I finally got sometime last week to do some portrait sketching. Here are a few sketches I did. I took Marvel characters and did some redesigning. I also added a short background story to each character as well. The background story only too an hour to type up so it not movie quality. I hope you like something that came out of this. :D

Industrial Juggernaut: After 3 close call of failed assassination and 500 known plots of assassination Tony Stark was looking for a powerful bodyguard, the best money can buy. After looking at hundreds of qualified people Tony Stark still could not find a good candidate. Almost all of the most powerful Superhero’s did not trust him and he did not trust any of the most powerful super villains. Yet there was one that he knew that loved the good old dollar bill above anything else, some one he could trust with the lure of billons of dollars and beautiful women…………….. The Juggernaut.

Tribal wolverine: In an alternant universe wolverine is razed on an Indian reservation. In this universe he volunteers for the weapon X program but his mind was never erased. In this universe the Soviets rain supreme and they clamp down hard on the rest of the world. The super secret program that gives wolverine his claws and unbreakable bones is not named Weapon X but is called The American soldier.

Horseman Cyclops: Now what if Cyclops was made into a Horseman? I think it would make him more popular. The Horseman Cyclops entire suite is solar enhanced and can change the weight of his body. By how much is unknown. His new eye piece is made to contain his new found powers, some say they’ve seen a man with strange sun glasses that cleared an entire valley of forest trees. Not much else is known about this newfound horseman, but word is he’s Apocalypse big gun.

Rogue Psylocke:

Warlord Cable: This is post Apocalypse age when Apocalypse was destroyed by Magneto. All the advance technology including everything in space was made from the technology Apocalypse created. All this technology was maintained by Apocalypse will and his will alone. When Apocalypse was destroyed all but the least advanced technology went haywire. This event thrust the entire world into a new dark age… The age of “No World Order. The fall of Apocalypse and the undoing of over 100 years of technology advancement left a hug power vacuum. Countries split in half, 100 of wars broke out, a quick grab for power or what’s left of earth has begun! Powerful warlords stood upon the ash of earth and dictatorships ruled the lands. One of those powerful beings was Cable. In North America he rules over a land mass 1/3 of the size of was once was the US. He rules in one of the few orderly parts of the planet. In his region he united both mutants and Homo sapiens alike. Still foes and former friend and former allies alike always test his rule. Yet he did not come into power being a friendly leader.

The Absorbingman Man of Vegas: In hoping to turn his life around for one last time Absorbingman moved to Las Vegas. During a bet at a blackjack table he stuck it big at one of the casinos. Up to 5 millions dollars he won, but because of his past life record the casinos launched a criminal investigation. After talking with his lawyer the Absorbingman Man counter sued and became a news media magnet over night. He had 100’s of high-leveled lawyers willing to work free to get a piece of that 5 million dollars. Over 2 years pasted before the Absorbingman was able to win any money from the settlement. During this time the media watch closely in every court hearing and he became a Superstar over the years and the media called him “Man of Vegas”. After the lawyer fees and living rent was paid, the Absorbingman was given around 2 million dollar. Short story, he blown in all in one night of betting and was in 3 million dollar of debt. Now he works off his debt off doing freelance jobs as a bodyguard for famous people. The city now pays him money to take down crocket mob bosses and other super villains alike. Rumor says he may even work for some mob boss’s. You may see him on most let nights, still betting at a blackjack table or ringing the slot machines. Most people and even his long time friends and foe now know him as “The Absorbingman………….. Man of Vegas”

Looks like I had a little more time today to salvage an old piece of artwork I did in Photoshop. As you see in the first drawing, I’ve drawn all of it in Photoshop using a 3.5 x 5 inch tablet. I know, it’s hard as heck to draw on a table that small. When I got done with the drawing part I move on to the painting part, you can see it in the middle. I did the whole thing on one layer to better learn how to make fixes in my digital painting using other colors rather than making a whole bunch of layers. As you can see it did not start out looking real super. After spending 30 min’s on the colors I left it like that and forgot about it for 5 mouths. Today I got some extra time so I went looking for the “black and white Conan drawing” to fix up and I came across this one. Spent an hour and a half fixing it up, now it looks like the one on the bottom and yes I did it on one layer.

I think you need to give the guy his lips. Right now it looks like he's making a weird scary face by showing all of his teeth.

You should also look at a real skull to figure out where to place the lighting. For someone with a face that long, the cheek bones seem to not exist. with photoshop these are all pretty quick fixes.

Lastly, the ears are a little too far up for where you've placed his nose. Maybe a little shading towards the bottom of it to, to give the ear a little more shape.

Who says I hardly draw any sequential’s? Junky Monkeys that’s who :D. Well here is a 5 hour sequential. Right now I’m just making practice runs on how fast I can think up a group of 5 or less thumbnails ranging in different size’s. You know, for every story you create, you don’t just need a background story but lots of background sketches just to make clear that scenes/locations look more realistic and go well with the story line. enjoying your sketch blog. You are really developing as an artist. what a difference from your first entry to the last. well done.
I have a suggestion for ya. Try varying your line widths. example the page you did with the ninja monk. some of those panels would explode out of the page if you varied the thickness of your lines.

Thanks ntholdenuk! I’ve been focusing allot this year on clearing up my weakness, learning new ability’s and doing more perspective story driven drawings. Line variation is something I do mostly with finished artwork. The sketches I do are mostly for practice and character designs. If I do color it or add line weight that would turn a quick sketch into a loner project.

Took a 4inch by 4inch thumbnail, scanned it, inked and colored it, and it turn out a little bit better.

Inked and re-rendered this one as I do more practice with my much larger tablet. This took me about one days setting or 8 hours. This was an old commission I did for an old buddy of mine at work, I’m no long in contact with him, and I wonder would he like this one as much as the first one I made for him over 3 years ago. This would also go well for my girl friend comes Valentines Day. She has not seen much of my art work yet, so I can slip this one pass her.

Be doing allot of sketches here the there. Spending more time visualizing my artwork for about 15 min’s to 30 min’s before drawing it. Then I put down some thumbnails to see how it turned out. Also been playing around with “Corel Painter”, you can look at my funny looking chalk on concrete drawings I’ve made using painter. Last but not least is the original “Sonic the Hedgehog” and the original “Dr. Robotnik” from “Sonic the Hedgehog 1”. You can see the progresses from digital pencil to digital color, just keep scrolling!

This is one Sequential I’ve redone from an old Sequential I’ve done last summer. This is one Sequential from a project I’m working on at the moment. I’ve been studying up on some Manga and I’ve took some ideas from that and made a different style from it. As you can see, it’s about a monk that is studying to become a master of the arts!:p
