This is a story that I am currently working on. It is a rough draft for a comic book script that I am currently writing.
Someone read my rough draft and compared the character to Captain Marvel?Shazam? ( nothing against the comic!) I don't see the resemblence but please tell me if you do.
(some of the things that I have written in the paragraph below might be changes that i might incorporate into the script)
The background on this character is I was going to make him an ex marine who has been in the police department for about three years and has just passed his sargent exam. Only one day after passing the exam, he became involved with a drug bust that went sour and one of his friends that joined the force with him died. One of the detectives that were in charge of the bust tried to blame the entire incident on Lare's ( the main character) friend which infuriates Lares and causes him to storm from the scene of the bust and walk out into the park.
History:
One day Lares Farrell , an ex marine captain , was walking through Flushing park and was walking home after a long day at work when he came across an elderly woman being mugged by what he thought was a street gang. Before he realized what he was doing , he raced towards the woman and amazingly fought off all of her attackers. Quickly he picked up the injured woman and carried her to the nearest hospital as fast as he could before the gang members could came back with more people. Once they arrived at the hospital , the orderlies rushed the old woman into the er where one of the doctors began to care for the old woman’s injuries. No sooner had the doctor dressed her injuries the elderly woman asked for the young man who had saved her to come in to see her. So the doctor sent one of the orderlies to go and get Lares and bring him in to see her. Lares was about to leave the hospital and return to his home when a young orderly came running out of the emergency room to get him and quickly told him that the elderly woman had asked to see him. So out of curiosity , he followed the orderly into the er and over to the bed where the elderly woman that he had rescued was resting.
Looking over at the orderly with a smile , the elderly woman asked him if Lares and she please have some privacy , so the orderly slowly closed the divider in between the beds and went off to preform his other duties. The old woman went on to thank Lares for saving her but asked him why he had done so when he was clearly outnumbered and risked a lot to help her. He simply said that it might sound corny but it felt like the right thing to do at the moment. She asked him to come closer so that she could give him a hug and when he did he got quite a shock! For when he did he felt as if he had just been struck by lightning , because he could feel some kind of energy coming out of the old woman and into his body! Then suddenly both of their bodies gave off a bright flash of light as both of thrown back gently.
Before Lares very eyes, the elderly woman changed into a tall attractive woman that had dark hair and was wearing a pair half black and half white robes. She quickly smiled at him and snapped her fingers and the two of them vanished into a flash of white light. She had teleported them from the emergency room of the hospital to the hospital’s roof , where a surprised Lares asked the woman what was going on. The woman revealed to him that she was actually the Greek goddess of vengeance and justice Themis , as Lares started to shake his head in disbelief.
So sensing his doubt about who she really was , she clapped her hands together and a giant ogre appeared carrying a giant twisted metal club!
Thinking that this was some elaborate joke that was being played on him by one of his old marine buddies , he stood in front of the giant ogre almost daring it to hit him. The ogre let out a loud roar as it swung it’s club down and then hitting him with a upward swing that not only knocked Lares off of the hospital roof but onto a roof that was about three blocks from where the hospital was! Slowly opening his eyes , Lares took at look at his body to see if he was hurt anywhere and couldn’t find so much as a bruise on him , to his surprise he didn’t even feel sore from landing back first onto the roof! Starting to stand himself back up to his feet , while looking at the buildings around him to see if the ogre was anywhere around him , he looked up to see that the ogre had just jumped from the hospital roof and was coming right at him! So quickly he looked around the roof to see what he could use to fight off the giant that was rushing towards him and couldn’t find anything! That was until Themis appeared next to him and told him to try using the rectangular dark grey hammer , that had a long dark blue metal handle that had a round knob at the end that had a long strap attached to it, that she was holding in her hands in front of her. He could see that a pair of scales were engraved onto both sides of the hammer as he grabbed the hammer out of her hands and hit the giant ogre so hard that he was knocked so high up into the air that it could no longer be seen!
So clapping her hands together excitedly , Themis turned to him and gave him an approving smile , as he gave her a very confused look. Curiously he asked her what this was all about , with a nod of her head and a sigh of relief , she started her explanation. She went on to tell him that a mortal named Ulric Jeager had used an ancient ritual to summon her and asked her for the power to enable him to exact revenge upon those who had murdered his family , so feeling the pain that Ulric was feeling she granted him super powers that would enable him to do so. But later on she found out that he had lied to her to gain power enough to start his own underworld syndicate!
So when the other gods found out about this , they convened a special council to decide what her punishment would be. Out raged at what Themis had done , Zeus banished her from Mount Olympus and stripped her of most of her powers until she could find a mortal who was not only worthy of the powers that she could bestow but one that would serve as her champion of justice on earth. So she also went on to explain that she had tested many would be champions but none seem worthy enough to be her champion until she met him! She also said that somehow Jeager found out about what she was up to and sent those gang members to stop her! So with a very serious look on her face she asked him if her would be her champion of justice. He glanced down at the hammer that he was holding in front of him with both hands and glanced up at her , as he could see the anxious look on her face. With a smile he accepted her offer but asked her if he could design his own costume and would he be able to keep his powers no matter what happened in the future. She said yes to both and the rest they say is history!
How Thunder got his magical shield and suit of armor
Before returning to mount Olympus , Themis visited the god of fire Hephaestus and asked him to make Captain Titan a magical shield in which he could use to fight the forces of evil. At first Hephaestus rejected her request for him to make another magical weapon which was not to be used by another god or immortal , but by a mere mortal! After a final impassioned plea by Themis for him to create this shield for him , he told her that he would do so only if the mortal could pass a series of tests made up by him and to be judged by none other than the lord of the underworld himself Hades and a crate filled with vials that contained the ointment of the gods which was capable of curing any injury suffered by either a god or a mortal. So agreeing to terms that Hephaestus had set for the creation of the shield , Themis teleported herself from his workshop and appeared before Lares Farrell and told him about Hephaestus’ terms for the creation of his shield.
Before they were about to travel to Hephaestus’ realm , Lares pulled out a pair of sketches out of his back pocket and showed them to Themis. Curious as to what he could have drawn down on these folded pieces of paper , so quickly she opened them up and took a look at them. One was a sketch of a costume that he had drawn for himself with the name the Captain written just below it and the second sketch was of a special type of shield. According to the sketch that Lares had made it could be divided into a kind of Olympic discus and frisbee like weapon , while the outer rim of the shield was a large chakram like weapon that had a razor sharp edge to it. Pleased that he had taken his role as her champion on earth seriously she promised to ask Circe, who was the sorceress daughter of the sun god Helios and the sea nymph Perse , to create his costume for him after he had passed Hephaestus’ tests. So after he changed into his old field uniform , as well as his flak jacket , some tools , and his multi task combat knife , Themis teleported him to hephaestus’s realm so that he could undergo his tests immediately.
After arriving back in Hephaestus’ realm , Themis immediately left Lares there to undergo his tests while she went off to talk to the sorceress Circe. Upon her departure , Hephaestus told Lares that he would undergo three different tests to see if he would be worth enough for the magical shield that Themis had asked him to make for Lares.
The first test was for Lares to tunnel out a old collapsed mine shaft on the edge of his realm within about twenty minutes , Hephaestus gave him a special stone that would enable him to teleport himself anywhere in the world to gather the materials that he would need for his task. Within about five minutes , Lares returned carrying three large rectangular dark green boxes. Carefully setting the boxes down about thirty feet away from the mine , he opened one of them up and pulled out a bazooka! Quickly he aimed it at the mine shaft entrance and fired at it causing a large explosion that threw dust out of the mine and up into the air all around Lares!
Feeling confident that he had passed his first test , Lares proudly walked up to the mine entrance and to his surprise not only was the mine shaft still collapsed but not it was covered by the rubble caused by the explosion of Lares’ bazooka!
Quickly looking down at his watch and seeing that he had only about fifteen minutes left to pass his first test , he quickly threw open one of the other boxes that he had brought with him and pulled out some plastic explosives. Quickly he set the explosives against the collapsed earth in the shape of a triangle and set the explosive timer to go off in about one minute! He had just barely cleared the mine when the explosives went off throwing him up into the air and away from the mine! A normal man would have died from the impact of the explosion but thanks to the powers that he had gotten from Themis , as he stood himself back up to his feet , he could see that amazingly he didn’t even have a scratch on him , however the clothes that he was wearing were torn and had some strange holes burnt into them! As fast as his feet would carry him , Lares ran to the mine enterance to see that he had cleared away the rubble that his bazooka had made but the mine was still collapsed none the less!
Hearing both Hephaestus and Hades laughing at him , Lares looked down at his watch and could see that he had only about eight minutes left to clear the mine! So quickly he opened the last green box that he had brought with him and pulled out the hammer that Themis had given him about two weeks ago. Upon seeing the hammer that Lares was holding in his hands both of the gods sat silently and watched what he was up to. Holding the hammer in his left hand , he threw it as hard as he could towards the mine and at first nothing happened. Then out of the enterance to the mine shine a bright white light that was so bright that both of Hephaestus and Hades had to use their hands to shield their eyes from the light , while Lares just stood there and put on his shades! As soon as the light faded away , his hammer flew back to his hand as he raced to the mine to see if it was finally cleared. Running through the smoke filled entrance to the mine , Lares was amazed that not only did his hammer clear the mine entrance but it had made the walls of the mine strangely round and smooth to the touch. As he pulled his hand away from the walls of the mine , he also noticed that the walls of this mine shaft had very large gold vanes running through them with strange white translucent crystals setting in the rock right beside them! Shaking his head in disbelief that this mortal could use the hammer of Themis so skillfully , Hephaestus clapped his hands and praised him for passing the first of his three tests with a hole three minutes to spare!
Hephaestus took Hades and Lares to his banquet hall and the three of them eat a very large meal that was being served to them by golden women. While they eat Hephaestus told Lares about his second test was to rescue one of the giant peacocks from a man by the name of Boris Fowler who ran a circus out of buffalo , new york. He also told Lares that this circus specialized in many eccentric animals , as well as people , and that he should be very cautious when he arrived at the circus. As the three of them finished eating their meals , Hades told Lares that one of the conditions of this test is that no harm is to come to the peacock and that once he found it he would have to use the stone that Hephaestus had given him to teleport it right back to Hephaestus’ realm. So thinking that this was going to pass this test with no problems , Lares used the stone to teleport to the circus so that he could get this test started.
Upon arriving at the circus , he could see that there were no circus tents or trailers around him but could only see a very large domed building that was surrounded by a moat that had clear blue water swirling around it like a river! Carefully he made his way towards the domed building only to see that it mysteriously had no windows or doors anywhere around it what so ever and thought to himself that this was a pretty strange because if there were no way into the dome how could anyone ever see the circus that they held inside of the building? So he waited until dark and then made his way over to the moat and could see some kind of bright rainbow colored lights shining up from the very bottom of the moat itself! So quickly he pulled the magical stone from his pocket and vanished from sight only to reappear with a complete set of scuba gear and his magical hammer! Cautiously he made his way into the water , as he slowly started to swim deeper and deeper into the depths of the moat until he spotted a round grate like vent that was bolted into the wall where he could see some air bubbles flowing out of it. So grabbing onto the bars of the grate , Lares pulled it out of the wall effortlessly and swam into the vent. Down the vent he swam until he could see that it ended at a wall that had a set of pipes that released the air bubbles into the vent and a partially rusted ladder that lead up to a hatch like door.
Turning the wheel on the hatch , Lares pushed it open and looked cautiously around him and could see that he was in a room filled with crates , pipes , and steel plates that he thought must be used as a storage room for their repair supplies. So quickly he made his way over to the door on the far side of the room and as he opened the door , he could see that he was now in some kind of dressing rooms for the clowns of the circus from the kinds of costumes that were hanging up on racks throughout the room. Thinking that he might be less conspicuous if he disguised himself as a clown , he quickly put on one of the costumes and one of the big red noses , as he then made his way out of the room through the flap like door. Once he stepped thorough the door he got a really big surprise , the entire circus was being crawling with goblin like creatures , every one of them was dress up as either a clown , high wire preformer , and one was even dressed up as a ring master with the tall top hat and long suit jacket with tails.
As he was looking around , Lares could feel the ground shake all around him. Glancing over his shoulder to see what could be causing the very ground to shake , he saw a giant man walking towards him that must have been at least fifteen feet tall walking a pair of giant silver wolves. Looking past the giant man , he could see a giant open metal gate that had large cages set up inside of them. Quickly he made his way over to the door and entered the room , as he looked around and could see that he was now standing in an large oval shaped room that had large opal cages that have golden bars on them. He could see that there was a large variety of strange and unusual creatures that were in this room , which ranged from a pair of ebony colored two headed rockweller like dogs to such legendary creatures as dragons , unicorns , and gryphons. Towards the very back of that oval shaped room , he could see a strange type of bird sitting towards the center of the oval cage.
However as he leaned in to get a closer look at the bird , a pair of large hands grabbed him from by his flak jacket and threw him up into the air , until he finally fell back down to the floor and slid to a stop just in front of a giant blue skinned creature. Lares quickly started to stand himself back up to his feet , when he saw the shadow of another creature standing in front of him. Looking up to see what it was , Lares could see that it was a lizard like creature that was about a good seven feet tall and covered with dark green scales. Thinking to himself that it might be a good idea to get the peacock and get out of there while the getting is good , he quickly grabbed a hold of the lizard like creature, threw it up into the air and into the dark blue creature that was standing behind him. Running as fast as his legs would take him , he raced to the cage that held the peacock and ripped the doors off of their hinges! Digging into one of the pockets on his flak vest , he reached in and grabbed a hold of the magical stone , as he gently wrapped one of his arms around it’s body. The dark blue and lizard like creature were just about to reach the cage when both Lares and the giant peacock disappeared into thin air!
Then suddenly he and the giant peacock appeared before Hephaestus , who was sitting down in what looked like a reclining chair that was floating in the air and was reading a magazine in his den , while Hades was playing a game of chess with one of Hephaestus’ workers. Seeing that Lares had returned with the peacock , he snapping his fingers together , the chair floated over to them as Hephaestus leaned over to get a good look at the peacock and could see that it was in good health. So clapping his hands together loudly , a large bird cage appeared out of thin air and floated over to where the peacock was sitting down along the ground. The peacock surprisingly just stood up and walked inside of the cage , as it then disappeared into a swirling cloud of golden dust! With a confident look on his face , Lares asked Hephaestus curiously what his final test would be. He and Hades laughed together as he said that it should be arriving any minute now! No sooner had Hephaestus said that to him that two strange purple lights appeared just fifteen feet away from where they were in his den. Lares’ eyes opened up wide when he saw that two very large creatures stepped out of the purple lights and they were the ones that he had just escaped from a few minutes ago, except that now they were wearing thick black armor. Hephaestus snapped his fingers once again and instantly teleported Lares and the two strange creatures into a stadium like area.
Not only was Lares glancing about the stadium like area curiously but so were the two creatures , until they looked up to see that both Hades and Hephaestus were standing on a balcony high above them. Hephaestus explained to Lares that his final test was to fight both of these creatures and win , which meant the last man standing wins! Slowly Lares turned to look behind him only to see that the large dark blue creature was pulling a large opal sword out of a holster on his back while the lizard like creature was holding a large spiked mace in it’s hands. The two creatures smiled at Lares , as they started to swing their axes at him wildly which left him jumping around trying to dodge their swings. Quickly he jumped up into the air , with all of his might, and to his surprise he had jumped about three miles above the stadium! However soon he started to fall back down to the ground and could see that both of the creatures were eagerly waiting for him with their weapons firmly gripped in their hands.
So curling himself up into a ball , Lares quickly fell down to the ground and fell down into the ground with an impact that was so powerful that it caused a ground quake that was so strong that it shook the very foundation of the stadium itself! As the dust started to settled , Hephaestus , Hades , and the two creatures could see a large smoking crater in the area that Lares had fallen back down to the ground. Curiously the two creatures walked over to the crater to see what had happened to Lares , when up from the crater he rose swinging his magical hammer up and knocking the dark blue creature high up into the air! Quickly he jumped back up into the air and when he got close enough to it , he used his hammer like a bat and knocked it back down to the ground with all of his might , which caused the creature to exploding into the ground below. Quickly Lares positioned himself in such a way that as he fell back down to the ground but instead of crashing back into the ground once again , he fell into the lizard like creature with knocked him down deep into the ground.
To Lares surprise , both of the creatures slowly crawled out of the ground and made a loud angry roar as they quickly ran towards him with their weapons held firmly in their hands. The first of the two creatures to reach him was the lizard like creature , who swung it’s spiked mace at him only to have it knocked away by Lares’ hammer! Before he could do anything else , the lizard like creature quickly spun itself around in the air and hit him in the chest which knocked him all of the way across the stadium and through the stadium’s walls! After a couple of seconds , Lares walked back through the holes that he had made in the stadium walls and into the center of the stadium once again. Before he could even brush the dust off of his clothes , the dark blue creature let out another angry roar , as it ran towards Lares like a charging bull! However instead of moving out of the creatures way , he just stood there and waited patiently and when the creature got close enough to him. With all of his might , he hit it with an uppercut that sent it flying high up into the air and caused it to drop it’s sword down upon the ground!
Jumping high up into the air after the light blue creature , Lares held onto the hammer and swung it forward , as he then suddenly was flown through the air by his magical hammer and before he knew it was flying over the creature. Holding onto the handle of his hammer with both hands , Lares held the head of his hammer out towards the creature , as a dark blue light shined out of the hammer and engulfed the creature in it’s dark blue light. Lares and the creature just hovered high up in the air , until suddenly the light shining from the hammer threw the creature down into the ground and continued to hammer it into the ground with it’s magical pulsating light! Quickly he swung his magical hammer back down towards the ground , as it then placed him gently on the ground! Cautiously he walked over to where the creature had crashed into the ground , until he saw the dark blue creature slowly making it’s way back out of the crater that is until it finally passed out just outside of the crater! Noticing that he had not seen the lizard like creature in a while , he glanced behind him and was barely in time to dodge the spiked mace that was being swung at his head! Swiftly moving behind the lizard like creature , he grabbed a hold of it’s tail and started to spin it around as fast as he could! Then he let go of the creature as it flew threw the air and crashed through the far stadium wall , it tried to get itself back up to it’s feet but only stumbled around dizzily until it too passed out in front of Lares, as an amazed Hephaestus and Hades watched from their seats high up on the stadium’s balcony!
Clapping his hands together gently , Hephaestus , Hades , and Lares appeared once again in the banquet hall , as the golden women carried trays filled with food over to their table. Hephaestus told Lares that he had indeed passed all of the tests that were given to him. Curious as to why he had to pass three tests before Hephaestus would make his shield for him , Lares politely asked Hephaestus to explain it to him. Hephaestus went on to tell him that the first of the tests , to clear the entrance to the mine shaft , was necessary because the magical metals and alloys that would be needed to create the shield could only be found in that mine. The second test was a favor for his mother Hera, who recently had one of her sacred peacocks stolen from her sacred palace by two demons and sold to the goblin king that runs that underground circus, and being the good son that he is Hephaestus sent him to get it back. The third test was simply to see how he could handle himself in combat and to punish the demons for stealing from his mother in the first place!
Just then a flash of white light appeared just beside Hephaestus and out of this light appeared Themis who was carrying a large brown box. She walked over to Lares and handed the box to him. She told him to go try it on for size , so slowly he got up from the table , as one of the golden women took him to one of the guest rooms to change. Quickly he changed into his costume and then walked back into the banquet room. Surprised that his costume had fit him so perfectly , Lares asked her how she got his size just right. Themis went on to tell him that Circe put a variety of spells on his costume and that one of those spells automatically adjusts the costume to his size once he starts to put them on! She also told him that the other spells that she had placed upon it made his costume virtually indestructible! Hephaestus asked Themis how she got Circe to make Lares’ costume for him , so she told him , she beat her in a game of chess and she agreed to make the costume for him!
Hephaestus asked both Lares and Themis if they could stay with him , so that they might aid them in the creation of the shield , both of them agreed to stay and help him. About three days later he completed work on the shield , but also presented Lares with a special suit of armor that looked very similar to an armored version of Lares’ costume. So thanking Hephaestus for making the shield and armor for them , Themis dropped Lares off at his house and then made her way back home to Mount Olympus. Upon returning to his home , Lares found a large metal box sitting in his living room. As he leaned down to take a closer look at it , he found a note that said that this package was sent to him by Hephaestus as a souvenir of Lares’ trip to his realm. Opening the box , he could see the opal blade and large spiked mace that were carried by the creatures in the stadium. Closing the lid on the metal box and carried to his attic where they have been ever since.

So when the other gods found out about this , they convened a special council to decide what her punishment would be. Out raged at what Themis had done , Zeus banished her from Mount Olympus and stripped her of most of her powers until she could find a mortal who was not only worthy of the powers that she could bestow but one that would serve as her champion of justice on earth. So she also went on to explain that she had tested many would be champions but none seem worthy enough to be her champion until she met him! She also said that somehow Jeager found out about what she was up to and sent those gang members to stop her! So with a very serious look on her face she asked him if her would be her champion of justice. He glanced down at the hammer that he was holding in front of him with both hands and glanced up at her , as he could see the anxious look on her face. With a smile he accepted her offer but asked her if he could design his own costume and would he be able to keep his powers no matter what happened in the future. She said yes to both and the rest they say is history!
How Thunder got his magical shield and suit of armor
Before returning to mount Olympus , Themis visited the god of fire Hephaestus and asked him to make Captain Titan a magical shield in which he could use to fight the forces of evil. At first Hephaestus rejected her request for him to make another magical weapon which was not to be used by another god or immortal , but by a mere mortal! After a final impassioned plea by Themis for him to create this shield for him , he told her that he would do so only if the mortal could pass a series of tests made up by him and to be judged by none other than the lord of the underworld himself Hades and a crate filled with vials that contained the ointment of the gods which was capable of curing any injury suffered by either a god or a mortal. So agreeing to terms that Hephaestus had set for the creation of the shield , Themis teleported herself from his workshop and appeared before Lares Farrell and told him about Hephaestus’ terms for the creation of his shield.
Before they were about to travel to Hephaestus’ realm , Lares pulled out a pair of sketches out of his back pocket and showed them to Themis. Curious as to what he could have drawn down on these folded pieces of paper , so quickly she opened them up and took a look at them. One was a sketch of a costume that he had drawn for himself with the name the Captain written just below it and the second sketch was of a special type of shield. According to the sketch that Lares had made it could be divided into a kind of Olympic discus and frisbee like weapon , while the outer rim of the shield was a large chakram like weapon that had a razor sharp edge to it. Pleased that he had taken his role as her champion on earth seriously she promised to ask Circe, who was the sorceress daughter of the sun god Helios and the sea nymph Perse , to create his costume for him after he had passed Hephaestus’ tests. So after he changed into his old field uniform , as well as his flak jacket , some tools , and his multi task combat knife , Themis teleported him to hephaestus’s realm so that he could undergo his tests immediately.
After arriving back in Hephaestus’ realm , Themis immediately left Lares there to undergo his tests while she went off to talk to the sorceress Circe. Upon her departure , Hephaestus told Lares that he would undergo three different tests to see if he would be worth enough for the magical shield that Themis had asked him to make for Lares.
The first test was for Lares to tunnel out a old collapsed mine shaft on the edge of his realm within about twenty minutes , Hephaestus gave him a special stone that would enable him to teleport himself anywhere in the world to gather the materials that he would need for his task. Within about five minutes , Lares returned carrying three large rectangular dark green boxes. Carefully setting the boxes down about thirty feet away from the mine , he opened one of them up and pulled out a bazooka! Quickly he aimed it at the mine shaft entrance and fired at it causing a large explosion that threw dust out of the mine and up into the air all around Lares!
Feeling confident that he had passed his first test , Lares proudly walked up to the mine entrance and to his surprise not only was the mine shaft still collapsed but not it was covered by the rubble caused by the explosion of Lares’ bazooka!
Quickly looking down at his watch and seeing that he had only about fifteen minutes left to pass his first test , he quickly threw open one of the other boxes that he had brought with him and pulled out some plastic explosives. Quickly he set the explosives against the collapsed earth in the shape of a triangle and set the explosive timer to go off in about one minute! He had just barely cleared the mine when the explosives went off throwing him up into the air and away from the mine! A normal man would have died from the impact of the explosion but thanks to the powers that he had gotten from Themis , as he stood himself back up to his feet , he could see that amazingly he didn’t even have a scratch on him , however the clothes that he was wearing were torn and had some strange holes burnt into them! As fast as his feet would carry him , Lares ran to the mine enterance to see that he had cleared away the rubble that his bazooka had made but the mine was still collapsed none the less!
Hearing both Hephaestus and Hades laughing at him , Lares looked down at his watch and could see that he had only about eight minutes left to clear the mine! So quickly he opened the last green box that he had brought with him and pulled out the hammer that Themis had given him about two weeks ago. Upon seeing the hammer that Lares was holding in his hands both of the gods sat silently and watched what he was up to. Holding the hammer in his left hand , he threw it as hard as he could towards the mine and at first nothing happened. Then out of the enterance to the mine shine a bright white light that was so bright that both of Hephaestus and Hades had to use their hands to shield their eyes from the light , while Lares just stood there and put on his shades! As soon as the light faded away , his hammer flew back to his hand as he raced to the mine to see if it was finally cleared. Running through the smoke filled entrance to the mine , Lares was amazed that not only did his hammer clear the mine entrance but it had made the walls of the mine strangely round and smooth to the touch. As he pulled his hand away from the walls of the mine , he also noticed that the walls of this mine shaft had very large gold vanes running through them with strange white translucent crystals setting in the rock right beside them! Shaking his head in disbelief that this mortal could use the hammer of Themis so skillfully , Hephaestus clapped his hands and praised him for passing the first of his three tests with a hole three minutes to spare!
Hephaestus took Hades and Lares to his banquet hall and the three of them eat a very large meal that was being served to them by golden women. While they eat Hephaestus told Lares about his second test was to rescue one of the giant peacocks from a man by the name of Boris Fowler who ran a circus out of buffalo , new york. He also told Lares that this circus specialized in many eccentric animals , as well as people , and that he should be very cautious when he arrived at the circus. As the three of them finished eating their meals , Hades told Lares that one of the conditions of this test is that no harm is to come to the peacock and that once he found it he would have to use the stone that Hephaestus had given him to teleport it right back to Hephaestus’ realm. So thinking that this was going to pass this test with no problems , Lares used the stone to teleport to the circus so that he could get this test started.
Upon arriving at the circus , he could see that there were no circus tents or trailers around him but could only see a very large domed building that was surrounded by a moat that had clear blue water swirling around it like a river! Carefully he made his way towards the domed building only to see that it mysteriously had no windows or doors anywhere around it what so ever and thought to himself that this was a pretty strange because if there were no way into the dome how could anyone ever see the circus that they held inside of the building? So he waited until dark and then made his way over to the moat and could see some kind of bright rainbow colored lights shining up from the very bottom of the moat itself! So quickly he pulled the magical stone from his pocket and vanished from sight only to reappear with a complete set of scuba gear and his magical hammer! Cautiously he made his way into the water , as he slowly started to swim deeper and deeper into the depths of the moat until he spotted a round grate like vent that was bolted into the wall where he could see some air bubbles flowing out of it. So grabbing onto the bars of the grate , Lares pulled it out of the wall effortlessly and swam into the vent. Down the vent he swam until he could see that it ended at a wall that had a set of pipes that released the air bubbles into the vent and a partially rusted ladder that lead up to a hatch like door.
Turning the wheel on the hatch , Lares pushed it open and looked cautiously around him and could see that he was in a room filled with crates , pipes , and steel plates that he thought must be used as a storage room for their repair supplies. So quickly he made his way over to the door on the far side of the room and as he opened the door , he could see that he was now in some kind of dressing rooms for the clowns of the circus from the kinds of costumes that were hanging up on racks throughout the room. Thinking that he might be less conspicuous if he disguised himself as a clown , he quickly put on one of the costumes and one of the big red noses , as he then made his way out of the room through the flap like door. Once he stepped thorough the door he got a really big surprise , the entire circus was being crawling with goblin like creatures , every one of them was dress up as either a clown , high wire preformer , and one was even dressed up as a ring master with the tall top hat and long suit jacket with tails.
As he was looking around , Lares could feel the ground shake all around him. Glancing over his shoulder to see what could be causing the very ground to shake , he saw a giant man walking towards him that must have been at least fifteen feet tall walking a pair of giant silver wolves. Looking past the giant man , he could see a giant open metal gate that had large cages set up inside of them. Quickly he made his way over to the door and entered the room , as he looked around and could see that he was now standing in an large oval shaped room that had large opal cages that have golden bars on them. He could see that there was a large variety of strange and unusual creatures that were in this room , which ranged from a pair of ebony colored two headed rockweller like dogs to such legendary creatures as dragons , unicorns , and gryphons. Towards the very back of that oval shaped room , he could see a strange type of bird sitting towards the center of the oval cage.
However as he leaned in to get a closer look at the bird , a pair of large hands grabbed him from by his flak jacket and threw him up into the air , until he finally fell back down to the floor and slid to a stop just in front of a giant blue skinned creature. Lares quickly started to stand himself back up to his feet , when he saw the shadow of another creature standing in front of him. Looking up to see what it was , Lares could see that it was a lizard like creature that was about a good seven feet tall and covered with dark green scales. Thinking to himself that it might be a good idea to get the peacock and get out of there while the getting is good , he quickly grabbed a hold of the lizard like creature, threw it up into the air and into the dark blue creature that was standing behind him. Running as fast as his legs would take him , he raced to the cage that held the peacock and ripped the doors off of their hinges! Digging into one of the pockets on his flak vest , he reached in and grabbed a hold of the magical stone , as he gently wrapped one of his arms around it’s body. The dark blue and lizard like creature were just about to reach the cage when both Lares and the giant peacock disappeared into thin air!
Then suddenly he and the giant peacock appeared before Hephaestus , who was sitting down in what looked like a reclining chair that was floating in the air and was reading a magazine in his den , while Hades was playing a game of chess with one of Hephaestus’ workers. Seeing that Lares had returned with the peacock , he snapping his fingers together , the chair floated over to them as Hephaestus leaned over to get a good look at the peacock and could see that it was in good health. So clapping his hands together loudly , a large bird cage appeared out of thin air and floated over to where the peacock was sitting down along the ground. The peacock surprisingly just stood up and walked inside of the cage , as it then disappeared into a swirling cloud of golden dust! With a confident look on his face , Lares asked Hephaestus curiously what his final test would be. He and Hades laughed together as he said that it should be arriving any minute now! No sooner had Hephaestus said that to him that two strange purple lights appeared just fifteen feet away from where they were in his den. Lares’ eyes opened up wide when he saw that two very large creatures stepped out of the purple lights and they were the ones that he had just escaped from a few minutes ago, except that now they were wearing thick black armor. Hephaestus snapped his fingers once again and instantly teleported Lares and the two strange creatures into a stadium like area.
Not only was Lares glancing about the stadium like area curiously but so were the two creatures , until they looked up to see that both Hades and Hephaestus were standing on a balcony high above them. Hephaestus explained to Lares that his final test was to fight both of these creatures and win , which meant the last man standing wins! Slowly Lares turned to look behind him only to see that the large dark blue creature was pulling a large opal sword out of a holster on his back while the lizard like creature was holding a large spiked mace in it’s hands. The two creatures smiled at Lares , as they started to swing their axes at him wildly which left him jumping around trying to dodge their swings. Quickly he jumped up into the air , with all of his might, and to his surprise he had jumped about three miles above the stadium! However soon he started to fall back down to the ground and could see that both of the creatures were eagerly waiting for him with their weapons firmly gripped in their hands.
So curling himself up into a ball , Lares quickly fell down to the ground and fell down into the ground with an impact that was so powerful that it caused a ground quake that was so strong that it shook the very foundation of the stadium itself! As the dust started to settled , Hephaestus , Hades , and the two creatures could see a large smoking crater in the area that Lares had fallen back down to the ground. Curiously the two creatures walked over to the crater to see what had happened to Lares , when up from the crater he rose swinging his magical hammer up and knocking the dark blue creature high up into the air! Quickly he jumped back up into the air and when he got close enough to it , he used his hammer like a bat and knocked it back down to the ground with all of his might , which caused the creature to exploding into the ground below. Quickly Lares positioned himself in such a way that as he fell back down to the ground but instead of crashing back into the ground once again , he fell into the lizard like creature with knocked him down deep into the ground.
To Lares surprise , both of the creatures slowly crawled out of the ground and made a loud angry roar as they quickly ran towards him with their weapons held firmly in their hands. The first of the two creatures to reach him was the lizard like creature , who swung it’s spiked mace at him only to have it knocked away by Lares’ hammer! Before he could do anything else , the lizard like creature quickly spun itself around in the air and hit him in the chest which knocked him all of the way across the stadium and through the stadium’s walls! After a couple of seconds , Lares walked back through the holes that he had made in the stadium walls and into the center of the stadium once again. Before he could even brush the dust off of his clothes , the dark blue creature let out another angry roar , as it ran towards Lares like a charging bull! However instead of moving out of the creatures way , he just stood there and waited patiently and when the creature got close enough to him. With all of his might , he hit it with an uppercut that sent it flying high up into the air and caused it to drop it’s sword down upon the ground!
Jumping high up into the air after the light blue creature , Lares held onto the hammer and swung it forward , as he then suddenly was flown through the air by his magical hammer and before he knew it was flying over the creature. Holding onto the handle of his hammer with both hands , Lares held the head of his hammer out towards the creature , as a dark blue light shined out of the hammer and engulfed the creature in it’s dark blue light. Lares and the creature just hovered high up in the air , until suddenly the light shining from the hammer threw the creature down into the ground and continued to hammer it into the ground with it’s magical pulsating light! Quickly he swung his magical hammer back down towards the ground , as it then placed him gently on the ground! Cautiously he walked over to where the creature had crashed into the ground , until he saw the dark blue creature slowly making it’s way back out of the crater that is until it finally passed out just outside of the crater! Noticing that he had not seen the lizard like creature in a while , he glanced behind him and was barely in time to dodge the spiked mace that was being swung at his head! Swiftly moving behind the lizard like creature , he grabbed a hold of it’s tail and started to spin it around as fast as he could! Then he let go of the creature as it flew threw the air and crashed through the far stadium wall , it tried to get itself back up to it’s feet but only stumbled around dizzily until it too passed out in front of Lares, as an amazed Hephaestus and Hades watched from their seats high up on the stadium’s balcony!
Clapping his hands together gently , Hephaestus , Hades , and Lares appeared once again in the banquet hall , as the golden women carried trays filled with food over to their table. Hephaestus told Lares that he had indeed passed all of the tests that were given to him. Curious as to why he had to pass three tests before Hephaestus would make his shield for him , Lares politely asked Hephaestus to explain it to him. Hephaestus went on to tell him that the first of the tests , to clear the entrance to the mine shaft , was necessary because the magical metals and alloys that would be needed to create the shield could only be found in that mine. The second test was a favor for his mother Hera, who recently had one of her sacred peacocks stolen from her sacred palace by two demons and sold to the goblin king that runs that underground circus, and being the good son that he is Hephaestus sent him to get it back. The third test was simply to see how he could handle himself in combat and to punish the demons for stealing from his mother in the first place!
Just then a flash of white light appeared just beside Hephaestus and out of this light appeared Themis who was carrying a large brown box. She walked over to Lares and handed the box to him. She told him to go try it on for size , so slowly he got up from the table , as one of the golden women took him to one of the guest rooms to change. Quickly he changed into his costume and then walked back into the banquet room. Surprised that his costume had fit him so perfectly , Lares asked her how she got his size just right. Themis went on to tell him that Circe put a variety of spells on his costume and that one of those spells automatically adjusts the costume to his size once he starts to put them on! She also told him that the other spells that she had placed upon it made his costume virtually indestructible! Hephaestus asked Themis how she got Circe to make Lares’ costume for him , so she told him , she beat her in a game of chess and she agreed to make the costume for him!
Hephaestus asked both Lares and Themis if they could stay with him , so that they might aid them in the creation of the shield , both of them agreed to stay and help him. About three days later he completed work on the shield , but also presented Lares with a special suit of armor that looked very similar to an armored version of Lares’ costume. So thanking Hephaestus for making the shield and armor for them , Themis dropped Lares off at his house and then made her way back home to Mount Olympus. Upon returning to his home , Lares found a large metal box sitting in his living room. As he leaned down to take a closer look at it , he found a note that said that this package was sent to him by Hephaestus as a souvenir of Lares’ trip to his realm. Opening the box , he could see the opal blade and large spiked mace that were carried by the creatures in the stadium. Closing the lid on the metal box and carried to his attic where they have been ever since.
