Ok my first time seeing your work and here is some c & c.

I enjoy the sketches where you are playing with proportions like the image on top of this page (The bald man in profile) but anatomically speaking the proportions are off on people of your sketches.

I enjoy reading Andrew Loomis's books (especially the one about figure drawing). It has some great notes on proportion and how you can teach yourself some landmark's on the human body to make sure everything works. It takes a while to see any improvement though of course like anything else, but if you practice enough out of some anatomy books your stuff should definitely improve. Don't be discouraged that people don't reply, keep posting and improving and they'll come around :)

And dont take the whole "not getting comments" personally. Ask yourself "why am I not getting comments?" U need to try harder and impress people with your work, so they DO leave u comments.

Aztek, I can see the flatness that you're talking about, but when you say add more value... Are you thinking I colour too much to the light side so there's not enough contrast? If so, I agree with you. I've been trying more with each piece to not over highlight. On a lot of monitors it gives my work a really washed out look. And about not getting comments, I'm just frustrated because I'm trying to get some help on my work, which is what these boards are for. Some of the artists that I admire most are right here on PJ and it's just annoying when everyone looks and nobody tells me what I can do better.

I've been quite on the feedback front for a week or two now. Time break my celibacy! I agree with Aztec’s comment on the colour values. I'm no expert, but I would suggest you try some colour experimentation. Try colouring an image a few times over but different each time. Maybe one variation in full sunlight another with under lighting and so forth. It might give you the break through to the next level.

Hey, Covie..You need to flick through DC's Guide to coloring. At the moment your colours become muddy because you choose colors on the left side of the palette in PS. What that basically means is that you are using colors with grey in it and it flattens work. I was going to comment on your Thor piece ages ago but my comp was having a hard time.

People sometimes don't realise how much colour theory there is. The more you know about stuff like complimentary colours, the better your approach.

In terms of no comments, I'm kind of waiting to see you do full figures. I enjoyed your drawing of a dog a while back so maybe more sketches of animals. Also if you are struggling to come with ideas there is Manji's sketch group providing the spark for peeps to explore ideas with as little as ten words.

Recent stuff... I haven't had much time for anything in the arts. Life sucks, my business partner and room mate screwed us with a DWI when he wrapped his car around a telephone, we're looking to hand the store off to someone else, my mom came to visit, I'm working like a dog (Haha! Hey dude,

first and foremost, you show good potential!
I like the variation in your sketches, not only thematically, but also the medium you use.

Here's my advice:
Study. Study anatomy. Study perspective. Study light and shadow. Study color theory.
Don't half-ass it. Take it seriously. There are good books out there. Don't just read them, STUDY them. Study real-life. Guess what, you're constantly bombarded with visuals, and you can stop for a moment, and think about it. Wow, look at the light coming from that window. How's that work? You see a man sitting on a bench. What's his pose like? REMEMBER what muscles are situated where, how many types of shadows there are, in what way one color influences another, and so on.

Then apply your new-found knowledge. Don't just roll with it; but THINK about what you're doing. It's math, baby. To hell with creativity. You're not there yet. Get the basics DOWN. The fancy stuff is for later.
Like I said, it's math. Learn to add, detract, multiply and divide. Once you can do that, you're all set to tackle arithmetic paradoxes, Neuberg's theorem, subfactorials and linear programming.

But for now. Add. Detract. Multiply. Divide.


EDIT: oh and don't EVER use photoshop filters.

The stuff you have done on the tablet looks much better than the crap I churned out when I first started using it. On that third image, I would suggest taking the brush size down and spend time building up the fur on the fox.

Looking thru your thread.You really have some creative stuff.But when you do superheroes they seem kind of like midgets.I dont think the poportion's are right for superheroes but they work for the other weird type characters you draw.

Are you mayhaps confusing my pictures of a dwarf, of which there are a few, with super heroes?No what I'm referring to is something I learned from.Drawing comics the Marvel way by John Buscema and Stan Lee.The proportions on a superhero and a regular person are different.The legs and arms are longer and the head is smaller in comparison to a real person.It makes the superhero look more dynamic.I think superheroes are supposed to be like 9 heads high.You should check the book out for yourself.You might not think it would make a difference but just making the legs longer just makes the character seem totally different.:)

I seemed to have misplaced my sketchbook at work today and don't have anything for my one a day minimum. So I decided that I'd practice something other than sketching today and saw this thread (http://www.penciljack.com/forum/showthread.php?t=87703) which lead me to John Byrne's pencils. Was doing some research on various mythological critters, and came across the vitterfolk, another name for trolls.
