Here is a small sample of past sketches. It didn't seem right to keep looking at other's work without sharing a bit of my own.

I have played around with several different inking techniques. They all have their uses I find.

This is just your run of the mill warrior type.

And another but perhaps in a minute of contemplation. Also, done in a softer, somewhat "linier" render. This one has some issues but I still like it.

A stalker in the mist. Again, it has some issues but as inked rough I like it.

A quick little ink and colored pencil design commissioned for a custom paint job.

My take on Atlantian, an Erik Larson character. I was doing this for a website devoted to the Savage Dragon universe and was excited about it (being a huge Namor/Atlantis fan) but after reading the few issues he was in, I got the feeling he was more of a parody character and lost interest soon after.

Another "warrior meets apeman".
I have to say how much I have enjoyed this forum since I joined. I don't really hang with other artists much. I am a network engineer and IT director for 3 very large companies and so am resigned to interacting with computer geeks for much of the day (no offense fellas, I am one too). So I really dig hanging out here. I am rather jealous of the time some of you guys have to draw. For me it is only a few hours a week.

like the differing inking styles. Last post especially has a BWS feel to it. Just incase I'm not being clear I meant Barry Windsor Smith (BWS)

Dude, just so you know, when I try to look at this thread, your site (crichton.liquidweb.com) asks me to log in. As a result, a couple of the images don't show.
BUT, what I do see of your work, I like it muchly. I really dig the style and genre.

I was having a website issue earlier so I moved the images until I get it resolved.
My apologies for the lack of images earlier in the day.

Yeah, I saw that and moved the images temporarily. I have a bit of arranging to do on the other site.
Thanks for the nice words and I apologize for the mess up. :)

I tried to do a version of the Death Dealer a couple years ago in the middle of doing a bunch of LOTR commissions and it came out a little to clean looking. Solid inks but not gritty enough.

Drawn, inked, and airbrushed. Today this would be colored in Photoshop but this was done in...1984? Anyway, if I ever reach a point financially when I can fund a small indie, This will be the logo.

Your artwork is looking great. There are a few things that you my need help with. Looking at your work I can see you draw armor really well. The part that sticks out is the cloths. The folds in the cloths need more referencing. Right know you got allot of lines the need to come from a pulling or pushing point. The folds seem to repeat them self allot as well. Try grabbing lots of photos of different clothing’s for the “middle age” and see how the folds work around the human figure. There are also great tutorials on drawing folds.

You are right, they aren't done very realistically. Some of that come from lack of practice and some of it comes from my drawing kilts, capes, and cloaks as flowing, windblown things. Typically I am more interested in the placement of the black areas than in realism. You are right though, with a bit of work I should be able to do both.

Thanks. :) I have the helmet down to where I can draw it in my sleep. Frazetta did several different versions of armor for DD so I am looking for something cool but functional. I am already rethinking parts of it.
If anyone is interested, I still think the best drawn comic version of DD has been done by Liam Sharp.

His color work is kind of a Bisley knock off but his ink stuff IMO is better than Biz.
Nate Jones has done some fantastic DD figure work but his overall work on the new comic was rushed and spotty. Combined with really poor color it detracted from what was an awesome story this time around. I would have loved to see Sharp working with Ortega on the recently finished mini-series.

This is a WIP. I need to adjust the city right off. The mountain and the city's angle and perspective are off a bit.
