results that matter. it's the fact, that we have some people who push themselves to outdo themselves.

I'm sure I will implement a lenient rule on the established status of the accounts that are eligible to vote in the future, but for now I'm only counting 1 vote per IP address if its a new account.

Seems to me like setting a rule like you must a minimum of 20 posts before you can vote in the draw-offs would help matters greatly. That kind of rule would discourage someone from doing this sort of thing in the future for sure. At the same time, I don't think asking a newbie to have 20 posts before being allowed voting privileges is too strick a policy. New PJers could still post comments on the threads and check out the results of voting. Such a policy might do a little to encourage new members to explore a few more areas on the boards besides the PROVING GROUNDS also, Spidey

A shame that some people take such a fun event so seriously.
In the end, the particpating artists still kick major ass, so even if some people tried to go Poutine elections on us, well, the work remains top notch, so... Don't get too worked up over that shameful event, it's just a friendly tournament, and the show must go on!

Hate to go back to this as it seems like the community is moving on, and that's awesome, but I'd like to address a couple of points:

Just yesterday I checked names on the public poll to see the legitimacy of their profile. Whether they have posted art and so forth. Not hard to tell the fake accounts.

Please keep in mind that perhaps not all members of Penciljack are themselves kickass artists. Some of us are merely your greatest fans.

This seems very reasonable to me. Check my post count, obviously I'm new to Penciljack. Also, I'm not any type of illustrator (you guys are all kick-ass, by the way). But I have great appreciation for what's going on, I know what I like, and I think I have an eye for good art.

I joined because a friend of mine who IS an artist is using these forums to improve his work and I have been trying to follow his progress (as well as contribute to his efforts). Happened to get into the mix during this Thunderbrawl. So I voted. I voted in the first round (which my friend was in), I voted in the second round (which he was not). I have also voted in other polls.

I have cruised around the various forums, marvelling at the level of artistry on these forums and in disbelief that so many of you aren't doing this professionally.

I haven't posted much, because... well... who am I?

Anyway, just wanted to point out that not all Penciljackers may be sh!t hot illustrators, colorists, inkers, pencillers, what have you.

But if you are going to vote, good ol' Bruce has the right of it, you should also contribute, even just your words. It's how you earn your place in ANY community, is by contributing to it.

Anyway, just thought I'd say that.

And repeat that I'm so amazingly impressed by all of your talent.

I don't want to get into too much detail, but the new member parameters for voting are not yet in effect. I trimmed down the votes based on the multiples IPs I seen. So if you and a friend share a computer I only counted one. I'll work out the rules on how many posts one should have or how old of a member you have to be, but as is the value of your post count wasn't an issue this time as was the number of different accounts that were on the same IP address. I hope that clears some things up.

Congratulations Nate Lovett on your final win to become Thunderbrawl's first ever champion! You fought hard in the first round vs the only real artist on par with your skills :o . Through 3 days of voting it teetered back and forth until settling on a very rare draw. Leading to a 3-way match. Not only were you to battle Olli and his blazing Atlas a second time, but also a 3rd talented competitor, Chico Blue, was added to the mix. Even after a few hiccups with the voting process and tough competition you still managed to break on through with Sarah's gigantic electro-hammer. The quarter finals brought even sterner competition when Morganza surprised us with some fantastic sequentials. Conquering that stage you still had to face your final competitor. Mana-booozy and his ginourmous tank of a wrestler, Dree, who was breaking through the competition on his side of the brackets with his no nonsense, full of energy pin-ups and dynamite sequentials. Despite his own busy schedule he too was going all out for a spot at the top. In the end however there was room for only one.
Your determination and consistent display of raw talent cemented your spot in the finals early on. You earned a well deserve victory in this tourney and we hope that Sarah we be back to defend her crown next year.

I want to thank everyone for participating and producing some extraordinary art from start to finish and for staying with us through our rough patch. Hope you guys and anyone else that's interested return next year for more Thunderbrawl action.

In the meantime, if you have an itchy drawing finger please take a look in this forum for current challenges with other talented folks and Manji's Weekly Sketch Group topics weekly in the Community Projects (http://www.penciljack.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=42) forum. Also, look forward to the brutal, upcoming "Survival of the Fittest" competition coming this summer.
