Is no one else reading this? It's fantastic! It touches on all sorts of DC continuity but I don't read any DC Superhero books outside of Batman and sometimes JLA and I can follow along fine. Great characterization and a fantastic mystery.
I am really enjoying the story but I cannot figure out who the killer is yet. If you're reading it, share your theories.

The rules of a written mystery dictate that the killer be introduced early on, so it would almost have to be one of the bad guys on the evil space station. But, on the other hand, it relies pretty heavily on DC continuity, so it could be anyone and that would suck and piss me off.
I vote for Captain Boomerang, though. I think he's stealing people's gear (Shadow Thief's belt, Mirror Master's teleportation shit, Dr. Light's laser gun, Hour Man's miraclo pills) and busting caps.

Uh, did you read this past week's issue, Carter? Capt. Boomerang is not a likely option anymore.

I think that the killer is actually a network of villains working together to take out the victims. They work closely with the Calculator, who fixed them up with Captain Boomerang. That's who the Calculator was talking about when he told Digger that "they won't hire you." But for some reason, they wanted Captain Boomerang out of the way, proabably because of whatever affair led to the birth of his son. So, they sent Digger to kill Jack Drake but gave him a gun with which to take out Captain Boomerang. Calculator works for the group and feeds them information on various villains to frame.
Of course I still have no idea what's in that box from the first issue.

I dunno. Calculator and Boomerang are friends. It says so explicitly in issue 1. And killing Jack drake wouldn't mean much. I think Boomerang was tracking down the killer to impress his son.

That's true, but Meltzer is a good writer and he's not going to just introduce, like, Clayface 3 in the last issue and say he did it with magic. It's a mystery that can probably be cracked just be carefully reading the issues alone.

I say its the Martian Manhunter. The green alien has been itching to whoop some ass and if he becomes a villian he would be so much cooler. Superman and the League would actually have a bad guy that they might not be able to defeat so easily. That would shake things up a bit. He knows all the superheores secret identities and stuff and their families. He can slip past the security no problem. Maybe he has a chip on his shoulder from losing his whole planet.
Oh I haven't read any of the story so far, so this may have been ruled out already. I still think it would be cool.

The problem is they did Martian Manhunter as a badguy in a JLA story this past year and he got better. It'd be pretty redundant to do it again. Also, he hasn't been featured much in the book. It's most likely that the killer is someone we were introduced to in the first two issues.

maybe firestorm faked his death and it is really him... then they will revamp him with one of our new duds we designed in the arena!
