US Army Special Forces unit, led by Major Alan "Dutch" Schaefer
or
Colonial Marines, led by Lieutenant Gorman, the veteran Sergeant Apone
Granted the Colonial Marines had better weapons.

On the toughness scale, bare bones, no weapons, and no cybernetic implants of any kind...
US Army Special Forces unit, led by Major Alan "Dutch" Schaefer wins hands down.Theres no contest.
The predator group consisted of Conan the Barbarian,Action Jackson,Jessy the body Ventura, some Indian guy that looked like he escaped from G.I. Joe ,three other no names. Not sure you can get tougher then that, laf
Theres was allot of straight up pussys on that aliens marines squad like Hudson,Ferro and Gorman.

Give him some credit; both actors pictured were in Commando as well as Predator.

The Marines had Bishop.
The commandos had Apollo Creed.
The Marines had badass chicas.
The commandos had the Terminator.
The Marines were the few, the proud, the dogmeat.
The commandos were an expendable asset.
Hudson wanted to know how to get out of this chicken s*** outfit.
Blain ain't got time to bleed.
The Marines had gyroscopically-mounted miniguns and an APC.
The commandos had a Vulcan.
Two Marines ended up as vampires (Near Dark).
Two commandos ended up as State Governors.
Tough, tough choice there. And I can't use the old-school card to bail myself out of this one.
As much as I love Aliens better as a movie, the Special unit commandos were more badass... They kept their cool to the end.

Well, Schwartzenegger did polish off the Predator when all was said and done, but the colonial marines never seemed to get too far without help from the lady from Gorillas in the Mist.
When you further consider that she was also in a movie where she was menaced by Harry Connick Jr. I think the choice is obvious.

The bad-acting, lovey dovey mobile infantry from starship troopers were tougher than the marines from aliens.

Yeah, but that's only 'cause they had Michael Ironside on their side. Now that's a bad ass! >D

If we're just talking the characters from the films with the equipment they had at their disposal, I gotta go Colonial Marines. For one, they have lots of armor. For two, there are more of them. For three, they've got futurey weapons. For four, as Hudson says, they're the ultimate badasses.
Dutch and company are smaller in number, not exactly dressed for battling a futuristic army unit, and simply not well-enough equipped. They have Blaine's helicopter gun, but that's not enough against an entire squad of flamethrowers, smart guns, and M41-A Pulse Rifles with grenade launchers.

colonial marines, per larqs rationale.

Dutch and company, no contest. Every one of them was a stone cold, hard as nails, master killer(except maybe Hawkins, but he had great jokes). The colonial marines, with a few notable exceptions, were just well equipped canon fodder. I mean, they gave all their ammo to one guy to hold for them, as they entered a potential combat situation, and then they accidentally flame-throwered the poor guy. I couldn't see Dutch, and Blain, and crazy never-stops-shaving Mac, putting themselves into such a FUBAR situation. They were consummate professionals. Not that that mattered to the Predator.

Let's cut to the heart of the matter, shall we?
Who would win in a fight:
Sigourney Weaver or Arnold Schwarzenegger?
