i agree in marvel it's gotta be reed and stark but doom??
what about Beast, Pym (hank) or Thanos?
Of course Peter Parker is smart, but well they don't mention it much so i guess he's out.
or you could consider the Kree the supreme intellegence thingy the smartest.
or cable as he knows the future... or one possible future... he confuses me. Anyway he's supposedly ridiculously smart.
or eternity, the embodiment of the marvel universe.
PLUS there's the whole Ultimates universe where Stark and Reed apparently are on par with each other and beast is dead sooooo that knocks him out of the running.
ahhh marvel, so ficken confusing and yet i love it.
as for DC, yup i agree... Batman, Lex Luthor, Mr. Terrific

Peter Parker isn't that smart. Here's proof:
Civil War.
'nuff said.
Reed Richards has proven to be an idiot too.
Dr. Doom's past actions leads me to conclude that a second grader could outwit him.
Comic book folk just aren't too bright. They do stupid stuff.

is batman suppose to be the smartest man in DC? and lex luthor 2nd? In the Overpower card game, Luthor had more intellect than Batman (for what it's worth). Personally, I'm more impressed by Batman's intellect, but whatever.

I thought Doom was supposed to be more or less Reed's equal in intellect.
Of course Peter Parker is smart, but well they don't mention it much so i guess he's out. Peter Parker's smart, and they mention it a lot, but he's like the smartest kid in your school (maybe even state), whereas these others are the smartest on the planet.
2.PROF X, the worlds smartest intellect/mind!
He's smart, and he could just cheat and read Reed's mind and Tony's, but I don't think he's as smart as them.
braniac. dur! i mean really doesnt he download and store planets info in his hard drive or what ever hes got info on stuff most characters in the DC universe dont even know exsists! True, although a lot of it is just useless information. And intelligence is more than just knowledge. It includes making good decisions with that knowledge, etc.

Oh, of course. Because no geniuses from the real world never make stupid mistakes. Silly me, thinking they were human.

All the intellect in the world means nothing if you don't have wisdom to back it up. Batman may not be THE smartest guy in comics, intellectually speaking, but he's got an extremely genius-level intellect combined with an ungodly high wisdom. It's what allows him to stay 3 steps ahead of everyone else. He knows how to apply his intellect. His resourcefulness makes him a deadly threat in the battle of brains. He more than not, also learns from his mistakes, and adapts to past failures.
Dr. Doom, on the otherhand, is an unmatched genius. Doom has a lot of wisdom too, but his own personal baggage trips him up. Dr. Doom has a HUGE weight around his neck, folks. His super-ego leads him into pitfall after pitfall and failure after failure. Doom lives in a delusional world, and his inability to face certain realities handicaps him in the long run. He blames others for his mistakes, his failures, and his current path. He can't face the truth that he, himself, is his own worst enemy.

Yeah--silly you! heh. I was only throwing out some opinions, and being silly! :D I've read comics for 30 years now, and Reed and company have proven over and over again to make SAME stupid mistakes again and again. He and many of comicdom's greatest "brains" often seem to lack the common sense of a doorknob! LOL.
We all know that fictional characters are at the mercy of writers, who often have them react or take action in a manner that is often, well... boneheaded! A writer has to make the characters as human as possible and allow them to make such mistakes to keep things interesting--otherwise the genius elite in comics would be pretty dull.

that's just because you want to incubate his man babies. Batman's not even my favorite character, but whatever.
My opinion probably actually stems from the fact that I've been able to see Batman do more stuff. Luthor doesn't even have one comic of his own, whereas Bats has half a dozen. It's harder to be impressed by someone if you know very little about them.
This is kind of a DC character. What about....
Ozymandius from Watchmen.
or
That Blue dude from Watchmen.
I think everyone in the comics are a bunch of morons.
Superman throws on some glasses and everyone is fooled.
The X-men for the longest time were outlaws and yet everyone knew where they lived and did what? nothing.
Mr Fantastic is crazy smart but after Civil War I hate him with a passion and I hope he rots in the lowest bowels of hell for all eternity.
OOHH I forgot to add Joker, I think the Joker is the smartest person in comics. somehow his logic makes sense to me.

Since you said on the planet, in Marvel I'd say Reed, Beast, and Doom. They all three seem to have a well-rounded intellect.
In DC I'd say Bats, Luthor, and Ray Palmer.
Neither scenario is in any specific order.
