Hi I am new here, and firstly just wanna say hi th everyone here at Pencil Jack. I don't if this has been posted, if so i am sorry but i couldn't find it.

Now to the point. I have a Spider-Man script in which I am need of an artist. HOWEVER, I am just very worried that someone will read it and steal the idea.
I have noticed other people posting scripts up and i will try to enquire on the matter. But for those who read I am in need of some advice. Thanks :)

If you are concerned that they may steal your script, just send them a bare bones kind of synopsis of the story, and if they seem interested, send them just a few pages of the script that could possibly fit into any Spider-man script. Or get them to sign a confidentiallity agreement before sending them anything.

But some times you just have to trust people.

What Phil said.

My question is that if you have a script for an already established character for an existing comic company, then your script confidentiality is really a moot point, unless you are already employed by the company owning said property and writing for that particular book which incorporates that property.

As for stealing your 'idea' to use for a different comic, if it's a gem of an idea, I wouldn't post it. While it's true what Phil said, "sometimes you have to trust people," you simply can't trust EVERYONE, and unfortunately, this board (being online) is available for quite a many people to peruse.

You can sharpen your script writing in the Writing forum using regurgitated ideas or to test the waters for a slightly different idea, but I wouldn't post anything that you have concern for being stolen from you.

and lastly, if you need an artist for a project, there are many on these boards willing and able, and some will require some form of compensation. A project that has no chance of being 'published' by you like a spidey script won't get many to jump aboard...

Just my two copper pieces.

and welcome aboard!

That's good advice for all of us in search of an artist. Thanks :)

Agreed, you can't trust everyone. I should have stated more clearly that if any writer finds an artist they want to work with, sometimes they just have to trust that person not to do anything unethical with a script that has been sent to them (via snail-mail or e-mail). I didn't mean to suggest that a script should be posted on a message board if the writer is concerned about stealing.

Just the act of "publishing" the script on a message board, while inferring a copyright because it was "published" still opens us all up to theft. Not just writers, but artists as well.
