I forsee great political debates in the near future if unchecked. I will say that this whole Hot Coffee debacle has been plain stupid, and the ratings system for games is utterly useless. Its a known fact that this game wasn't for kids in the first place. Bashing peoples heads in and doing drive bys was okay, but once you have animated sex (with no visible private parts except some boobage) THEN its all evil. Its funny how destroying life is more acceptable than copulation. Parents need to just be parents instead of expecting everyone else to do it for them.

In other news their stock tanked. Time to buy it up, cause this isn't gonna stop anyone from buying GTA 10 ;)

Now, if either games were BANNED, then there's going to be problems.

What a lame ass excuse for pushing people's buttons, knowing full well they can't say anything back. And anyone who says "Blame Hillary" knows jack shit about this. They would have been slapped with an AO rating in either case. Her name attached just means that more people are going to be aware of it. Boohoo, a politician is doing what politicians do best -- gaining attention. Now what does it have to do with the game? Nothing. Its just a name.

"Lame Game for hairy palmed idgits gets taken away from them by their new parents". There ya go start from that. That set the proper tone for discussion.

GTA is fun. I no longer consider myself a gamer per se as i have about six games total(for PS2). But they are my favorite games and I play them a lot. GTA is fun because I can just run around and do whatever. I can let off steam too. One of my favorite things is to drive up my wanted level, go jump in a chopper, get chased by the police chopper and jump out in some random area. sometimes i open the chute, sometimes not.
The fact is I know this is a game. I know the crap I can do in it is wrong, illegal, and immoral and it's something I'd never do in real life. Just a disclaimer there.
The rating system won't do crap. People can still buy this game in specialty stores. The only place I know of that rigidly enforces age requirements on anything is the one place that I know pulled it from the shelves. Once again the responsibilty falls on the parents to enforce their beleifs on their children. Too bad most parents don't care enough about their responsibilties to care for and censor their childrens input to do anything about this.
If you don't want it being sold to your kids, then don't let your kids buy it. pure and simple.

Man, this is getting pretty ridiculous. The thing is, if some parents didn't pay attention to the "M" rating, what makes them think they'll pay any attention to an "Adults Only" rating?
Kids are going to be kids. If they can't buy it, they'll get it from their best friend's uncle.
I guess I'm just really getting tired of some parents outsourcing their responsibility and then lumping all the blame on a convenient scapegoat when little Billy decides to barbecue the family cat.

I've been trying to reason this out for a while... I suspect it's because our race/culture has a deep seeded loathing for itself, to the point of being suicidal. To this end, we train our kids to eliminate one another while trying to discourage procreation. Maybe I'll go back to the drawing board on that one.

I blame parents. Parents today(broad sweeping gen.) are too wrapped up in themselves and don't want to take responsibilty for the rearing of the chillen. Look, if you people with children aren't watching out for your kids the stupid government will step in. Video games and movies and music and entertainment in general has always been an easy scapegoat for government, when the government officials need a poll boost. Straw men.
If parents actually spent real time not sitting in the same house time withe little crumb snatchers they would already know what's what. But parents have always been on the ignant side. Just look at spring break. These people send their kids off to mexico thinking they'll justt be out having innocent fun but in reality it's Girls Gone Wild and Wild on.
MTV or VH1 had a show where the parents would follow a child, to some sort of vacation or pleasure trip, go in disguise and watch their precious innocent daughter or son completely act a fool. These people haven't a clue and in reality don't want to know.
Parents know if they have any knowledge of their childs actions they then have a duty to step in and try to correct it.
Best for them to be willfully ignant.
What's the lament of most parents once they find out about these games or movies or music." There oughta be a law shouldn't there?" or "they should have warning labels".
Keep in mind though if your going to blame parents for the kids buying stuff they find offensive then you also have to blame the idiots who smoke and get sick. Can't have one widdoutda udder.

Heh.
My initial thought was, snap, I gotta get ahold of a copy before I can't.
I rented the game with a gamepass at Blockbuster, and beat it, but I have to admit I kinda miss it and wish I would have picked it up to own.
I guess enjoying playing this game makes me an immoral bastard.
All I could think when this whole Hot Coffee thing started was the parents all worried about thier kids seeing this unlocked content in this game they bought for them. All of the murdering and all that was fine until this popped up and got some media attention. Then they suddenly had to backtrack and blame the industry and whatnot for corrupting the minds of their children when a week before they didn't bat an eyelash to their kids playin' it.

I actually dont see the big deal. Is it just the prinicpal that people are getting riled up over shit? no one is screaming censorship, the sex minigame is really hard to acess in a console version anyway, and the game is being taken off store shelves just untill the new m rated version arrives. Seeing as a bunch of people stand to lose a lot of money it is a big deal. Personally it's a big deal to me because of America's ****ed up moral basis. Other than that I could care less and the govt should be doing something ELSE with our tax dollars and the media should be reporting something y'know... important.

Yeah, I'm with astro. I'm just pissed because of the twisted moral bases and there being far more important things in life that people should be focusing on and trying to change. I'm happy I have my copy of the game, and I'll always keep it, but I'm not going to go out of my way to unlock animated sex scenes. Well I could be wrong on this but most of the complaints were started by strong womens groups and women such as Hilary Clinton.
So ill wager a guess its more about the objectivication of women in a hostile fashion using sex then just having intercourse itself. A kind of violent sex that seems more socialy acceptable as the norm as young kids (boys/girls) grow up with more pornograpy in there lifes due to the internet.
So in a sense that is more dangerous then the over the top violence of videogames, especially where rape is concerned.

I'm ok with ratings - its the whole bad press thing thats really hurting them. People just need to be aware of what (their) kids are into, and be able to control that to a certain degree. I was in a game store and heard this conversation (it was mom with 9 year old son):
Its the kid's birthday and he wants GTA: SA.
Mom (to employee): "Why does it have an M rating?"
Employee: "Well, you commit crimes, shoot people, carjack, do drive by shootings. There are hookers."
Mom: "Really?"
Employee: "Yeah, you can pick up hookers, and they get in the car and the car bounces, and then they get out."
Mom: "Hmm." (She puts the game back. A few minutes later she picks it up again and buys it.)
Mom: "Well its his birthday, and all his friends have it, so I don't want him to feel left out."
That's just irresponsible, if you ask me...

This is retarded. This shouldn't even make it to court, given that even as a rated "M" game (clearly marked on the COVER) it is appropriate ONLY FOR PLAYERS OVER THE AGE OF 17. She "bought it for her 14-year old grandson", therefore she is a moron and needs a slapdown.
Apparently NAMING the game "GRAND THEFT AUTO" is not clear enough. They apparently need to just rename the franchise Killing, ****ing & Stealing to protect the terminally retarded.
Why do I see such strong parallels between Rockstar and EC Comics, and why do I hear the rattling chains of the CCA? A freaking Federal Investigation?!? I don't buy that they hid this in the game with the intent of it being seen, they just neglected to remove the code from a portion of the game that was decided inappropriate by the designers. This isn't a run-around on the ESRB, it's a case of lazy coding, programmers deciding that it's quicker to just break the codeing links to the content rather than physically remove it. If they're guilty of anything, it's not thinking ahead to the tenacity of coding nerds in the Netherlands.

I think you need a modded system in order to do it. In other words, it's only available to the PC gamers and a small fraction of the console market, the largest gaming market, and only to those who have already modified their console in violation of the user agreement (and posess the know-how or persistence to install the modified code on their modified console).
If your kid just owns a console out of the box (like MOST kids), they're in no danger of seeing the material in question. A fact that, oddly enough, seems to be ignored in most news reports.
Unless I'm wrong, in which case... how DO you do it? I'm a grownup, I can stroke buttons however I please.

Millie Perkins: =
=======================
You will get Millie as a girlfriend automatically after the "Key To Her Heart"
mission in Las Venturas. Note that you do not have to wear the gimp suit from
the mission in order to date her normally, that was just necessary during that
one mission. However, it may be a good idea to wear it so that you can do her
special date.
Your main goal in dating Millie is to get her key card for an upcoming mission,
which she will give to you when you get your relationship with her high enough.
This will probably take at least 2 or 3 successful dates depending on what kind
of dates you do.
Appearance Preferences:
-----------------------
- none
Home:
-----
Millie lives in the Prickle Pine district of northern Las Venturas.
Usual Times:
------------
12:00 to 22:00
Food Date:
----------
Millie likes restaurants, and fortunately there's a restaurant not too far
southwest of her house.
Dancing Date:
-------------
You'll want to take her to the Camel's Toe dance club way down in southeast Las
Venturas.
Driving Date:
-------------
Millie likes about an average speed, and has a pretty generous range of
approval, so you shouldn't have too much trouble keeping her happy. She also
likes the area she lives at, so you can just drive her in circles around her
neighborhood area.
Special Date:
-------------
Millie's special date is definitely her easiest date, and probably her best
since you can get 10% from this date even before Millie starts inviting you in
normally. To get this date, you have to wear the gimp suit. Then when you
show up for a date, you'll just go inside and have sex instead of having to
deal with going places or doing things.
Note that with this date, you won't be able to give her any gifts or follow it
up with coffee. Also, when you finish the date you won't be wearing your gimp
suit anymore, but it will still be available from your wardrobe.
Coffee:
-------
You don't get to start having coffee after normal dates with Millie until you
get your relationship with her to about 40%.
Reward:
-------
- For dating: nothing, since you don't have to do anything to get her.
- At about 35%: After your date, Millie will call you on your cellphone and
tell you that you can go to her house to get her key card. Now you can enter
Millie's house just this once to get it.
- At 50%: You get the keys to her car, which is a pink Club.
- At 100%: You get absolutely nothing. I guess the gimp suit you got on the
mission was considered Millie's outfit gift.
So, to do it you have to go to her house at the right time wearing the gimp suit, then she gets all excited and invites you in for freaky sex that you can't really see. But it's still there.

Hm. But do you actually participate in the minigame, or do the characters just go inside, moan a lot, and then your boy comes out with a score improvement? My sympathy for Rockstar wanes a bit if this sex game is part of the regular gameplay, even as a "secret".
But not by much, because goddammit the game has always been marked the equivalent of a "R" rating (now it has an NC-17, I guess?), which in my mind cancels out ANY complaint that ANY parent or guardian should be allowed to make.
My thoughts exactly. If the game has an M rating to begin with and its still finding itself in kids hands, then only parents can be blamed. Rated M is equal to an R Rating. Also, Gamestop and EB requires a parent to buy the game, at least back when they carried it. I think its sad to see this game out of stores because now adults who want to play it won't be able to unless they go on some treasure hunt online or to a retailer who still carries it.

I just started playing this game again a few days ago, and I'm at the point where Cesar keeps calling me about the couriers leaving Los Santos. I've accepted a few times, but it's getting a bit distracting driving all the way to intercept them.
My questions is, is there a big payoff other than the money I get? If not, I'll just ignore them from now on.

I called a friend up and asked him about it after I posted and he said the same thing. He added that while they're still on the map, you can go back to your mom's place on Grove Street and you'll find a bulletproof Hummer there (or did he say fireproof?).

What it comes down to is that the majority of the world thinks video games are for kids. They kept up with the argument "If there was nudity and sex in Mario Brothers..." and I had to keep shooting them down.
I put them in their place and felt awesome afterwards.

This isn't the tobacco company here folks, every damn GTA commercial I've seen has either been on MTV, G4, Comedy Central, or Cartoon Network AFTER 8pm. Now that doesn't really seem like targetting the younger generation of gamers to me. There are no billboard ads in the streets, posters where they shouldn't be, and all the print media is in a game magazine or men's mags like Maxim, STUFF, etc. They aren't showing this crap to 7 yr old's during after school or saturday morning cartoons. Yet the people against this game always seem to fail to bring the facts up.

Well, I told them they'd better be careful what they're pushin' for, because these types of federal nosing arounds can have pretty shitty outcomes, like with comics and film in years past.
They weren't understanding (especially the comics part, 'cuz those are for kids, too!) so I put it to them plainly.
To access the hidden sexual content in the game, a child has to buy (or have it purchased for them) the PC version of the game, know where and how to download and install the special patch, and then go through a buncha bullshit to actually get to the 2 minutes of consentual non-violent sex.
But if a kid wanted to learn about "clothes off, face down, ass up", all they'd have to do is listen to their radio station any multiple times a day for 50 Cent's current single which is in heavy rotation.
All it would take is for some watchdog type that's takin' a crackdown on GTA:SA, and apply the same thoughts to the radio airwaves, and they're out of a job.
It all boils down to parent neglegence to be involved and educated enough about what they're letting their children become immersed in, and free speech in entertainment for responsible adults.

I know where you're coming from, but this isn't true. I've seen several when the game first came out. However, I live in LA and we also have strip clubs advertised on billboards, too. So go figure.

Ok, I stand corrected. I've never seen them though anywhere in or around Seattle or Detroit.

What’s even crazier is that part of the song is not even in the music video.

Yes, yes, and yes. Kudos, Fumunda.
