Haven't posted here in a while. Trying to get out of drawing rut, thought starting an ongoing sketchblog will help. Had to give up warcraft, was playing that more than drawing. I am working on a comic at the moment, so some of the images/ideas are for that but not all. This is slightly older material hope to scan some newer stuff soon. Hope you like:)

Wow, you really make use of every square inch of your sketchbook! I love crowded pages like that. Very nice work all around, I'm especially fond of all the various textures and line shading. Do you mind telling me what you used to draw these? Ballpoint? Some specific kind/brand? Whatever tool you're using, you've made it your bitch.

Thanks for all the kind words:)sketchbooks are so much fun when you stop worring about any kind of rules and just draw.
-pencilpunx-, i mostly use refillable ink cartridge pens, It was as close to useing a dip pen as i could get. Dip pens are the other kind i use, usually a globe nib for sketching, is very durable but stiffer than a crow quill, good for sketches. As far as brands go i used to get refillable cartridge pens pilot or scheafer at the grocery store or drug store, i could get a cheap one for like 8 bucks and a pack of scheaffer refillabale inks for a couple of bucks. I always used to break them because they are plastic and i have a heavy hand. They don't sell them in stores anymore, not around here anyway, guess people don't write much anymore. So i went to pencity.com and got a pretty nice scheafer pen for 20 bucks, aluminum with a strong nib, so it should last a while.
-thanks again for the nice words, i hope to post frequently.

Hey thanks for the kind words! I get stuck in the "I can't draw, I suck, everyone hates me" artist mode sometimes, so it's always nice to get a compliment like that. thanks:)

Yeah..I can relate to those spells of self doubt creep in when you look around and see what everyone else has to offer. Your work reminded me of conceptual stuff I did 7 years ago. Just doodling for the sake of doodling.
I bought Sienkiewicz' sketchbook back in '91 because my good friend was a massive fan. Unfortunately I traded it because it was light years ahead of its time and went over my head. Your experimental loose linework is very similar. Even David Mack's sketches in Reflections uses that similar approach except both artists leave negative space. Yours is packed in, but not wasteful.
Somehow I doubt you think your work is bad. The control of your ink suggests otherwise. I'd prefer to leave the comments made before rather than, "watch the proportions of the heads". I think your style can have that distortion because of its nature.
I find it interesting that you don't use your sketch book style or elements of it in your comic work. It'd be good to see tones built up by loose lines rather than solid blacks. Just a thought.

Yeah Sienkiewicz stuff is cool, I can never find his stuff though. Yeah it's kind of weird to get the sketchbookness to final art, I think about the two differently subconsciously. Sketchbooks are always just mad scientist, stream of conscience, catharsis for me. Thats how I get ideas and figure stuff out, just drawing for the joy of drawing. But when I sit down to do something like a comic which is more structured I tend to tense or think differently. I dunno I'm trying to inject more of my natural style into finished work while trying to make it look professional, it's tough though. Thanks for taking an interest in my work:)

Yeah thanks, I usually use pen and ink, but sometimes i'll just grab what is next to me if I get an idea and want to jot it down real quick. filling all the space up seems to be the best way I get ideas, as the room narrows get odd intersections of lines forming something else or the negative shapes start to create a new forms, kind of keeps my brain going I guess.

Thanks:) Yeah I like just pen and ink for drawings or sketchbooks, for a more finished piece i'll use pencil but usually keep it loose and vauge, the real drawing only comes out when I go to ink it, pencils are just a place holder. That's how I do it anyhow.
