I think your freinds or people in general say that just to get you mad. I think it works.

because no one likes to be less than numero uno.

I saw it the first night it came out = I beat you to it.

Does it matter? Nope. Most people could give a crap.

The ones who 'saw it on the first night' are also trying to lend credence to the opinion they're about to lay on you. Which you'll ignore anyway, if you are of the mind that you make your own opinions after you see the film for yourself.

I've only said it or heard it said about movies that seem like EVERYONE can't wait to see. To be honest, I haven't seen a movie "the night that it came out" since I was in high school and, the older I get, the more I realize that a movie you REALLY want to see is best seen on a sunday matinee. That's when the theater's usually empty.
I made the mistake of going to Spiderman on the first saturday night and I almost got in a fight. I went to see episode 3 on the first saturday night and the fanboys in the audience wouldn't shut up.
I still see those types of movies opening weekend (since I don't want any idiot spoiling it for me at the office) but I try to wait till sunday.

Because I love movies and I love waiting in line for them and I love being able to see it and know that I saw it before my friends or family.

But I'm the movie fan and generally not only am I the first one to see it, I'm the only one. So it boils down to I'm just excited to see the movie and I'll go as soon as it opens. But I don't tell people that.

Now if it's a screener months ahead of time, you can bet your sweet bippy I'll be lording that over your heads until the release date.

what is the movie any BETTER the first night?Actually, it is. The crowd is generally more responsive and in to it on the first night. The haters tend to wait a few days, I guess
I saw Star Wars 2 on the second night it was out, but it was kind of the same thing. The crowd erupted in cheers when the Lucasfilm logo glittered across the screen.

I don't like coming in a day or two after the movie's been released to talk about it and there's already seventeen pages of discussion.
That's about the only bad thing about waiting to see a movie. and that's not that bad.
