*Edit figured id ressurect this thread and make it just a regular art sketch blog thing*

ok im trying to get my tablet control (illustrator and photoshop to be specific), and skills up. So there will be alot of sketching, and here is good as any to chart my progress i figure
so i started off this mornin
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v452/yinstro/sketchtablet-1.jpg

then later i did some photo refs of myself
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v452/yinstro/yin21.jpg

taking one of those i started messing with photoshop,
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v452/yinstro/yin2.jpg
its pretty dirty, but ehhh, using it for my myspace for now, hopefully ill see some more progress soon,
i noticed thats its easier for me with my smaller tablet, apparently larger isnt always better, but since i got more option on teh bigger one ill have to learn better control for it.

Yeah man a wacom is kinda hard to control at first but you seem to have a nice grasp on it keep truckin hommie.

BTW you gonna be at the Phille con.

yea, i may be overestimating hand control, it might be more about time tweaking, but i still want to get my skills up. I might hit the con depends on the transport situation

You know, someone suggested to me a while ago that I should put a piece of paper over my tablet. I was shocked at how different the feel is. It's much easier because it feels like you're drawing on paper. Why I didn't think of it myself, I do not know.

actually, thats something i tried when i first got one awhile back, i forgot why I stopped actually, btw somethin i was trying recently.

talkin to some dudes, they say that your not gonna get the super perfect style with just hand skills, will involve heavy tweaking and using bezier curves (illustrator, photoshop). Still i have seen some hand skill improvement, also with this one i did a tablet heavy skletch first then went back and did another layer like inks or so.
Id say the primary dif is that when you I sketch i dont really uses 1 long stroke, unless im inking it, which i rarely do, so that may be a the big difference, but practice is practice it should be useful to develop more control with lines

Nice style! I would like to see you experimenting with more sequentials though. It seems like you are doing alot of stuff that you are comfortable with. Do something you are not comfortable with!

ok been on a battle rush lately so i got some things i can show sort of that didnt make the cut maybe,

first off my ill fated battle with plog, alas im losin, decided to mess around with some colors on it for kicks after the fact, get my practice up
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v452/yinstro/ytroooo.jpg
colors were messed with in photoshop, messed around with the brush and layers couldnt decide betwwen multiply or burn, it makes it look weird but i kind of like burn for the linework

then next day itchin for some action i set another 24 hour challenge, but while that was taking some time to find an opponent, i decided to jump on a one hour battle. decided to test myself with the old rusty ass tablet. my lines are pretty weak still, especially with teh rust.
actually the first 15 minutes i started of with a dif piece than i used, it was this
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v452/yinstro/borin.jpg
but that seemed to lame and boring, and not going to come out crisp enough to look cool, so i decided to try to do the one i used in the draw off with the remaining time, i mostly want to capture the pose and feel of the girl with that one, you can check it in proving ground (its getting whooped btw , eh well its all training

now my 24 hour challenge got called in by fuscia, topic was weapon X, it made me think of some old comic by BWS i actually think it may not have been weapon X in it, but involved leady deathstrike getting admantium, and the power pack girl so it came to mind, decided to do a piece with wolv and the powerpack chick

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v452/yinstro/weap1a.jpg

i kind of liked it, but i figured it was too scrolled out, and to spaced, also, although the pose is acurate and you wouldnt see wolverines torso in this pic in the pose i had in mind, it just seemed like too much space between the legs i decided to try something more emotive, with the focus on the charachters, thats what i went with for that draw off, even though i think this had some potential with a background and color and snow and all that crap

Physicdesigns

this was for the batt;le with jared lee, i was going to draw a background of a Italian town, but time was of essence, as was laziness, so i messed with a picture in various ways for the background to get this.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v452/yinstro/lupin.jpg

i rushed a number of things here, but i had some interesting experiments with darken filter, as well some things in painter, it was actually pretty fun, oh yeah some parts were drawn on comp after the fact (due to time) im sure you can tell what parts of the line work look super fake and rushed, then again maybe not

Its good old lupin underwear and diamond thief and fujiko rocket launchered up sans lingerie

X-Men 205. I LOVE that issue. That's kinda the intro of the Reavers. Nice drawing, but the legs definitely look too spaced - like he's gonna poop at the Power Pack kid.

I'm liking the wolvie pic, but something doesnt seem right. It looks like he is taking a huge dump, besides that, you can see his waist or connections between his upper and lower body.

Still, I really like your stuff! nice work

Physicdesigns
05-05-2009, 03:27 PM
yeah, it looked wierd is one of the reasons i dumped it, but you wouldnt see his waist in the position i was going for, seems like the position i was going for conjures images of dumps, so i didnt go with that drawing for the draw off, even though i liked some elements of it.

anyhow been muckin around in painter, trying to get some inpsiration and practice off here be the results

harrowing battle down in proving grounds, heres some of the stuff you didnt see there

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v452/yinstro/amenra/droma.jpg
thats the pencils before i laid colors down

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v452/yinstro/amenra/artem.jpg
this was a stab at artemis, but the pic wasnt gonna have much goin on, so i let it slide.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v452/yinstro/amenra/arte.jpg

another stab at artemis, also just not interesting enough a scene, would have had to mess around with the back dog too, he was a little off, too fast to the inks there

Physicdesigns
05-17-2009, 01:14 AM
for my chiaroscuro pummel challenge. I actually had this one ready for the initial deadline, but i grew to dislike it, so i figured id take the extra time and try another stab, this was supposed to be luke, in theory in a dramatic scene but meh just wasnt workin

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v452/yinstro/chiaro2.jpg

oh yeah if you didnt see what i decided to go with, may as well take a journey on down to proving grounds and looksee

Ooh, I like that one a lot. You did a great job on the drapery. His hair looks like a turban though.

I like that 2nd Artemis too and the way you rendered the rocks on the submitted piece.

Physicdesigns
05-17-2009, 08:52 AM
yeah it was and interesting try, but it was missing the depth i wanted, and it wasnt going to end up illustrating the scene i had in my head. I did like elements of it, the same with the artemis, i liked her bottom half but i felt her top was too stiff, and overall the pic wasnt dramatic enough, of course the perseus one wasnt dramatic enough, but it did have a complete story goin on.
