View Full Version : Haunted Sketching

What's up fellow PJers. This is what I have been doing lately. I took the advice of a pro and he said to sketch and sketch A LOT. So here they are. I just drew them on standard drawing paper. For finished pieces/pages I'm going to use smooth bristol. I'm just trying to move my hand faster so my figures are less stiff. Experimenting with feathering/rendering as well. Enjoy.

Great work haunted, however their ankles don't look right. They appear to have some unnatural bulge on the back of their legs.
First pic of caped heroine her head seems flat on top. In the second pic her cape is billowing nicely in the wind but what about her hair? It's just laying there.
The Champion's hands seem too large....they appear big enough to envelope his head.
Let me reimphasize though.....Great work! I especially like pics 1-3.

Hey thanks for the feedback guys. Much appreciated and I need the advice since I'm still learning. Been busy drawing some sequentials, but during some spare time last night, I sketched this. I was bored. :D

Here's what I got so far for the Wolverine challenge. Going to work hard this weekend on it some more.

Making progress on this.

Just a bit of a crit Haunted. Watch your hair and draw some from reference. All your hair has a "spaghetti" quality to it. Need more chunks and less indiviual strains. Check this Hair Tutorial (http://www.rebekahlynn.com/free/tutorial/hair_tutorial.html) Hope it helps.

Thanks Inkdrop. Nice tutorial. It's true that I'm not very good at drawing hair, so that was useful.

Here's a work in progress. Didn't want to post it in the illustration section since I haven't decided on a background yet. Small image followed by a large image to show some detail.
08-20-2007, 06:50 PM
Oh! And I did follow one crit I got about her head, so I did increase it's size some.
08-26-2007, 05:19 PM
page one of a story I am trying. :D

When I get the background done, I'll post it in Illustration. :)

Cool Sion haunted, he's one of my favorites. ;)
08-30-2007, 08:54 PM
it great to see more dynamic poses compare to the begining.
this guy on #17 though, his arm seems a bit short around the wrist...?
you have a talent for line/black and white work

sadman2000 - Thanks man! He's probably my favorite villian from KoToR.
DefyAllLogic - Glad you like my stuff! Looking at his wrist now, I agree it's short. I tried making him a little more beefier than how he is in the game. If I hadn't inked it already, I'd go back and fix it.

Thanks you Repo Man. Glad you like it. :)
Here's what I'm currently working on. It's a giant sheet of bristol 22.5 x 28.5 inches. Work in progress and it's gonna take me a while to complete.

Here's some older undergrad work. Most of it is heavily photo referenced.
First two are prismacolor. First one is a self portrait and second was a classmate in my photography class.
The rest of them are graphite.

Two quickies. Linked for nudity. Spent about 20 minutes on each I think. First one is a hot sketch, second one... not so hot. Something missing there but hey these are just studies.
02-18-2008, 12:27 AM
Sketched while watching Bladerunner. Probably spent 15 minutes on each face I think. Not bad for me!
02-19-2008, 10:47 PM
Trying something a little different. Referenced a pic. Somethings missing here, I'm gonna keep working on it and see how this one turns out. One foot's higher than the other, I know, I gotta fix that.

Tarot Cards: Devil, Lord of Ruin and Death. Rough Pencils. Will post finished fully rendered versions next week.
05-11-2008, 02:08 AM
These are great! I particularly like the pose on this last one. Not sure why, but I dig it.
Those Tarot cards are looking pretty cool.
05-16-2008, 11:56 AM
I agree about the Tarot cards. You've really stepped it up a notch! The poses and the rendering on the clothing look very natural. Nice work.
05-19-2008, 08:32 PM
Thanks guys, making progress on them. I got an extra week to pimp these out.
05-19-2008, 10:19 PM
