These are just couple of drawings I did to release a bit of stress after working on projects for about 2 whole weeks of nearly sleepless nights.

Both are not done in my usual style, but I kind of like the result of them.

I really like the heart-shaped "S" symbol on Supergirl.

Good luck on both counts. I think EJ probably draws more than 3 average PJ members smooshed together.

I'm actually shocked he started a sketch blog.

Optimus Prime's Laser Blaster is huge. I'd like to make the blaster a little more compact and portable while not in use. I applied the same principle in most of the IDW's Transformers weaponry when I have a hand in the design.

It's great to see your work with spotted shadows in it. Love that Batman sketch... so much different than what I expect to see from you.

One thing I love about your work is the dynamic poses with Spiderman and Superman.. How do you get poses like that down so well without a model?

E.J.Su
04-23-2007, 12:55 AM
Thanks guys, I like to try different techniques with my artwork rather stick with certain things. Can't get too comfortable with myself.

HitNRun: I don't know, I think it's matter of drawing a lot. Mileage counts. :)

I am in the middle of the night trying to get some work done, but I feel like getting some stuff out of my system.

I've been exploring the heavy spot black aspect of my work which it has always been lacking.

The addition of spotted blacks in your work gives your art a new presence. I like the solidity, weight and power your artwork has with the shadows added.

Hot diggity dog! Lookit all those messy detail lines! I could've swore I remember Mr. Su scoffing at me once upon a time over such things. :D

E.J.Su

That was only because you were calling Cory's stuff "Coloring Book". I never have problem with messy lines style, I have more problem with hiding anatomical errors with messy lines. ;)

Your Spider-man is really bulky too...must be the in thing right now. :o

E.J.Su

Bulky as in muscular? I don't read any Spider-man book, so I dont really know what's in these days.

Bulky as in muscular? I don't read any Spider-man book, so I dont really know what's in these days.Yeah, bulky with the muscles. He just seems too thick and muscular to be Peter Parker. And you gave him some huge hands...but then again so does Finch...not that that's a bad thing. Going stylistic with a character is always a good thing. I'm really loving your use of shadow work in these past few sketches.

wow thanks Juan. I'm hearing a lot of complaint on my stuff for not being dynamic though.

What are you talking about? That Supergirl is all kinds of dynamic! I think people use that word to freely anyway...what one person might find dynamic another will end up disagreeing with. :o

wow thanks Juan. I'm hearing a lot of complaint on my stuff for not being dynamic though.

I would disagree with those people. I think your work is dynamic. Maybe they were talking about the Transformers work you did, I mean its pretty hard to make boxes look dynamic. That Super girl looks fantastic as does Spidey.

wow thanks Juan. I'm hearing a lot of complaint on my stuff for not being dynamic though.

Tell them to look at your post #7 Wolverine, Spidey, and Superman sketches. Those look pretty damn dynamic to me. Supergirl is recent proof. Keep it up dude. Love seeing your stuff :)

I dig your Spidey, dude! He is a bit beefier than the modern versions in the comics today, but It's really nice. It reminds me more of a Romita SR, Spidey, and that's the best Spidey of all time, so I don't think I can afford you any higher praise than that, amigo!

Wow Loston, thanks man. That is big praise. :)

I would disagree with those people. I think your work is dynamic. Maybe they were talking about the Transformers work you did, I mean its pretty hard to make boxes look dynamic. That Super girl looks fantastic as does Spidey. Yeah, I get that mostly from TF fans. I am guess they just got used to Dreamwave's "in yo face in every panel Transformers".
