The idea of the jamboree is to get everyone drawing. Once a week, the person in charge of the jamborees (at this moment me) comes up with a theme and anyone who is interested can participate. In PencilJack, since every time you post art you are subject to critiques it was decided, long before I was a member, that jamboree jigs (the official word for jamboree contributions) would not be subject to critique. They can also be done in any medium, be it classical or digital, and you can submit a jig at any time. The jamborees are moved to the Community Projects (http://www.penciljack.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=42) section of the forum once the week is up so that members can participate at any time.
When I became a member, MC Fumunda (one of our moderators) was in charge and he came up with some pretty good themes (http://www.penciljack.com/forum/showthread.php?t=55577&highlight=santa+dracula) but participation eventualy dwindled (http://www.penciljack.com/forum/showthread.php?t=59273) and he stopped hosting them. A few folks tried to take over but participation kept dwindling and they kept resigning their position as jam master.
The original jamboree suggestions thread (http://www.penciljack.com/forum/showthread.php?t=59292&highlight=jamboree) got everyone typing but it didn't really help much when it came to participating in the jamborees so when I took over I thought this (http://www.penciljack.com/forum/showthread.php?t=68106) would help. It hasn't. Participation is still very low and I understand that people are busy and that many of the artists that were around here when the jams were first introduced have moved on to professional work or have gotten busy with school or what have you but there's still plenty of newcomers who I know need the practice (you know who you are) and I don't ever see them post a jig but moving on.
So, how do you participate? Simple, get yourself registered with a site that will host your images for free like photobucket or imageshack or :::ack::: deviantart (deviantart doesn't allow direct linking so I suggest one of the former two) and keep a lookout for the weekly theme in the Break Room section of the forum. If you have a suggestion, just click on the link I've already provided for the suggestion thread and keep in mind that if your suggestion does not get used it's because your fellow PJ members didn't back you up.
