damn...this was a treat.
Wow thanks guys, you're too kind! Glad you dig. Sorry for not linking that image though. As it was very , well, sketchy, I thought it wouldn't be an issue.
Because you guys rock, here's a little peek on the progress on the Hulk image:

Coloring still isn't natural for me, but I hope to get there some day.
Cheers!

A few marker and ball point sketches I did, watching the people on the metro (I usually have very little time for these, as the people move a lot and/or don't like to be drawn). Actual size:

That batman pic is really oldschool cool, I like the grittiness, eventhough the inking is a bit too messy for my tastes.
Fantastic stuff in this thread, please post more!
Hey! thank you very much
And yeah, that inking IS too messy.

From now on, I'll also include finished pieces. From sketch blog to blog I guess, heh. I think it'll be just easier to navigate that way.

I didn't see the first two page of the story...they're amazing, the introduction to the sequential zooming with a worm eye view first and a worm one after really works fine!
the tilted views is also a very good touch...what's add...I'm really impressed
Thank you immensely!
The immersive aspect of the pages is one of the things I try to pay the most attention to.
Krikkit: The plan is to have this book published! cross your fingers with me!
Right now it is a 120+ page story which might expand, don't know yet. I will post more pages before then ;)
Cheers, and thanks for the interest and great feedback all!

I'm really happy that you guys seem to enjoy the sequentials the most, as it's the thing I like doing best, and had the most fun with. More to come soon. And til then, here is yesterday's sketch finished. Gonna slap some colors on it now.

Here is something pretty old I realize I never posted here

some oil studies (not really PJ-targeted but oh well)
http://www.lfdp.net/artwork/albums/userpics/10002/Oils_oils_oils___Samantha_Fox_by_jel.jpg
And as this is a SKETCH blog, some phone doodles done with unerasable colored pencils (over several calls ;) ) I'm really liking the drawing sensation with wax.

Man, great sketch blog you got here. I be sure to check in time from time.
And that Guile in that doodle page looks awesome.
>dfbovey: Thank you! The wax pencils were a happy accident, and I've been loving them over the past few days. I've tried erasing them, and it gives a messy look which could prove useful for suggesting motion or some specific kind of surface/tone.
>WolfSpiritZero: Well thank you for chiming in! Glad you like the guile too, I started by drawing his left arm, and tried to think of something to attach to it!

I've tried erasing them, and it gives a messy look which could prove useful for suggesting motion or some specific kind of surface/tone.
Yeah, I used it for that purpose in a recent piece. It's also good for certain textures. Or if you want to fade things into the background a bit. On one of the larger pieces I've done, I used the technique to simulate pours in skin.
Thanks, I'll be sure to keep all that in mind :)
On another note, here's some of tonight's sketching:

fantastic stuff. I really enjoy your one page sketch collages with whatever flows. Your anatomy is spot on as well. You know how to wrap some skin and muscles around some tendons man!
Thanks Bathill, I find a lot of fun in mindless sketching, and it's often a way to experiment, release pressure and open some inspirational doors. It's sometimes more satisfying than a finished and planned piece!
Anyways, here's something I finihed recently. Didn't post it in the finished images board as I think it is somewhat too graphic for PJ's general target audience if I believe the terms of use... If it's okay with the mods though, I'd love to post it for crits.

The inking is a bit sloppy in places, but I feel it is energetic.
I'm going to color it and change a lot of things, (mainly get rid f the blacks and the sky), using the pencils directly.
I'd love to gt feedback on the previous piece...

You're right, the inking was a little sloppy on that but it's wicked gruesome and tells a story very well. I can't wait to see it colored. I'm going to guess I'm saving it to my hard drive when it's done. Thumbs up! :)

Inspired by Goya? It looks kewl but could benefit by raising the
branch higher as well as the people. The bull's horns and eye
direction are leading the viewers' eye higher imo. It will give the
composition a better flow. You do some great stuff, Jel.
I really dig the volume you get in your life drawings.
The figures although fluid have a undeniable mass.
Thanks guys! Dri: Not directly nor deliberately inspired by Goya, but I definitely thought of him while I was finishing my drawing. I looked up his painting once I was done, and it is funny how some things can be engraved into your automatic memory without you even being conscious of it.
It bears some kinship in the subject but our drawings are pretty diffferent ;)
Thanks for the crit too, unfortunately, I was too advanced to go back, and I was still pretty happy with the lines.

You guys didn't seem to dig the SF pages? I thought it was pretty fun.
Here are some old pictures of paintings I did last year and back in june in oils. They are unfinished, and will most likely stay that way. Done in oils in about 2h30 - 3 hours each, dimensions around 120 x 90 cm.

Just saw the street fighter pages. ****ing awesome!! :D
Thanks alfred!
Here's a part of a storyboard I did a while ago for a short film. It was fun, and I had to crank this out at full speed (obviously not the same level of polish as regular artwork)
Reads from top to bottom and then left to right.

JELLIE! awesome stuff, you have a cools style, looks as tho u took figure drawing classes and a very organic flow and energy , if that makes any sense.
I think this is my first comment in your blog, if so , sorry bout that.
KRISSIE! Thanks a lot man, it did make sense, and your words bring joy to my little heart.
I actually started attending figure drawing workshops (= no theory or teacher, just a model) around a year and a half ago. It definitely helped improve the smoothness of my figures, although I would say that most of what I do today is a result of observation and study of anatomy prior to that. Life drawing classes will always help, but one can already do a lot by just observing and learning theory. I think what I try to pay the most attention to is the rythm of the body.
MOving on, here are a sketch done during the jam, colored afterwards:

The SF sequentials look very nice. Great characterization there. I'm also feeling the moose man. That is genius. Keep it up.

Awww, thanks guys, I really appreciate that, makes me feel all warm inside!
I'll post some more boards then, as soon as I get clearance to do so.
For now, here are a couple pieces I forgot to post here:
A reworked panel from my comic:

and this

Pin-up done for a contest. Unfortunately, I lost interest in it very quickly after having already done too much not to complete it, so it was pretty painful to finish.

I think it's the just the subject that got me.

Isn't that just the worst? I hate it when I lose interest because then the process becomes some laborious. Great work by the way.
It is definitely the worst, and things indeed got very laborious and dragged for too long. But hey, now I can move forward, and I learned a few things on the way.
I think what I'm mainly unhappy with is the composition which really doesn't convey what it was supposed to.
Thanks for the healing words by the way ;)

This latest work is really nice!
OOOOkay, my previous imagehost went down, so I lost most if not all of my previous images, sorry about that :/ for a lot of them, I don't have copies on my harddrive anymore... Also I'm not totally sure of what I have posted, and what I haven't.
And I haven't been very active here due to overactivity in real life.
So anyway, to try and fix all this mess, here are a few images I've done recently, mainly for a jam comic I'm doing with another artist around Street Fighter. Lots of fun. (If you want to read the whole thing, hop on to my deviantart account, his pics and mine are linked in the right order.

Jel, you are Manji's density!
Great stuff! Looks very good and its funnier than anything I've seen in a loooong time :D
Thanks a bunch Al, hopefully the rest will live up to it ;)
Page done after the other guy, there are 3 other that are following, I just haven't finished them yet.

...And new page is done!
Only 2 left to go before I can breathe a little. The sketchy/messy aspect is mostly intended, as these are pages done quickly, and are not supposed to be worked on too much.
Click for bigger size, since the forum resizes the images:

As I said on DA the cheapest hair grease :-D
And the most effective too!
... not that I know anything about it of course :o
Thanks for the comment Simone!
I stated earlier that the page was supposed to look sketchy, but the reduced image (compared to the 300 dpi scanned photoshop file) is a lot darker and muddier than the original file. I tried to save it as a .png, but didn't change anything.
Anybody know how to remedy to this?
I've been doing one page a day after work, the pace is thrilling but kind of wears you down after a while... I had fun with this one, and loosened up a little more (compared to the previous ones)
By the way, any feedback regarding storytelling is welcome, especially if there's stuff you thought wasn't really clear...

Here is a selection of subway sketches done respectively over 2008, 2009 and 2010. Hopefully I got better with time!
Usually a few secs- minutes per sketch, rarely more than 2-3 minutes.

JELLIE!!!!!!!!!!!!! some great comic pages there, funny weird shit. So your figure drawing class consist of drawing smelly frenchmen on the train?
KRISSIE!!!!!!! Thanks for stopping by, glad you found the pages to be to your liking heh. As for the figure drawing class, you pretty much nailed it, it's something of a meditative routine, warm-up, whatever, who usually puts me in the right conditions for "serious" drawing afterwards. Not to mention that it enriches the mental visual library, develops speed and memory, and helps to think in shapes and simplification, due to the terribly temporary state of most of the poses faces.
And the smell is always a titillating plus ;)
