Thanks Juan. I didn't think it was too bad for no reference. It is coming out really dark on my CRT's I painted it on my laptop and it looked fine but the other monitors it is really dark. Oh well.

Thx Dave. In all honesty...very slow. Im trying to do it all in painter but have only really owned painter about 50 days now :) So I'm just trying to get my bearings in the program. I have laid down the base colors and some of the highlights but it's far from finished. But I will update you soon.

Yeah I kinda wished I'd had payed more attention when getting the IX with X coming out just a month after I got it. If I'd know I'd have waited. Heh I wasn't worried but good to know you haven't forgot -I take it my pic to you has arrived by now?

I actually got 9.5 just before christmas and when 10 came out started emailing and calling corel cutomer support. Here was my final arguement to them....


So I spoke with corel support. They told me if you purchased the software within 30 days they will spot you the upgrade. But as I purchased 50 days ago...too bad. This is extremely lame. If I would have known that the new version was hitting shelves so soon I would have waited. Some product development updates would be nice. The customer rep on the phone said that they usually don't even know till the software is released. She said I can purchase for upgrade price which means I would have dropped almost $700 in the just over a month for software that costs $430 new. Crappy crappy deal.

I saved for a year to get this for myself. I am truly unhappy about this. For the auto save alone I would have waited. Are you sure there is no way of me getting the upgrade other than purchasing it for another $230?

I hate to say this but at least Adobe releases beta's and gives time tables for when they think software will be released.

The told me to call in again and ask to speak with a supervisor. I did. Then offered me a tech upgrade for $49+ shipping. I took the deal and hung up. I may have gotten it for free if I kept pushing but didn't want to rock the boat too much.

As far as style I don;t have one. I just start to sketch and follow where it leads me. But im glad you like. Be in touch soon.

Tonight I experimented with Reference and Memory.

I studied this for about 10 mins.

Then I painted for 1 hour from memory with 1 quick peek at about 30 mins.

For the wolfman picture, you laid it out in photoshop and then drew it in pencil?... Interesting.

The girl in the last pic is ref'd from a deviant art pic I think and the house is just outta my head.

The Wolfman was hand drawn (too large) from ref. Then I shrunk it down printed it out and hand drawededed the bg from ref. Parts of the background was to light was too light so I scribbled over it in photoshop. Printed it and light-boxed it.

First work to do during T.A.D. After watching Mark English pastel two gorgeous figures, we had roughly 10 - 15 minutes to bust something out following his technique. Mine was an epic fail, as were most :D but then I went back after class and some food and followed my instructors critiques (yeah I got a draw over by Jon Foster) Spent another 20 mins or so on it.

I like the quick 5 minute of energy in this, but I missed the emphasis of the lesson.

I love the value version of the last one, but the colored image isn't popping as much outside of your primary light source. Adding a cool color complement might help the figure pop more overall, instead of flattening out away from your primary.

Thanks 1peace. Working on the reference photo's this week.

So the other day I discovered this little gem of a free program - Sculptris (http://pixologic.com/sculptris/)- by the makers of Z-Brush. I always wanted Z brush could never justify the expense. Now I get to screw around with 3d without having to refinance the house.

Anyhow 45 mins ago this was a just a sphere. Now it's my take on Antman. Still learning the in's and out's but having a blast.
