Very nice! I like that pic that was lingering in your head. Would make a cool Goblin cover.

Your work looks really nice. The Prospective of allot of the piece are really great. All you really need to work on is your backgrounds.
04-11-2007, 12:11 PM
need to start updating this thing
mostly been doing anatomy studies lately.
no ref for most of them. trying to teach myself not to dely on ref
04-11-2007, 12:12 PM
don't think i posted the finished supergirl
You know, you are very good, and you seem to have a firm grasp of all the basics.
I think the weakest area in your work is your faces. Especially the proportions. Incidentally, I notice that you haven't drawn that many human faces in the different artworks you've posted.
Watch out for the shape of the nose, and the space between the nose and the mouth particularly, and you should be all set.
Oh, and last thing, I think your pencil work is far superior to your ink work, which I find often muddy, or too thick for the linework.
Keep up the good and hard work, I look forward to your posts.
Great fat guy, and the facial studes are good.:D
04-12-2007, 03:31 PM
I agree with what Jel says: your faces need more work and your inks are a bit boring.
That said, the fluidity and dynamics of your human forms are impressive. The landing woman in that second-to-last pic and the horned, undressed woman are my favourites (although there is something funky going on with the feet there).
Another top-notch sketchblog to add to the subscriptions.
04-12-2007, 03:52 PM
Armando- really good looking stuff. I echo what the others have said about the perspecitve forms, really nice! I like that sequential page in post #6 too!

Wow hardcore you have really come a long way. Love the spidey piece. You still have some areas to work on (stiffness) but wow I am really impressed by your progress. Great work:lml-:

Thanks, Manji, I'm working on it.

You just keep improving by leaps and bounds dude. Only thing I would say you need to focus on a bit more is getting rhythm in your figures but honestly that is starting to show through a bit already. Again leaps and bounds. Keep it up
09-22-2009, 10:51 AM
Repoman- thanks, man, they were fun to do.
Ratcrack- thanks. i had to redraw that guys torso a few times cause the angle kept screwing up the anatomy
Manji- thanks, appreciate it. i'll keep working on it
couldn't decide which face to go with. i got some practice in so it wasn't all bad
2 like this desaturated version more because of the textures that show up on her pants
09-22-2009, 11:36 AM
I'd go with the first face. It's more interesting than the second. The third is a bit too much IMO. All great.

still having trouble with coloring. added the grayscale.

You show a lot of potential, some rough areas here and there, but you seem to practice systematically enough to improve upon those areas.
10-16-2009, 11:44 AM
Ra Havok- thanx, man. though lately i've been wondering "why am i doing this?"
wasn't happy with the Psylocke i drew the other day, so did this one while watching some tv last night

Great sequentials, I really like them. One weird thing is that in panel three it seems like the furthest character has a floating head and no body.
Looked at your Deviat, really great stuff man.
12-17-2009, 10:06 PM
Great stuff Armando. I've commented on these over at Drunk Duck, but I really dig the action sequence on display in those last three pages you posted. The detail and also the dynamic interplay between the characters, backgrounds, and camera placement are excellent.
12-19-2009, 04:56 PM
Paladis- thanks for the kind words. that guy has the power to become invisible and phase through objects. if you have the time you should check out the webcomic.
Repoman- thanks, man. I appreciate it!

Hardcore man, where have you been? You need to post more? Those sequentials are bad ass!

09-01-2010, 09:26 AM
Ok, so now you can digital paint like a master. When you gonna teach us?
09-01-2010, 09:47 AM
I like your pages man! There's a few areas where you could improve:
P2, panel2: The big dude addressing the crowd breaking panel - that border on him is odd. Find a better way to make him overlap panel 1. It's a decent use of a panel break, but the borders kinda ruins it.
Last page: the action sequence reads as slow and is a bit confusing. It seems the protagonist is blasting the sword guy in the face. If that is to be a high speed sequence (it should be - otherwise sword guy would just punch blaster dude in the face with his left hand) then three tall thin consecutive panels would work better. The way you have it drawn, it reads as having a delay between the catching of the arm and the faceblasting. Blaster dude has no real grip on sword guy's arm so it makes me wonder what's going on - sword guy should pull free or hit blaster dude or shoulder bump him and take another swing.
Hopping on the post sequence - at least one shot of the guy actually jumping would really help sell that whole sequence. You have shots of him landing and losing his balance, but not one leaping pose.
I know this crit is all over the place, but these are the things that popped out to me in order of importance. The action sequence is the hardest to fix as it would require redrawing a good portion of that page, but the other two mends are doable. I know I'm always limited by time constraints, so I just learn from crits and use the kowledge for subsequent pages. I hope some of this helped. I'm done rambling now. :)
09-23-2010, 09:28 AM
the border bend idea came from Leinel Yu. thought it looked interesting so i thought i'd try it.
you have a point with jumping thing.
he's dislocating his shoulder on the last page.

eh thanks man.
I'm really diggin' the sci-fi story.
08-11-2011, 12:10 PM
Ditto. It looks like you leveled up man. Nice work!
08-11-2011, 12:45 PM
Wow, so much cool stuff here. Great studies, and great pages. The pages are a bit overly burdened with text, though, in my opinion. They start to look pretty cramped.
08-17-2011, 01:39 PM
Mase- thanks, man!
orphangrinder- yeah, i guess. i've been told my stories are too wordy.

I like your pages, but I don't think the rain effect works. Two things that would improve it very quickly is the use of white lines through dark areas (which would also strengthen the background atmosphere), and adding more direction to the droplets. There are a few shots of hair and fabric that show wind direction, and the rain should be influenced by that same wind. Layering the density of the droplets will also help you push the depth of the panels, right now it's almost as if it's raining in front of them and on the horizon, with little to indicate rain in the mid ground.
Here are a few examples of what I mean:
The rain aside, you seem to be off to a good start, and I'm very interested in seeing the inked results.

A character from my comic. He's basically supposed to represent a knight. But since the culture is thousands of years more advanced than us it made sense for him not to be clothed in armor. It's kind of like Kevlar or some type of synthetic cloth thousands of years more advanced. Strong without the clunkiness of metal armor.
