England of course, they just beat Jmaica 6 - 0 today.
But really Germany will be hard to beat, the Host country always performs well, and they have won it around 4 times already

i'm really hoping the USA does well. i've been a soccer fan since i since i was little, and would love for it to actually get the respect it deserves.

Sadly, that's not going to happen for awhile. Many attempts have been made to hype the game to Americans, who fail to appreciate it, for some reason.
Now, cars going round and round on a big oval... now THAT's good entertainment...

American's don't like games where there isn't a constant score change :P I however love the game. Brazil will win, Germany maybe being my second choice. Will be fun.

Germany will be very tough at home
Brazil always rocks hard.
My favorite is Italy, because I love going to the Italian area of Toronto, pretending I'm Italian and watching some games.
Forza Italia.

I don't know about Germany. I personally wouldn't trust a coach who spends most of his time in California.
I honestly think this is England's best chance. The dark horse I think is Italy. Like in 1982, they've had a massive scandal in their FA.
I watched World Cup Stories on BBC, and the amount of times teams "react" to negative events (dictatorships, previous upsets, England losing Jimmy Greaves etc) is all too common.

The problem with Holland as it has been and ever shall be, is that they tend to be a team of individuals rather than individuals in a team.

Thats is the same for Spain as well, such raw talent but cannot play well together.
What happened in the end with Juventus? Did they get stripped of the title?

I hope England make the Semis. We're never gonna win again, but tournaments suck when your team goes out early. At least I don;t have to wake up at 7am this year to watch the games :)
Brazil's my pick because strikers win you tournaments, and they're all fit up front.

Yeah I was watching the Brazil vs New Zealand game, and the goals the scored were ridiculous!
Well it all kicks off tomorrow with Germany looking forward to it

England shoulda taken Fowler, Defoe and Bent. Then we'd totally smack some **** out the opposition. I mean Walcott? He's got the same agent as McClaren you know. Insider job I say. ¬_¬ Oh well, Peter Crouch FTW!~
mezzacaine
06-08-2006, 06:19 AM
Totally agree he has never played against a Premiership team (Walcott that is) HUGE gamble.
Fowler is so on form, and especially Defoe. Football is an old boys club and it is who you know that gets you far.
As for Crouch he is weird to watch, at least he is scoring goals but such an ungainley player to watch.

Well Sven's taken Walcott and decided it's a better idea to play Gerrad in the hole. What's the point of taking him then?
Fowler immediately gained 30% extra form just by being back in Liverpool. Apparently its the source of all his powers ¬_¬ Plus he's got a goal every other game, and consider he's been unfit for half a season, it just goes to show how prolific the dude is!
I feel really sorry for Defoe. He's played awesome all year in the top flight, and he's being sent home cos of some kid we can't even rely on.
Sky Sports News is driving me nuts with the Rooney watch. We all know when he'll play so why can't they just move on?
Ballack will not play tommorow for Germany btw.

06-08-2006, 06:50 AM
Oooooh Whats happened to Ballack? And is Ballack definately signed for Chelsea now?
Yeah the whole Rooney affair is a farce, the way it has been played out.
I feel sorry for Defoe as well it was at his finger tips, and snatched away, send Walcott home and bring Defoe back.
And Fowler is such a Legend, i don't even support Liverpool but he is such a giant in the game. I'm a Toon supporter (Glutton for punishment).
i'm really hoping the USA does well. i've been a soccer fan since i since i was little, and would love for it to actually get the respect it deserves.Yeah, that's gonna happen. Right after comics. ;)

Ballack has calf strain, and he signed for Chelsea ages ago, before Shevchenko even.
I'm a man utd fan, but even I recognise how good Fowler is. Up til a few months ago, he was still the Premierships 3rd highest ever goal scorer, and considering he's did jack all after he got injured in 2002, that's actually quite a feat, considering he got 150+ basically until just after the last world cup. Only Henry, Andy Cole and Alan Shearer have more.
Soccer? It is real FOOTBALL. I don't understand this soccer deal at all.
I hope Sweden goes as far and hopefully a bit further than the US-94 WC.
I'm also thinking Germany may do what France did and win in their home country.
I'm also a little bit wary of Japan. I think they can be easy to underestimate.
I'm not hyper about it, just about half-excited but it'll be interesting to see who brings home the trophy.
Not important side note, but I'm thinking this year is the first time since 1968 that England will beat Sweden.

They are scarily impressive at the moment. However (cue commentator cliche) it's a marathon not a sprint.
I'm impressed by Ghana! What a shocker to the Czech team! I think and hope that they go a long way!
Oh, and Japan aren't very good - but they're HOT! :p

If Japan ever get strikers, they'll be brilliant. South Korea on the other hand please me a lot.
Props to Ghana it'd be great to see them in the knockout stages.

No props to Switzerland this year? Not that they are going to go that far but they've done fairly well thus far.
England has done well also, but this year will go to Brazil.
Gotta root for the home teams!

I say the US still makes it through. We just need to beat a suprisingly good Ghana team (with two of our best players out with red cards) then have Italy win 1-0 over czech or even better tie 0-0. It could happen. Otherwise I want Ghana to go all the way!

Explain baseball.
Steroid ridden gorillas with bats make a ball travel far. :p I can't watch baseball during the regular season, but it's quite exciting during the playoffs.
As for the WC, I'm hoping South Korea makes it far again, they're very fun to watch. I'm not real sure about Germany making it all the way now that I've seen them play, their defense is lacking.
Oh no, the English ghost still haunts (un-)victorious. :D
Germany will surely beat Sweden, but I'm half-German so either way it's a win-win situation. Har.
The only reason I'd want South Korea to advance in the tournament is to see the fantastic cheersquads they've got - not a hooligan in sight and all happy faces...except at defeat. Oh, the sadness of them in Japan...
The almost best part of every match is to hear the cheersquads rants and songs - it's the best! What energy some of them have, sometimes it's even hard to hear what the commentators are saying in the loud cheering. I love it.
Best excuse for losing in this tournament so far has to be the Serbian-Montenegrian(?) coach that blamed the 0-6 loss on the weather! That was hilarious!

No joke, but they've just got so much energy and strength. That's the only way I can see Brazil getting beaten as they step it up a gear. No one's gonna beat them with tactics or technical play.
WillTurner
06-23-2006, 04:47 AM
Indeed. Ghana did awesomely well in a tough group, but from yesterday's result it looks like Brazil are back in form. One more goal and Big Ron is a World Cup record holder!
Count me in for Ghana surprising the bejeebus out of Brazil and winning. What a treat it would be to have Ghana vs Argentina (or Germany - I'm biased in this matter) in the finals! Go Ghana!

that italian guy had better have said something pretty damn ****ed up for him to have even considered doing that.
Ugga Bugga

doesn't matter what the guy said. It was pure idiocy, and something you would expect of a young kid, not a grizzled veteran. Especially in the most important of games.
Italy had a fine tournament, and deserved to win as much as any other team.

There's nothing you could say at that point, which can't be countered with:
a. Saying something back.
b. Walking away (look at the replay! He walks away before he does it!)
c. Thinking "This is not only my last world cup game, this is the end of my career. I'd better not screw this up".

See, I don't want that celebrated. It wasn't the greatest world cup ever, but you can't gain pleasure from a man's self destruction.
Besides, if he had any courage he'd have done a Glaswegian kiss and bumped Materazzi's noggin.

You get football "fans". Fan is short for fanatic and given the crazy level of support (20,000 season ticket holders for Norwich City!), I'd say it fits.
