My friends and i just had a dead-athon the other night and it got me thinking, which is truly the best? The budget increased with each film, but does that mean the film improved? How about Bruce's acting lol... okay well that's why we love Bruce, or at least why i love Bruce. That and his massive jaw.
I think I'm going to go with Evil Dead II only because I often get a bit angry with Army of Darkness and its treatment of women. I completely understand its all in fun and it does have some great one-liners... but well... parts of it peeve me off. The evil dead series isn't that great towards women period but somehow i'm able to laugh at the other two films while the piggish behavior in Army seems more heavy handed, i have a harder time with it.
Anyway, i'm just curious as to which film comes out on top around here. :)

AoD bee-yotch!!!!
I love all three movies, but I'm gonna have to go with the 2nd film. Evil Dead one was cool, but not as cool as AoD and Dead By Dawn. I think dead by dawn was better than AoD becuase. Army of Darkness is awesome, but I laugh a lot more during Evil Dead 2. hahahaha, i love those movies... i'm having a dead-athon tomorrow... actually... so that's some kreepy timing for this post, heh.
oh, and has anyone else read any of the Army of Darkness comics?

Evil Dead 2. He gets the crap kicked out of him in that movie, but always manages to get right back up, just to take more of a beating. I think that Ash may be the most abused character in cinema history.
Bruce Campbell r0x0rz my s0ckz0rz.

oh pssshaww. the second one was the best. there are some incredibly horrible and tragic moments in that movie. like when ash is alone and the rocking chair is moving yet he can see nothing in it ... and he reaches out, only to feel the ghost of his old girlfriend and the chair stops rocking. how the demon played a sad song for him and left a locket lying around just to ***k with his mind.
to me, it's the combination of tragedy and humor that puts in above the others. in army of darkness i just don't get that same sense of terror or loss from a bunch of zombies. i could kill zombies all day so long as they weren't my dead girlfriend. plus, he's surrounded by other people so he's not going crazy.. he has a metal hand.. things just rock for him at that point.

II takes the cake for me. I love the whole series dearly, but Evil Dead II is one of the most perfect B movies ever.
And you think they treat women badly in AoD? How about how the forest treated that one girl in Evil Dead?
Ahh...tree rape.

I went with Evil Dead because it's the orignal. Dead By Dawn
and Bruce Cambell Vs. Army Of Darkness are both very dear to
me, but the original is what started all the madness.

Now don't get me wrong... tree rape = bad
BUT it was part of the *laugh, yeah right* Scariness. It was suppose to show you how messed up this place was.
Um what exactly were the naked women in AOD for? Had they a purpose (other than to make men go... WOW...boobies!) i would have been ok with it. LIke i said, i' no femi-nazi about stuff , but somehow that film just bugs me the tree rape, i roll my eyes at. I don't like it, but i get it.
Ash practically ripping the chick's head off by grabbing her hair and nearly sucking all the air out of her lungs... eh... stupid. A good gone with the wind bend you backward kiss would have been better, he looks more like he's attacking her.... god i just used gone with a wind as a comparison. now THAT's a film i hate *bleh*... anyway, yeah i donno why really, just AOD just rubs me the wrong way.
Evil Dead II all the way baby! :D

I remember the scene where there's a topless girl being dragged around in chains by a couple skeletons. Of course my first reaction was, "Ooh. Boobies." After that it was more like, "Wait a tick... What exactly are those skeletons planning on doing with that poor girl? Their genitals have clearly rotted away. Obviously they're going to spend the evening frustrated."

Seriously? That was just Sam Raimi having fun by throwing EVERYTHING into that one shot. A crane shot, armies of zombies and skeletons, that huge over-the-top moment in the score, naked chicks. It's deliberately silly to the extreme.

From Testicles And Tyrants: A Man's Guide To The Visual Arts or Wow, That Guy Draws Great Boobs by Dr. Hugo Bairbottum:
"The bare female form is beauty defined. It is a gift to Man from the Heavens, and should be treated thusly.
There need be no stated purpose or necessity for the inclusion of nude women in the visual arts. Their presence alone is reason enough."

Hey, how comes Ash's hair turns white in Evil Dead 2 but its not included in Army Of Darkness? Bah!
Well, I won't start picking apart all the continuity errors from Evil Dead 2 to Army Of Darkness. I could do that all day..Sigh
Rami always left it open with the Apocalyptic ending in AOD. Has that story ever been taken up in a comic book or story elsewhere? Any fanboys know the answer to that one?

All 3 movies kick ass, but im gonna have to go with evil dead II. As matty said, it is basically the definition of a perfect B movie.

Evil Dead Two is the funniest movie ever. I laughed my ass off when his hand turns on him and smashs plates and stuff over his head.
remember the scene where his girls head bites his hand and he runs around bashing it against pretty much everything. thats one of the funniest scenes in a film Ive ever seen. Evil Dead 2 is so hillarious.

i guess i'm the minority here but definately evil dead because the other two are comedies in my mind that and i absolutly hate sam raimi body of work. the guy is just the king of schlock half-ass b movies and almost makes loyd kaufman (creator of the toxic avenger and the tromaville production comp) look like an artist. plus he's a giant douche for creating hercules, xena, jack of all trades, and that god awful cleopatra 2525. don't get me started on the spider-man movie franchise.
