Holy shit.

Yeah, I said a bad word on a public forum. I'm sorry.

Best. Wolverine moment. Ever.

And my favorite mainstream x-men character gives me what I want. Last page = money shot.

I'll go into more discussion and details after everyone else has had a chance to get the issue, becuse I think most people are still at work or haven't read it yet.

But if you do not read the title, pick up issues 14 and 15. Read them. You will want to read the series from then on.

You seem to have anticipated my response that this does not consitute a review for Comics Analysis. The Break Room is for "wow, that's cool" talk. Please feel free to add your review without worrying if anybody has read it or not yet. Just be sure to add a spoiler warning.

Thanks,

DJ

I read it last night and I was really impressed. I love seeing the x-men taken apart so easily. Not because I want to see them get there asses handed to them, but it humanizes them. And the "weakest" link is left to come and save them. I can't wait for the kitty/emma showdown.

The only bad part of this issue is that it makes me want it every month...

I have to say, my favorite new student is the girl with the psychoarmor. Holy cow!

Not only does she have a personality I really enjoy, she's getting a lot of "screen time," and Joss is really developing her well.

I loved seeing that side of Beast.

Best Wolverine moment evar.

And this issue shows precisely why the Hellfire Club is my favorite badguy group.

And, thank you Joss, my favorite mainstream x-character is going to show how badass she can really be. the time has come.

I did enjoy the wolvie scene, but I wasn't really sold on his voice. It seemed more like he was a prim and proper British boy. I've largely ignored all of the orgins of wolverine, so if he is in fact British then you'll have to excuse me. I don't know any children that talk like that.

I think that might have been my favorite Beast moment. I love seeing him go crazy and John draws him perfectly.

I think the voice thing was just Cassandra screwing with him. Somehow I doubt those words came from him on his own power.

Yeah, I figured that too, but then she said that beast was a animal trapped inside of a man and that wolverine was a boy trapped inside of a man. So I figured that she was just releasing or making their "inner-selves" the dominant personality so it lost me...I guess I'm just over analyzing/thinking the situation.

You guys have seen the original Xmen vs Hellfire Club? The one that kickstarted the whole Dark Phoenix saga. This felt like a remake with the characters switching roles.

I like the issue...but it seemed like confused flashback for me.

I thought it was a solid issue. So far Whedon has amazed me with how well he's already caught on to writing good comics (Whedon being a Hollywood guy and all). Something about Emma just makes me feel like she's not sold on this villain stuff just yet.

Danger talking to Ord? I'm not really too excited to see Danger, but we'll see where this goes.

And I think that last page was Whedon paying homage.

It's more than the last page...it's the whole story. The White Queen basically took Jean part. Shadow Cat took Wolverine's. I believe Collossus was the one who beat down on Shaw before. They even have Mastermind's role too,the illusionist. Scott was also useless the first time around too.

I totally missed Whedon's and Cassaday's first run on the Astonishing XMen and I do regret it after reading the first 3 issues of their second run. This past issue was great.

Yeah, I felt this issue was cheapened by the reliance on the past story. I dunno - Morrison's re-writing of X-Men history worked for me, but Whedon's didn't here. I guess for me, Morrison was re-writing and enriching/adding, while Whedon is sorta depending on the emotional impact/plot/pacing of Claremont's writing to get his story to work.

I liked the obvious similarities. It's like being in on an inside joke. As far as Wolvie talking that way. That is the way that he talked in Origins. He was prim, proper and sheltered. This makes me glad that I read that piece of shit since I get it. But that's the only good part of Origins so don't go doin' somethin' stupid like buyin' it. Just spend your money on more Astonishing issues.

Great post dude. Thanks for the heads up too.

Also, Whedon is like a fan writing the X-MEN more than a professional writer. That's not a bad thing.

i like the way cassaday draws but the way he lays out his panels is so anti-dynamic. just rectangles on top of rectangles...
